The laundry room in my building is being renovated. We are connected to another building so I can cross over and do laundry there. I was planning to do that on Friday but then I had a cookie mishap with the cookies I needed for that night so instead of getting up early to do laundry I was baking. Then the rest of the weekend I was not in the mood to schlep any further than from my bed to my reading chair. There is a laundry service people in my building use: pick up AND delivery. On the same day. I broke down and ordered a pickup for tomorrow only to realize, much to my chagrin, that I can get used to this and it may become my permanent laundry solution. Because laundry isn't my fave and its not that much more expensive than the commercial machines in my building.
So whats your guilty (or maybe not) first world pleasure?

Having someone else do your laundry isn't necessarily a first world thing...The only time I've ever had that done was when I lived in a small country in West Africa. lol... Anyone of a certain economic level -- i.e., teachers, postal workers, secretaries, anyone with a regular salary -- had someone else doing their laundry. Win/win for everyone....those of us who had a salary could hire someone who didn't so that someone could make some money also.
In your situation I'd probably keep the service if it wasn't that much more expensive, at least till the laundry room renovation was done.

I buy several pairs of new socks every month. I absolutely do not need them every month, but I adore the feeling of slipping my feet into brand new bamboo socks. It's not an expensive habit, just a rather unnecessary one.

Everything I do is first world now. I garden even though I have money to buy food. I have chickens just to have them. My ducks and turkey are pets not food.

I order my groceries and just pick them up. Grocery store gives me huge anxiety. I love this option. I recently got a pretty good lecture from my mom and my sister about it. I stopped doing it for a couple months. I realized just how much I appreciate it and resumed. I don't care if they think it's foolish.

OP, I love that you schlepp! Or at least think about doing it. Is having 2 Roombas First World? I have pet chickens again too. 1 is a hen and lays eggs. But I spend way too much on 2 free chickens. I even have chicken diapers in case I want to bring them into the house. And a swing. I got them a little chicken swing. That's kinda First World I think.

scrappyesq if I had that service available to me here with little additional cost, I do it. In a heartbeat. No brainer, to me.

I sent my laundry out when we were in Costa Rica for two weeks. Our luggage stunk. The lady two doors down from our hotel did it in her house. It took the afternoon and maybe $40. It was wonderful!
I can't think of anything that I do, but I sure am getting some good ideas.

Our meals are prepared by a service and refrigerated. We have 2 microwaves so our meals are ready at the same time.

I can't see any drawbacks to the grocery pick up? Probably provides an extra few jobs per store!

She was like that's $300 a year you could spend on something else. And my sister was horrified I'd let someone else pick out my meat and produce.

According to my parents, my having repairmen fix my appliances is craziness. Other than that, though, I think the craziest I get is having a yard guy do the lawn and clean the gutters and my Amazon Prime addiction.

Owning pets, feeding them gluten-free food, taking them to get washed and groomed once a month.

A recent study on money and happiness said what made people the happiest was spending money on things that make their life easier. DH likes to grocery shop, but needs help, so I go. I'd much rather order and pick up.

I pay to have my yard work done, because I hate doing it.
I order many things from Amazon because it's easy.
I order Jimmy John's because it's easier than leaving my office.

The only one here that does pick up so far is WalMart which is free, but we are getting a Publix near by next year so waiting to see what they offer!

Owning pets, feeding them gluten-free food, taking them to get washed and groomed once a month. I think my pets have a better standard of living, higher quality food, and better health care than millions of people in the world. I don't feel guilt over it though. Why shouldn't they have the best life I can give them?

Why shouldn't they have the best life I can give them? I agree! That is why I put this down as the most first world thing that I do. My pets live and eat better than millions of others in the world. My dog was having scratching issues so we put him on a gluten-free diet. Seemed to help. The cat also went gluten-free just because. LOL!

Does calling and texting family members in the house with you (rather than going to talk to them directly) count as first world? Because I do that ALL the time 😋.

scrappyesq after watching that Seinfeld episode I could never use a service like that. Do you remember Jerry and Frazier went to a cleaner together and put their clothes to be water washed into separate bags, each only having a couple items. Then Jerry asked if their clothes would be washed in the same load, he was very worried about this and said he wasn't comfortable with that, didn't want hairs mixing. lol The cleaner promised it wouldn't. Jerry's bag later came with something of Frazier's in it. lol

And how about the cost of impulse purchases that you no longer have when someone else does the shopping?

Crowded stores ra.mp up my anxiety and I get so angry. I don't care what other people think of me. I'm taking care of my well being.

I'd be like, "That $300 is less than the cost of TWO visits to my therapist, so, yeah, OBVIOUSLY I'm paying someone else to do my shopping so I don't have to blow it at the doctor's office." The most first world thing I think I do is spend real money on fake money for the slot machines on my smart phone. But I am so much more relaxed when I am waiting in lines everywhere if I can play the slot machines, so it's worth it. (I just buy google play cards. No one worry.)

I pay a fortune to have a gardener, because I hate gardening, but like the garden to look tidy. I spend a ridiculous amount of money planting up containers. I do those myself.

I participate in Craft swaps for things I don't really need so I have things to make and people to send them to. It can get expensive because not only do you have to pay for the supplies, but the postage as well. But, I love doing it. I still makes oodles of stuff that need to find homes, but I don't care. I'll just keep on making.
