This is almost a PSA
One week ago today, I had a massive heart attack, and as with most women, dismissed my minor symptoms.
I was quietly hand quilting, midafternoon, felt a chest pain, and hot flash. It was not debillitating in any way. I ignored it for 6 hours, and called a friend, ( a retired cardiac nurse) and she was over in five minutes, and immediately called an ambulence at 10 pm. After a Heart catherization, I was told that I was within 30 minutes of death, and that I needed a quadruple bypass.
I tell this story because I am a no risk patient. Perfect blood pressure, perfect blood sugar, cholesterol is perfect. No maintenance medications. I walk 5 miles daily, and do yoga six days a week, my weight and height are proportionate. I am 64 years old, but have not needed any medical intervention except for a case of shingles within the past 10 years. BUT i skipped a physical last year, and had i had the physical last year, might have found the blockages.
So I have spent this past week hospitalized, letting my heart rest and having every test imaginable, and chafing at my limits. Tuesday I will have a quad bypass, which my surgeon just told me could take 6 hours. So no matter how healthy you think you are, and appear to be, don't delay any medical check.

I will add to your PSA. My husband is a cath lab tech and tells this story often. He always advises people to call an ambulance just as you did. So many people try to drive themselves or have a family member drive them. Do NOT do this.
The point of taking the ambulance is that they can assess your medical needs and call the cath lab team and have them on the way to the hospital. You are delaying precious time when you do not take an ambulance.
He has also seen people drive themselves and then have a massive cardiac event and die while either driving or in the parking lot of the hospital.
So...I am very thankful that you took the ambulance.
February is almost upon us and is the official month for heart health education for women. A woman's heart attack symptoms are very different from a man's.

How frightening for you. I've been through a heart attack as the loved one when my husband had his 2 years ago so I'm aware of what the medical intervention is like. He was fortunate and didn't have to have a bypass, only a stent, though. Sending up prayers for you and your medical team for your surgery on Tuesday. Hope to see you in recovery and back here soon.

Praying for your recovery. How scary! A few years ago my 50yo friend had a massive heart. Her symptoms were ignored for a week+ because they felt more flu-like vs a crushing chest pain. Her symptoms began as intermittent intense, double over stomach pains that would pass after a few minutes or so. The day of her heart attack she was at lunch with a friend. She felt the pain, only far worse. She was coherent enough to say "take me to ER". We're so thankful that she's still with us!

Wow how scary! Thank goodness you called your friend and then she in turn called the ambulance. I remember the same thing happened to another Pea, although I can't remember now who it was.
I know some very fit and (otherwise) healthy people who have had heart attacks or have required triple or quadruple bypasses after getting check ups. Scary stuff, and it just goes to show how important check ups are.

Praying for your full recovery. It's amazing what the surgeons can do these days! My father died of a massive heart attack while he was in the hospital for pneumonia. He was only 43 years old. WAY before stents and heart by-passes were thought of! Things have really changed for the better!!
