I cleaned out my dresser drawers. I got rid of anything I didn't love. I don't wear things I don't love, so they were just taking up space. After I bagged up the clothes, I immediately drove straight to Goodwill before I could change my mind about any of it.
I have a bad habit of buying things I don't love just because they are on sale. I'm trying to break that habit because I have a house full of crap that was a good deal but I don't love.

I've cleaned out one junk drawer, organized an accumulation of scrapbook kits that were in a few different spots and started going through some clutter in the living room. It's not much but it's baby steps during a busy week is something I'll be happy with. Tomorrow, I plan to tackle the pile of shoes and magazines/books that are beside the bed. It's something I'll see each morning and that will be motivating to me. flanz That is a great idea! I hope that it works well for you! Thanks! I'm excited to make progress!

You're not alone with this issue. I do the same thing. I really have a hard time passing up a good deal that I like and I end up with something I just didn't need and have only worn or used a couple times. I need to work on breaking this habit too. I’m in. My goal is one box per week. I’ve already started with my towels and extra bedding. I have way more than one person will use. please consider donating extra bedding and tiwels to an animal shelter.

The bottom cabinets are going to be a problem. My knee has been giving me issues since we hit the deer in November. The whatever Dr injected a steroid into it to get rid of the inflammation. So, I am hestitant about being on my knees to clean out the lowers. I have knee problems and can't kneel any longer - I enlist help with those lower cabinets - someone (usually a kid) to pull everything out and wipe it down - I go through it and either put it back or tell them where to put it back. It takes longer and requires cooperation (which isn't always forthcoming) but...

I just tackled my bathroom closet. Large size grocery bag of crap gone!!! Everything is in baskets. Like DH's cologne, my hair stuff, his body washes. Etc. Been wanting to do this since Nov. Apparently I'm on a two month procrastination window.

When he ends up going for his run, I'll ask the boy for his assistance. The change in location of a few things has been interesting this morning. I moved my coffee mug. LOL!

I just cleared off the top of my dresser. It's been a catch all area for far too long. I went through all of my jewelry and got rid of all the old things I haven't worn in years. I have a big nice looking make up case that was basically useless in my bathroom. I cleaned it up and it's now holding jewelry in a way that makes sense. I threw out a bunch of stuff and I relocated many other things. I also found a $40 gift certificate to a local salon, so I see a pedicure in my future. This was an area that had been bothering me, so I feel good that it was taken care of.

Wow you guys are doing great. I have to say I agree with the no long term storage units. My FIL has two of them and has had them for 5 years now and I will have them forever. I so wish he would start going through the stuff as DH said they are completely full to the ceiling with stuff and of course we will be the ones that have to deal with it eventually. I can't imagine paying 200-300 a month for them and knowing it is mostly stuff that should just be tossed. Most of it is stuff that never should have moved back to our state to begin with I haven't purged as much as I would have liked but DH will be going back to work and DS will be going back to school on Tuesday so I hope to start plugging away then. We have done most of the big purging so its just odds and ends but those can add up. I really need to work in my office/scraproom. I purged a ton of paper and yarn this year but I think I need to continue working in here. I am also hooping to purge a bunch of stamps as I have several sets I haven't used in years and don't see myself using any time soon. I also purged a lot this last year (really old stampin up) and now need to work on my clear stamps. I swear stuff accumulates faster than I can purge - I have turned away so much stuff from my MIL to thank goodness. Stopping it at the door before it enters seems to be the easiest way to prevent too much stuff.

Then I can take a picture with my phone so I can check it from grocery store or any time when I need/want.

I cleaned out my closet; got rid of about a dozen things and put about six items aside - if I don't wear them this month they are going too. I also cleaned out my bathroom cabinets - found some pain pills that were prescribed for my son when he had his wisdom teeth removed in 2003 . I am putting myself on a self-imposed ban on buying hair products until I use what I have - I have way too many of these!

Reading this thread is good motivation.
A few weeks ago I got my husband to actually go through some dresser drawers and get rid of T-shirts and old socks. He'd already been pitching the worn out underwear because I got him new, but this was a major step.
I did some purging in the master closet but I know there are more things I need to donate or toss - because when I get them out to wear I end up saying 'no' for some reason and changing clothes; I don't think I'm going to change my thinking about why I didn't wear it. Taste changes. Just need to start putting them in a bag so I can get them out of the closet.
Today I paid bills and filed papers and got the Christmas wrapping stuff put away. My office looks better when you walk in, although the closet and desk drawers need a good going through. The paperwork is organized, but I can think of some files that could totally be pitched instead of taking up space.
I also got rid of some food stuff from Christmas entertaining, candy that I know we won't eat, for example. The kitchen counter looks better.
What I really need to do is to try to get through a drawer or something in the evenings. Just about every storage area in the house needs a good cleanup. They were all organized and looking good but have become cluttered as things get added and old things don't get tossed.

