She did address the issue of planners and how people thought she should get into them and I believe she said it is not her thing and if she isn’t passionate about something she doesn’t do it. Not her words verbatim but as close as I can remember.

I'm surprised she hasn't jumped on the planner bandwagon like so many other scrapbooking companies. I think that would serve her business quite well. [ I’m surprised she hasn’t jumped on planners too. She used to be a huge Franklin Planner fan and she steals takes inspiration from Covey’s 7 Habits and passes off as her own ideas often without giving credit all.the.time. In fact, she did have a go at a partnership of sorts with Franklin Covey planners and PL a few years back now that I remember. But, I think planners would be a better fit than wrapping paper and ugly dresses. ETA: They still have some PL stock at FranklinCovey, but many are limited qty and marked down. mfp.fcorgp.com/mstore/buy/Project-Life---Becky-Higgins/cat2510002/

I agree that Michaels goes with the trends. My local M's has one huge aisle now of lettering supplies - pens, papers, etc. They even sell Rhodia paper pads now, which is one of the papers that lot of lettering people love. And all the Happy Planner stuff they carry now! Meanwhile, PL has one small section off to the side at my local M's. Her stuff is just not selling as well. Stickers must always been in trend because my M's has had the same big ass aisle dedicated to stickers for a decade. They might even still have the pizza and macaroni 12x12 papers!

I am so sad to all of you who do not have a trendy Michaels. You would think Michael's would be consistent for their nationwide stores. It makes me wonder if they have test market stores. I noticed big cities like LA have gorgeous Michael's. Of course LA has that big Michael's warehouse store too in LA. It has a different name that I can't recall at the moment.I live in a college town in the Mid-South and I have a trendy Michael's. Crossing fingers that Michael's starts getting their act together and updating their stores. I would scream if I had to look at stickers that are ten years old. I would think I was in Hobby Lobby, lol. On to Becky. I respect her for not doing planners. One of my peeves in this industry are the women who get into a trend and no nothing about it but shill it anyway. I have known Becky to always love documenting and journaling. She was hand lettering when it had it's first phase of popularity. Am I surprised she is doing journals? No. Do I like her journals? No. I think the quality is not worth the price tag. Becky has always limited herself to one community. She has trouble getting out of that mindset. Then she tries to market to a different community and doesn't understand when she doesn't get the same reception. I am a journaler. I know the journaling community is very different from the scrapbook community, even though there are a bunch of us that do both. Journaler's tend to be more about writing, literature, bookworms, stationery addicts. Scrapbookers tend to be about photography, memory keeping, genealogy and papercrafting art. Of course there are a lot of us who merge those two hobbies. When I think of Becky I think of scrapbooking. I do think she journals. I don't think she JOURNALS. If that made any sense. I am so tired. Long night and then I watched the opening of the Olympics when they repeated it at midnight. Heidi Swapp is excellent at marketing to different paper craft communities. A lot of people in the planner community think Heidi is it. I mentioned one time that Heidi was a beautiful scrapbooker too. They hardly could believe she was a scrapbooker. They didn't think it was possible, lol. Their marketing mindset is Heidi-Planners. I picked up two journals last night. I was thinking of Becky and her journal marketing mindset. Most journalers pick up journals because of the style, the cover, the paper, the weight of the paper. It is hardly by a stars name. Then it has to be a big star. Like the other day a friend had Kate Spade journals. I am just geeking out "OMG! You have Kate Spade journals! You are so lucky!" I don't think most journalers would say "OMG you have a Becky Higgins journal." I think most journalers would be like "Who?" Becky has always seemed sweet. I think she can't get out of her head. That makes her look out of touch, insufferable and arrogant. I don't think she is any of those things. I think she has serious tunnel vision. I think somebody needs to tell her NO!

