We are still working on DD11's room - almost everything has been taken out of the room -We still need to move one bookcase and one plastic drawer unit (and contents). I have probably 5 maybe 6 big black bags for donations and a white bag for trash FULL. Plus we're going to be getting rid of her bed (a HUGE loft bed/trundle with builtin desk and dresser and cabinet). It's been quite the job and she STILL has way too much stuff but I anticipate getting rid of a few more things when we re-set it up - I've told her anything that goes back INTO the room has to have a home and be put IN that home. I personally have NO idea where she is going to store all her stuffies - she has an awful lot and they were stored in the cabinet in the bed (full-length/half width of the twin bed) but the new-to-her bed is a captains bed and doesn't have that space. Recently, when my daughter and her family moved, the girls were given a net like thing that is attached to the wall, and they were told they can keep as many stuffed things that will fit in this. It's up off the floor--towards the ceiling, and it did hold quite a few, but they did have to part with some! it's kind of like this: www.amazon.com/SEGMART-Stuffed-Hammock-Animals-Organizer/dp/B0757LLCFK/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1529704208&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=net+to+hold+stuffed+animals+on+wall&psc=1

@donnie - Thank you - I've sent the link to DH -my only concern would be whether it would stay attached to the wall - we're in a mobile home and our walls suck.

DD18 got rid of two boxes worth of books from her room. I've gotten rid of about the same from the living room. DH let go of 6 window screens and 8 frame backpacks from the shed - yay!
Plan is to disassemble the loft bed today but we still need to figure out where to put it - shed for now

Well, today I was in the kitchen putting away things from the dishwasher, and dh came in and asked if I was purging again! I said "no, but at least I was able to get the cupboard door closed, did that count?" He laughed. He's had a problem with that cupboard--it's the "tupperware" cupboard, and it has a lazy susan thing in there. Well, Tupperware and those kind of things arent really the right shapes for a lazy suzan, so sometimes the things "catch" on the top of the cupboard and knock a bunch of stuff off--hence the cupboard won't close!! But it's been "organized" now, and until he helps with putting away the dishes from the dishwasher (which he does all the time) it will close!!

I'm still working on my garage sale pile for the scrapbook crop. This past week I pulled more stuff from my eBay pile, as well as a few more things from my sewing room. There are still 2 shelves of fabric I haven't gone through yet. I decided that I didn't need two rolling sewing machine bags, so one is was added to the pile. I'm also going to try to sell a vintage Singer 401A machine that was my mom's. It's something she bought long after I left home so there is no sentimental attachment. As it is, I have my older Bernina, a newer Bernina with embroidery module, as well as two Singer Featherweights. That's more than enough!
I've been sorting and pricing everything for a couple of days now. Still haven't started on the boxes of fabric yet. My goal is to have everything priced by Friday, July 6. The crop isn't until the 12th. Can't wait to have this huge pile of stuff out of my house!

I need to clear stuff out of my bedroom/scrapbook room.
I'm at the point where I feel like I'm drowning in it because there is just so much that doesn't belong there.
I have a bunch of ebay stuff that needs to go. I need to photograph and list.
I need to decide what to do with my collection of physical books. I don't want to get rid of them, but need to find a good nightstand with built in bookshelf. What I'm using now just isn't working.
I need to go through paperwork files and shred. This is an ongoing battle because I have so many years past to deal with.
I have acrylic stamps that I don't use, haven't used in years. So why is it hard to purge them? Because my brain argues that they take so little room. And what if I regret getting rid of them? Insanity.
And not totally on track with this thread, but I need to add more color to my room. I still love the light green walls. My bedding is light gray patterned. I think i.e. Going to add pops of orange. I love orange.

Pulled my closet apart this morning. Tossed several shirts that I don't like anymore. Tossed two pairs of shoes that were so beat, I just have no idea why I kept them. Pulled anything that wasn't clothes or my bed linens out. Now I can actually use my closet as a place to hold clothes. What a new concept.

we finally disassembled the loft bed yesterday and put it (temporarily) in the shed.
So today DD11 and I are putting her room back together. Everything has a home (yay). The only stuff that isn't back in the room are her costume/dressup clothes (I need to buy a different tote for them but there's a spot in the closet ear-marked for it) and her stuffed animals - I ordered a bean bag chair (empty - no beans) and it'll arrive tomorrow and we'll stuff it with stuffed animals. I don't think they'll all fit but we'll tackle that tomorrow. DD11 filled another paper box with donations.
DD18 is still working on her room - but every day she tackles another shelf or box or two.
We're going to need to take several trips to Goodwill to drop off donations we have so many...not the worst problem to have.

I was in a ruthless mood yesterday.
I tossed a bunch of papers, and little things that I thought I would give, but hadn't.
I'm finding it easier to look at things and ask myself, "Why the heck am I keeping this?!"
It's morbid, but I'm starting to think in terms of, "I don't want my family to have to deal with this when I'm dead."
I'm also interested in putting together a capsule wardrobe. Probably next year, since I need to wait until the kids are in school so I can try clothes on.

DD11 sorted through her dress-up/costumes this morning and put the keepers in a tote in her closet. She managed to fill a box with her discards and threw away several items also (that weren't in good enough shape to donate). I'm really proud of her - she has always struggled to let go of stuff and she's done an awesome job going through her room this summer. Just stuffed animals to go - she weeded out a couple of black bags worth earlier but I'm hoping some more will leave today when she has to find homes for them all.