I'm working on deep-cleaning my utility room/pantry today.
So far I've gone through the two pantry shelves - taken everything off, tossed three bags worth of stuff (okay that includes one bag of flour - most of a 25lb bag of bread flour that I haven't touched in several years), wiped down the shelves, put everything back organised...and decided that it'll be a LONG time before I need to buy baking chips again (I have chocolate chips, andes chips, pumpkin spice chips, cinnamon chips, Christmas morsels...too many - but they are all in ONE place now).
floor is swept - I did the freezer a couple of weeks ago so not going to tackle again.
I still need to deal with the cleaning shelf and the shelf over the washer/dryer...

and the cleaning shelf is DONE - I combined all the little baggies of catnip into the big plastic jar of catnip, got rid of the instructions to the previous steam cleaner, put the picnic basket into the donation bin, tossed the stray socks...

I did a better job on my closet, esp. with pants, skirts and sweaters.

utility room is DONE - cleaned off the shelf above the washer/dryer - threw some stuff out including the old dryer venting (why were we saving it?) DH asked me to keep the picnic basket so I've taken it out of donation ... if we don't use it this year, I'll revisit it next January. put my laundry away and took the time to go through my dresser drawers - tossed all the knickers that I had bought replacements for but hadn't actually tossed, tossed the camisole that irritates me everytime i wear it and the bra that is falling apart. Pulled out the belts I've never worn to donate as well as the nightgown I got for Christmas 3 years ago, loved but it didn't fit across my shoulders And tossed my favourite pair of capris which should have been tossed a year ago but were so comfy I kept wearing them despite the increasing number of holes worn through.

I'm starting slow but I left a bag of items for my cleaning people last week. It included: a few candles that I didn't love the scent of a couple purses that I've held onto for years. I tried to use them again and really paid attention to what issues I was having. Since those issues were inherit to the purse (not the right configuration for me), out it went. a couple of shirts my DS had outgrown and a few more odds and ends.
If I can do this for each week they visit, I may make some de-cluttering headway.

One of my friends helped me move stuff out to the garage in 2011 when my sister moved in and then helped me again as I was going through stuff for my move last year. I was feeling discouraged and she told me she saw a big difference between how I was in 2011 vs. 2017. I am so much more willing to let go of stuff now. I have definitely lugged boxes around that should have been tossed. I'm not going to do that again. On the plus side, I never used a storage unit except for a few months between moves.

I had lunch today with my friend that has the FOUR storage units!! Yes, it's 4. I couldn't remember if it was 3 or 4, so I asked her. She says she's "purging" and trying to get her house ready to put on the market. (She's been saying this for 3 years now). I feel so sorry for her!! But, it made me want to come home and start getting rid of more stuff!! Wish me luck!

My husband and I made a huge dent in the kitchen cabinets yesterday. All that is left is under the sink, which I can do sitting on my tush, and the cabinet that the canned cat food is kept in. At least the inside of the cabinets are looking good.
DH made the remark about how much room was in the back of one of the cabinets. LOL!
The donations are in the back of my SUV. And, a total of 3 large kitchen bags went out.
I had plans to work on the kitchen today, too. Unfortunately, I am exhausted and in pain. Everything hurts.
Thinking I might go through the desk and empty out the 2017 papers and gather what we need for tax purposes in one place.

Unfortunately the whole computer/scrap room is on me. I can't attribute it to him and it's the craft stuff that has the room cluttered. He will go in and pull the lawnmower booklet out of the file cabinet, but anything else he needs, he sends me to get it. He gets very upset that there are things on the floor and not everything has a place and gives me the silent treatment every now & again. At least the rest of the house is normally uncluttered. I live alone, so the whole house is on me. The first time I bought a house, I added 700 square feet to my living space. I had always told myself that once I had enough room, I'd be fine! I'll never forget the moment about five years later when I realized it wasn't the space. It was me. But I'm finally ready to do things differently. Stuff isn't making me happy.

I was on a roll over the weekend. Have about 7 garbage bags of donation items in the back of my car plus I did lots of giveaways on our Buy Nothing group. I really like giving things to people who I know will use it.

When I came home from work my husband had straightened up the garage, and gotten extra boxes broken down for recycling. There's more room in the garage and things are on the shelves where they need to be or in the basement. So much better; it had gotten cluttered over the last few weeks.
Seeing spaces clean and organized is a good motivator!
