Oh my gosh. Guess what y'all... I just realized that Christmas is in NINE DAYS. Apparently I have been living in a deep state of denial. No tree up yet. No wreath on the door. No littley greenery things out and about in my house. And gift purchases? Well, needless to say I am behind on that too. So...Christmas slackers unite!!! Join me in the last minute prep, running around today like a crazy person. Or at the very least, make me feel better?? (and what prompted this morning's freakout? A boy texted me to remind me that he is coming home tomorrow...FOR CHRISTMAS. And he is my little elf that thinks all should be decorated in a fantasy wonderland of all things Christmas. And will be the sulky little elf if he arrives to a home devoid of all Christmas magic. LOL)

We only decorated today. I do have a bit of an excuse - DH was away for 10 days, over one weekend, and only got home late last Saturday, so it was only today we could get the tree. I know I could have done all the smaller decorations, but it's a lot to bring up from the cellar. And anyway, we have always decorated late, as our younger DS has his birthday on Dec 14th, so I would usually wait until after that when he was living at home.

I'm in the middle. Everything is purchased. The tree is up.
But, my house is a disaster area. I have packages everywhere needing to be wrapped. Our son and grandkids will be here for a week, so I have to figure out food. I have a small tree for the kids bedroom that isn't up yet.
The only thing DH has to do is the Christmas cards. It's 9 days away and he hasn't started them. He's freaking retired! I'm not saying a word...

We haven't decorated yet this year. I have a ton of crafty handmade things, nothing put up or the tree. We may not decorate this year (gasp). I want the house decorated but I don't want to put it up or take it down.
I am a wreath person so we do have a wreath on the door.

I don't have anything up around the house yet either. But I did get the tree yesterday. It is sitting outside until we decide when to put it up. I have to rearrange the living room in order to put it up which means taking the piano and putting it in the kitchen or hall. It is a pain so I don't have the tree up very long.
When my mom was growing up, the tree was actually one of their presents. Her parents would work Christmas Eve (they had their own business), then once the kids were in bed they would decorate the tree. The kids would see it in the morning with the presents underneath. When I was little, we used to put our tree up before Christmas but we couldn't convince my mom to put it up more than a few days before Christmas.
However I think I have the majority of gifts except for my oldest. He is hard because he flies here and back to Nova Scotia and can't take a lot of things back with him on the plane.
I have also been sick this past week and it hasn't gotten better yet so I am not really feeling up to doing much.

I’m old. In the olden days (the 70s) some people didn’t up up a tree until close to Christmas. Some people didn’t put one up until Christmas Eve. When i look at photos of trees from my childhood they look so beautifully festive with their lopsided sparse branches and large C9 bulbs and lots of tinsel. I admit I am not a fan of perfectly shaped, full, fake trees decorated with matching, themed decorations.

Not a shred of Christmas decoration in my house (unless you count the two rolls Of wrapping paper in the corner ). Dh wanted a real tree this year but our schedules haven’t allowed for going to get one. Yesterday I finally said there will be a tree in the living room today, I don’t care if it’s a damn Apple tree, a tree will be there. So this afternoon we’re getting the fake one out of the attic . Most of the shopping is done though, none of the wrapping of course.

He would spend so much time organizing the lights that by the time the ornaments went up, we lost interest.

The tree is up and decorated, inside is decorated, gifts are bought but not yet wrapped and I thought I was pretty much done.
Until I thought I had better check what exactly I had bought and what was still needed. Well I have a list as long as my arm (not quite, but it is quite a list) to 'finish' things off and I still have some food shopping as well.
A busy week coming up - having the grandies (10, 8 and 3) a couple of days and another day DH wants to go shopping as well. I know it will all be worth it but we have to get through it all first LOL

The inside is pretty much done but I still have a few more things to do in that area. Outside is about halfway done. Just started on that a few days ago.
As for the presents, I hadn't bought a single one until last night when I did some online shopping. We'll head out today to hit some 'real' stores, but not sure how long we'll last. Crowds turn me into a grinch, for reals.