Overheard discussion between employees at HL this morning ...they are reducing their scrapbook inventory also. I got 7 albums for $5 each. Regularly $29. My hL has shrunk it’s scrapbook aisles down to paper, stickers, and albums, 2 1/2 aisles total. Walmart has shrunk scrap stuff too and replaced with planner junk (truly, the quality stinks). So for at least a year, or until the next store reset, scrapbooking is dead. I can remember last year hobby lobby was at least 6 aisles. So sad to see Hobby Lobby's scrapbook section shrinking. I was talking to am employee of Hobby Lobby who has that section. She said she had 174 pages of markdowns to do for the scrapbooking section. They are losing two aisles of scrapbooking, so 4 full sides of scrapbooking items will be gone from the store. When I asked what they were putting in, she said party supplies. You can get party supplies anywhere! I wish Hobby Lobby had kept the scrapbook section as it was. Sad to see all the Spellbinders clearanced out and gone, and only a few Sizzix dies left. 90 percent of the rubber stamps are marked down now too.

I think our Michaels stores (solidly in the Midwest) have a serious identity crisis. They want to be trendy and they try... but it is like a middle aged lady trying to wear the same trend as her teenage daughter. I went to my store this week to buy some fake succulents for a terrarium. They turned two aisles worth of seasonal into a succulent wonderland with any and everything you could imagine. We have aisle upon aisle of planner focused papercrafting, we have a decor section full of galvanized bins, mass produced "hand-painted" signs, and knock offs of Anthroplogie looking home goods/decor. But we also have aisles of cheap acrylic yarn (sure knitting has made a comeback but not with that crap), a whole department of unfinished wood stuff for crafts, and cheap looking beads/jewelry supplies (is that still all the rage? I don't know). I appreciate that the a large chunk of the store is still full of basic arts and crafts supplies that I can count on finding, but a lot of the rest I could personally do without.

Same here. This thread made me go to Michael's yesterday. It was as you describe. It did look picked up and neater than usual. They are definitely trying to be the place to "instagram" your home. Lots of wall decor, "tablescape" items, etc. The PL stuff had already been picked over and they had less than 20 items left.

Lots of wall decor, "tablescape" items, etc. The PL stuff had already been picked over and they had less than 20 items left. Mine is like this too. A real mixed bag. Not trendy enough for some and too trendy for others. I think it's what sells, though. I think a lot of people come in for that nasty acrylic yarn - maybe people just learning to knit? A lot of jewelry supplies that I think they must sell to young people. (I think there's a lot of stuff that moms buy kids who want to try out crafts). And they still have tons of scrapbooking stickers but they never have the types of things I'm looking for. They had a giant display of coloring books the last time I went it, quite pretty at first glance until I realized that the entire featured display was religious coloring books. It was a huge mid-aisle display and just kind of weird. The seasonal crap has taken over the front third of the store. It's the same at my Joann's (+ fabric) except they needed a renovation a decade ago. Michaels is a bright clean modern wonderland in comparison to my Joann's. They're a bit better since they got the AC stuff in but not much. Just sad, really. I'm still coming to terms with the idea that I need to give up and shop 100% online. They're just not selling what I want to buy.

http://instagr.am/p/Be8hHhLg8sH It’s.....a......notebook. Jeebus it’s just a freaking notebook. You would think she reinvented the wheel the way she carries about these stupid things. It's a notebook but she missed the trend train on that too. All she needs to do is go on etsy. Or check out May Designs. She is so tone deaf, which is shocking because a few years ago she was THE trendsetter.

I popped by my Michaels yesterday to see if it was trendy. Mostly, it was the same old stuff.
However I did buy a tube of kind-of trendy washi on sale. The main selling point was a roll of tape with avocados that says "I'm the good kind of fat" and "avoca-dope".
The only Project Life items I saw were wedding-themed cards on clearance. Everything else is gone.

In one of the Creativation videos, Becky mentioned her new products were going to a big box store but she couldn't say which one. I wonder if that isn't happening now or if another store is picking up her products like Joann's. Sounds like it wouldn't be HL if they are shrinking their scrappy selection. I'm a fan of her page protectors & echo what others have said, Project Life brought me back to the hobby in 2013. I'll always be grateful for that. Never bought a single core kit though. Way too much of the same thing for me to want one.

My Michaels had PL binders for $8.99 today. I got a Midnight binder and one that was black and white striped.
I already had everything else that was marked down.
