It wouldn't surprise me if Michaels starts making a recollection take on the pl cards. That seems to be their motto. It seems like in the beginning they had some name brand scrapbooking stuff and then it was phased out into almost all recollection. I think you're right on the mark.

I would TOTALLY BUY a square cornered kit of Currently. I actually just relocated my hoard of PL branded round cornered products to one place. I had previously kept them in 2 spots. 1 on top of my Kallax and the other in a cubby tucked away under my scrappy desk. I finally got a 2 step ladder for dirt cheap (walked right past it at WinCo because who would think you'd find a ladder at a grocery store...my husband was the one who pointed it out...the ones I had looked at that had the higher weight limit were in the $40+ range and this one was $13.37) after looking periodically for years and now I can organize the hard to reach stuff! Yay! I have 20 core kits, 6 or 7 mini kits and at least 10 value kits (they are not currently in my line of sight). I sure do hope that my kids have some fun creative projects to do in school in the next 16 years so I can put a dent in some of it. Sheesh! exactly my thought. if her cards/kits had been square cornered years ago, i think it would have helped her business a lot. i'd buy every single liz tamanaha PL kit that ever has or will come out IF there were square corners...which she has finally switched to. she asked for input for what customers want on her IG story about michael's. i posted this about liz and square corners after listening. but is it too little, too late?

I agree that Michaels goes with the trends. My local M's has one huge aisle now of lettering supplies - pens, papers, etc. They even sell Rhodia paper pads now, which is one of the papers that lot of lettering people love. And all the Happy Planner stuff they carry now! Meanwhile, PL has one small section off to the side at my local M's. Her stuff is just not selling as well.

amayalylac, I am apparently even younger than you, and while I like my llamas and unicorns in moderation, I would never call Michaels trendy! Maybe it's just the Michaels on the east coast where I live that suck, but insofar as scrapbooking, their product is all old and picked over, their stickers were 5 years out of date 5 years ago, and even their planner aisle feels cheap and kind of tacky to me. The Target dollar spot is trendy by comparison, hehe. Recollections comes off SO generic - I know you can pick through to find gems, but on the whole, meh. I just don't get a trendy vibe going in there. MAYBE if I'm looking at the non-scrapbook stuff, the wood/tin/industrial-farmhouse-DIY stuff, but even that peaked a few years ago.
FWIW, the west coast Michaels were way better than the east coast, so maybe that is it.

I get the feeling that Becky really doesn’t care about PL anymore. She’s done about all she could with it and now she’s on to other things. You know; overpriced notebooks, expensive wrapping paper, frumpy dresses, stalking.

It probably wasn't selling well because there is never anything new to buy! Those of us who do Project Life have probably already purchased the kits that we want. It seems like at this point it's only catering to "new" people and not the core scrapbookers who regularly spend on product.

YouTube keeps suggesting lately that I might want to watch a video about BH's baskets of super extra special notebooks and how she uses them... You know you can tell youtube you're not interested in specific videos? Directly under the video on the right hand side are three vertical dots. Click on them and select "not interested". It should stop it from coming back up in your recommended list again. ETA: you need to hover over the video title to see the dots.

Overall, I've been happy with Project Life products. I do agree the core kits were really big. It did not bother me that the corners were rounded and I was happy with the weight of the cards. It is sad they did not listen sooner to what people wanted. I think I have about 5 core kits along with some Simple Stories. I have enjoyed the ease of shuffling through a bunch of cards and mixing and matching. It's too bad it is ending.

It's her brother's handwriting? I missed that when this one came out. That seems weird and like something that would make me want it less. I know the writing has to be someone's, but I was thinking it was someone on the design team. I wouldn't want to think of her brother every time I pulled out one of her notebooks. What a random thing to tell people.

This notebook thing. Is she drinking, you know that Kool-Aid? OMG! IT IS A NOTEBOOK!!!! Yes, we can see that Becky. I can also see the pile of five notebooks on my desk that are better quality than yours. Girl, I have a Dollar Tree notebook that is nicer quality than that your shilling. Shame on you. That looks like a school notebook. Stop the con game.
This notebook thing is rubbing me the wrong way, lol. I am a journal snob. Journal's are a big love. I collect them. I am in Becky's little shilling market category here. I would never purchase a journal/notebook like that. You can see the way she has it standing up the paper is flimsy and the cover is starting to bend in the top corner.