I took a large bag of toys over to my grandson on Sunday. He left it here when he was visiting. He said he'd play with the stuff when he came over to visit. He's been here several times since then, and hasn't played with the stuff! So, now my room is cleaner, and he seemed pleased to have the stuff back! Silly boy. I told him he could bring anything over when he came to visit!

I'm also interested in putting together a capsule wardrobe. what is that? It's when you have a limited number of pieces of clothing that all go together and mix and match.

and the bean bag chair arrived - it's BIG (I got the 48" version) and DD11 has gone through her stuffed animals. She found a few to donate but the rest all fit in the bag with a little space to spare. She LOVES it.

I'm in on this. I lost my dad a month ago and since he lived with me I have a lot to declutter. Since I have to figure out what to do with his stuff (selling what we can for funeral expenses/donating the rest). I've decided to slowly go through the rest of the house. Since we are putting new flooring in the kitchen/dining room. I'll be starting there with emptying, cleaning then sorting the kitchen cabinets, freezers and pantry. That should keep me busy for a couple months.

Lovebug2867 - I'm so sorry for the loss of your father. It's hard to have to deal with their belongings afterwards. Good luck with it. Be sure and join in here with your progress and successes. I find this group to be very helpful with motivation. Last weekend was the crop and my garage sale table there. After I started setting up on my 8' table, I realized I should have gotten 2 tables. I had that much stuff! I did well, but didn't sell out. One of the things I took, a vintage Singer 401A sewing machine, sold at the very end. The lady in charge of the janitorial team had been eyeing it the whole weekend and ended up with it via someone who purchased it for her. Because I had so much fabric left, as well as several patterns and many bags of ribbons/trim/sewing notions, I threw those in with the machine. Told DH that I don't speak Spanish, she didn't speak English, but we both spoke Fabric/Sewing! She was thrilled with everything, I was happy it all found a home where it would be loved and used. My SUV was completely full on the way there. I left several things for donation and fit everything else into two plastic bins. Once I got home, more things went into my donation bags here. All that I have left is one bin of stuff that I will list on eBay. Nice to have all that gone from the house! This week I sent another 5 bags with my housekeeper for her use or donation. Mostly kitchen items, several new items from my gift drawer (cleaned it out and kept very little), Christmas decorations and a few clothing items. I also gave her a rolling sewing machine tote. When purging the sewing room I realized I didn't need two of them since I'm not lugging them overseas any longer. This was the smaller of the two and will be perfect for a vintage Singer I gave her a couple of years ago. With it and the other Singer gone, I have more room under the counter in my sewing room. Next up on the declutter/purge list are old photos. Lots of work to do there, but the time is right since we are having daily heat advisories and I'm staying indoors. Anyone else using the hot summer as a chance to declutter?

I filed and shredded papers the other day - cleaned a lot of bulk out of the filing cabinet. So my den is in decent shape, although I still have things in the closet I could go through and possibly purge.
The craft room/guest bedroom is next - and that's the biggest mess area in the house.

Every Saturday I go over to my moms house to help her sort and purge all the nooks and crannies of her house. She's prepping to sell it (soon or one of us is going to be dead), We go one closet/area at a time putting things into donate/sell/keep/I don't care that you don't want any of it distant relative, I'm shipping it to you boxes. Today we did my grandmother's trunk. In it were more photos (there are hundreds to go through, we're about half way done) and every freaking condolence letter she got when my grandfather died. in 1979. We had to open each one as some people put copies of his obituary or local stories written about him in the envelope. He lived an interesting life, and the articles might interest my cousins. everything else went into recycling. It's been almost every Saturday for 2 months and we haven't even gotten to the basement yet. oy!

She's not a hoarder, but she does fill every available closet, cupboard, and storage area of their home. My sister and niece helped her clean her huge pantry. She had FOUR blenders. She purged 2 - one avocado green and one harvest gold!

She's not a hoarder, but she does fill every available closet, cupboard, and storage area of their home. Thanks, but as an only child it's all on me one way or another. She's physically at the point where if we get a bad couple of days in the winter she could be trapped in the house for a week or more waiting for the snow to melt or us to be able to get over there to help get her out. If we get ice, forget it. I was hoping she'd get it on the market sooner rather than later but she's just really nervous and moving slowly. Mom isn't a hoarder either, but the house I grew up in (that they lived in for almost 30 years) had zero storage. I listened to her complain for years. When they moved into this house it has ALL the storage, which promptly got filled. She's totally willing to get rid of it, but so much of it is stuff she inherited (like the photos and condolence cards) by being the only one that stayed in town while everyone else moved away for various reasons. Add to that my dad died, then 2 years later my grandmother and she just set things aside in order to get through the moment. Now has become the time when we get to pull it all out and make the call to pitch or keep. I'm dreading the basement, but if I don't do this now it'll come into my house and I don't want that. I already told DD to just burn our house down when the time comes, just be sure your brother isn't inside lol.

I've purged the package of M&M Caramels! They went to a hungry stomach that is too fat. Does that count? This coming week, although it won't be a purge, I AM going to clean off the cup shelves. It's really dusty--and I'll run the cups through the dishwasher. And the rest of the shelves in the wall unit will be dusted too. They are pretty nasty.