Not a stitch of decorating done and I don't plan to decorate since I'll be gone for Christmas. I had unexpected company week before last and am super busy at work this time of year. Just didn't have the energy to get it done earlier and now it seems pointless because it will be time to take it down about the time I get it up! About half my gifts are bought and sitting in a box in the living room waiting to be wrapped. The other half are going to be gift cards. I need to go buy them and get them in the mail. I'm not too worried if they arrive before or after Christmas.

Since we are trying to sell the house we sort of cancelled the holidays. Almost our entire house is in storage and we have spent so much money prepping and painting and we want to keep everything pristine. No indoor cooking and no spending on presents-the new house will be our present.
I was very cool with this for a while and did not even think about buying gifts. But it was just too weird to go without anything fun to look forward to on the holidays. Yesterday I decided to buy him some small things. He too seems happy with the idea of a mini Christmas, now I need to order some things and go out and get wrapping paper.
So yes, I am truly a slacker.

I've been sick since right after Thanksgiving, yesterday was my first somewhat good day - today I feel really good. Needless to say I am behind, tree is not up shopping is not done, and wrapping is not done.
BUT - I do have a plan so I'm trying not to panic.

Well, I have most of my decorations up. Admittedly, most of them are strings of battery-powered fairy lights so it didn't take very long to drape them everywhere. I have bought a few presents from Amazon, but I still need to get all of the stocking fillers. And I haven't written a single Christmas card. Nothing is wrapped. I still haven't decided what to make for Christmas dinner. My excuse is my DD has been in hospital for the last 2.5 weeks, and I'm exhausted going to visit her every day, taking her what she needs, liaising with medical staff, etc. There are also issues with her disability benefits, and I've spent hours on the phone with the Dept for Work and Pensions. I'm trying to make an effort for my DS, but tbh, he's not much of a fan of Christmas, and probably couldn't care less. I'm just tired.

Scoot over on this bench because I am right there with you. No decorating done, not even a wreath on the door. We don't usually put up a tree because we always celebrate Christmas at my parent's house. One day though I'd like to get a really nice fake (gasp!) tree that looks real. Never thought I'd ever say that. I always preferred real trees. I'm in the middle of making my Christmas cards, mostly because I have a nasty sinus infection that has me so congested and tired that I don't feel like doing anything. My plan is to get them finished this weekend and in the mail on Monday.
I saw my ENT doctor this week and he wants to schedule me for sinus surgery after the holidays. This new infection came after a cold during Thanksgiving but is just another addition to the same sinus infection I've had for two years. This is the same ENT doctor who also had a sinus infection for two years but he's had his surgery since I last saw him. He said it wasn't bad at all.
I have completed all of my shopping, thanks to online shopping this year. Made it so much easier. I got 2 great rolls of heavy weight wrapping paper from Hallmark leaning in the corner (buy one roll, get the next 50% off) and this year I'm going to take it easy and skip the ribbon I usually use. I'm pretty sure I have a fake Christmas wreath in the garage I can pull out and stick on the door.
For all who are on this thread, take it easy and don't stress out. Enjoy the holidays. It's no fun if you stress over everything.

I got an email this morning that my last order has shipped! I need to buy a few more things in person and nothing is wrapped. I haven't done any baking because DH had the doctor this week and didn't want to eat a bunch of cookies before he went. I started a new schedule at work this week and have been exhausted in the evenings, but I always take the week off between Christmas and New Year's day, so I have no problem with stretching things out. I like to be festive and holiday-ish for as long as possible, because January is such a long, cold, dreary slog. But where is the sloth's santa suit? That is today's main issue.

I haven't even thought about Christmas yet! Well, I have, but only in the context of "I can't even think about Christmas until after the wedding." DD is getting married THIS Monday (yes, in two days), so all energy has been directed at that. I can come up for air on Tuesday, when the wave of "OMG Christmas is less than a week away" will hit.

I didn’t decorate at all. Not even a tree( though I wouldn’t have done it until this weekend anyway ) just my snowmen are out. I don’t really want to do a tree. It just st seems like too much work.
But I’m done shopping and I’ve even wrapped I’m only half a slacker

I’m right there with you. I’ve been so busy getting orders done, I still have my fall decorations on the porch. I hope to get the tree up tomorrow and put a little bit of decorations out that will stay all winter. Shopping? Forget it! I have what needs to be mailed, but that’s it.
I’m glad to know I’m in good company!