Why oh why is Becky's brother's writing handwritten messages of love in her notebook (oh excuse me, I meant "journal"). So freaking weird. Isn't she (and her brother) too dang old to have her brother sneaking peeks into her notebooks? She's long past high school, isn't she? Ewwwww.

She has handwriting options via the Project Life app, one option is her brother’s who was an architect. The brother in question died and that’s why his writing is special to her.

Why on earth is she promoting a notebook? I'm surprised she hasn't jumped on the planner bandwagon like so many other scrapbooking companies. I think that would serve her business quite well.

I agree, she should have done a planner years ago. Even Stampin' Up! has a planner and they're usually a bit slow to the trends. I have to say I'm super impressed with this revolutionary new idea that Becky came up with - multiple papers bound together in one place? If she can show me how to use such a thing, sign me up! Currently I just have these loose pieces of paper that just fly all over the place! .../s

I never got into PL. it’s not my thing. I don’t have that many photos that I need to scrapbook That's the exact reason why I scrap with divided sheet protectors. I don't do the photo a day thing, but my life is extremely boring and it will never change. So I scrap things that have happened throughout the year. Things like a new restaurant, my son sleeping in weird positions, or a week full of appointments that is out of the norm. I can't imagine taking the time to scrap random stuff like that on a full page.

I shop at Michaels once a week (usually) and have to say that they are good with a few trends... Instamax cameras, journals, etc, but they are horrible keeping up with papers. Some of their papers, stickers, and flowers have been in the store for at least 10 years. Stores are in it for the money to survive, so my guess is her product wasn't selling like it used to. I have so many PL cards (616 in one box?) that I really don't need new cards.

Michaels stopped being a go to place for scrapbooking supplies a LONG time ago. Other companies like Stampin Up and Close to my Heart have drastically reduced their scrapbook offerings. Kinda sad, but scrapbooking as a hobby is on a decline. Overheard discussion between employees at HL this morning ...they are reducing their scrapbook inventory also. I got 7 albums for $5 each. Regularly $29.

Walmart has shrunk scrap stuff too and replaced with planner junk (truly, the quality stinks). So for at least a year, or until the next store reset, scrapbooking is dead. I can remember last year hobby lobby was at least 6 aisles.

Why on earth is she promoting a notebook? I'm surprised she hasn't jumped on the planner bandwagon like so many other scrapbooking companies. I think that would serve her business quite well. I think there was a vaguely plannerish product offering using the small PL binders before planning became the big thing, but it wasn't good. Yeah, planners actually would fit in with the PL brand at least as well as, if not better than, notebooks. I know a few years ago I was looking for something that could be a planner + a kind of PL memory keeping thing, but nothing was available that met my needs. And I remember so many people were coming up with their own ways to plan out their PL spreads and to note down what happened during the week so they could keep up... if the timing had been right and she'd had the right product... But I don't think her product development team could be said to have their fingers on the pulse of what's trending... And/or they only do stuff that BH herself is into using. (Also, I have her brother's handwriting as a font. I like architect writing. It was available as a CK font download on her site at one point.)

joblackford is correct, there was a planner-ish kit for 6x8 around about the time she went into big box. There was a recipe version and one other if I recall correctly. The whole notebook thing is very much her though. She shared awhile back about how she used plain notebooks in something bujo-like. I am not for sure, but she strikes me as someone who would use their phone for appointments and calendar based planning. So to me it really is about making a product she really uses and likes (like stonewrap) that she has probably gotten a large number of customers/followers/etc on board with. The whole planner trend seems way too laborious and over the top for her brand, which has really tried to stay true to simplifying scrapbooking. While there seems to be an ever growing market for planners, it doesn't fit her or her brand and I do think she is genuine in that way of not pushing a product she doesn't use/love/etc. Just my two cents worth. And I did notice today on IG that they released a new physical core kit with square corners. It still looks to have a bazillion cards and I would assume of the same quality as before. But it appears they are still putting new PL in the pipeline. Perhaps they realized that they rolled out way too many kits way too fast and overwhelmed people when they joined AC.