And even knowing how much I need to do, I am still sitting here in my pjs, drinking coffee pretending to be shopping on line.

We put in our new floor last Sunday, so we are decorating the tree today, then taking apart our old couch and putting it in the garage til trash day. New couch Is coming tomorrow (the rest was a special order and will be here in Feb). Social media and Pinterest are ruining Christmas. It's like there is a competition to get decorations up earlier and earlier and to handmake everything and go completely overboard. I don't worry about any of that. That is Christmas for those people, not me. I get it all done, some years later than others. It is all fine. I stopped sending Christmas cards a few years ago, some years I bake and some I don't. This is the latest we've put up our tree- it usually goes up the second weekend in December. And I'm 3/4 done with wrapping gifts, when I'm usually done by now. And it is all ok. Christmas isn't about any of that stuff (I was going quote the end of the grinch here). If people would stop pressuring themselves trying to compete with others, they would enjoy Christmas that much more.

I'm not really a slacker, it's more that I don't do too much to begin with. There's a wreath on the door, and the tree is up. But beyond that, I just have one small box of decorations. Hopefully I'll finish today. I ordered most stuff online, but haven't wrapped a thing. Once the kids come home, they can do the wrapping and finish my shopping for me (they love the mall). We'll probably bake something this week, but I'm not sure what. Christmas decorations are fairly low key around here. lisacharlotte That's how my family was, the tree went up the week of Christmas and down on the 27th. Our fake tree goes up Thanksgiving weekend, when the kids are home to carry and assemble it. It goes down after DS's birthday on Jan 9, he always begged to leave it up so we did. It's such a pain, I figure that I want it up as long as possible to get every smidgen of enjoyment out of it. whipea You really don't sound like a slacker to me, your life sounds exhausting! Good luck with the sale and the move.

I just got my decorations up yesterday. I had to spend the last week pulling every last thing out of my attic and at least half of it was Christmas stuff. I had to go through it all and throw out at least half of it so I started putting the wreaths and poinsettias up mainly so I could get them up off the floor. I cleaned and decorated my living room and front porch. I still have two bedrooms rooms full of attic stuff but my living room looks great and I have finally gotten into the mood for Christmas.
Today I am going to wrap the presents that I have bought and then I am going to have to finish shopping next week. I have never been this far behind before. I am now at the point where what doesn't get done, just isn’t going to get done and I am not going to worry about it.

My tree is up and presents are finally wrapped, but no decorations and not going to be. I stopped that a few years ago because I didn't want to have to pack it all away - the tree is bad enough! My chore for today is to get what food I can at grocery that won't spoil. I ALWAYS have to make that last minute trip on Christmas Eve day-never fails. You should put your elf to work when he gets home!

And for me, it isn't so much about competing with someone else, it is about competing with my own expectations for what should be the mostest perfectest Christmas ever. And I suppose that the head in the sand thing is because no way I can make it the way it used to be.

Hopefully I'll have time to wrap gifts somewhere in between. We were going to take our Christmas card photo today, but that's not happening. Cards might be out this year. To top it off, DH has decided that this is the perfect time to build a fence and put up a gate on the front of our property. I want the gate, but really, NOW?! Oh, and I have to four dozen cookies to make for our employee goodie bags we do every year. My sister and mom make peanut brittle and fudge. I don't know about the cookies. I really don't want to spread the flu! Might have to go to my moms and make them one evening! Ugh!

Definitely not alone! I have the tree up and decorated but that's about it. I have less than half of my shopping done, and I have just NOT been in the mood at all. Work has been insane (self employed) and been waiting on a few very large payments that have kept me extremely stressed. I planned to get the shopping mostly finished this weekend and get the lights up outside. I'll save the wrapping and cleaning and grocery shopping for evenings this week to get ready for the weekend festivities. I bailed on a party tonight becuase I had a breakfast this morning with my neighbor ladies for the big NYE party we are planning, a lunch in an hour with the girls from the family and I just have TOO much to do. Add to that that I am just tired and grinchy this year...UGH.
DH and DS came home from hunting about an hour ago and are now both napping, and all I want to do is nap too!
Good luck everybody, it will be here before we know it!
