I thought I had an epiphany moment on how to decrease my cluttered craft room - I was going to ditch all of my PL stuff since I've never 100% completed an album. (Started MANY pocket page albums but make it to around April, one even to August, and then just never finished.) Well, lo and behold, as I was stacking up all my PL supplies, my son (age 16) saw what I was doing and said "Those are my favorite albums you make, keep all that stuff!I think you need to do more albums like that." (This coming from the kid who usually doesn't care about any of my crafting!) Well, as a mom of all boys, you can imagine how much this pleased me! I truly didn't think they cared much about my scrapbooks. Now I'm back to the drawing board about how to make room in the craft room, but feeling like I may give another PL-style album a go for 2018! Thoughts? Do you still do PL or think it's kind of out? Just curious!

I still do PL style! If I want to do a traditional scrapbook page, I’ll just add it in there in a full size page protector.
I have been getting into Travelers Notebooks, but I prefer to write in them than to scrap in them.

I do a hybrid version of traditional layouts and pocket style pages. Definitely more pocket style pages if I'm being honest. I still scrapbook chronologically by event. Never did get into that photo a day or week/month in review nonsense lol. Pocket pages are great when you are scrapbooking a vacation or holiday where you have a lot of photos and/or memorabilia - at least for me.

My main form of documenting last year was PL.

I only did PL for a couple of years. I don't have much space for albums and I don't have kids, I just did them for myself. I don't think they're out - just not flavor of the month anymore. But tons of people I follow on Instagram still make PL albums.
I'm curious what your son liked so much about them. Was it the everyday details? or maybe the less artsy/decorated style? I know some non-scrapbookers don't really understand the idea of one photo on a page with lots of embellishment.

Like many others, I do both. Layouts when the picture/story warrants it. Pocket pages when it's just cute little moments.

I have done weekly PL spreads from 1/1/18-2/18/18. Currently working on the next week in February. I have also done two traditional layouts. I love both but am REALLY loving my PL spreads this year because it's getting my favorite daily photos off of my phone to look at and enjoy. I only do 8 /2 x 11 for layouts and PL spreads. I find it works better for me and it's easier to store. Last year I didn't scrap a thing! This year I am enjoying what I am doing.

I primarily use Project Life with a very occasional traditional page mixed in. Somehow concentrating on just one pocket at a time makes the process so much faster for me and my goal is to stay fairly up to date. I do weekly app pages for our family book and monthly physical layouts for each of my kids.

I tried PL one year & never made it past March because I found myself still wanting to make LOs using pictures I took specifically for PL.
I do a mix of traditional 12x12 pages & pocket pages when I have a lot of photos to work with (holidays, trips, sporting events...I take too many pictures of my boys' sports because I get really good pictures with MY DSLR). If I have enough photos to fill a pocket page, front & back, I will do that & also make a 12x12 page that will sit before the pocket page--kind of like a title page, and sometimes I have enough for a 12x12 page after the PP.
But honestly, a lot of times when I use more than one PP for an event, it turns into a glorified photo album because I usually don't do more than fill in empty pockets with cards. Depends on how much of a "get-er done" attitude I have at the moment!

98% of my albums are Project Life with an occasional 12x12 layout. I have one album per year. It’s my own personal restriction for space saving, but also because I don’t take tons of pictures. I don’t feel the need to document an event with tons of pictures that are practically identical. I have made some mini books, but I don’t like that they are harder to store and are separate from the “year” album.

My kids love the PL albums. That is why I do them. I have simplified my process. I print 4x6 photos without editing to fit a certain size pocket, and I print journaling on plain white cardstock. I also do my spreads monthly - sometime quarterly if I get behind, but they are still organized monthly.
Keep it simple! I hope you finish a whole year this time!
I have done PL style albums, I call them our yearbooks, since 2013.

I started doing PL January 2012 and have not felt the need to stop yet. Prior to that I would do 12x12, mini albums, and Ali's projects like DD/WITL/DITL. I rarely make 12x12 pages now, but I use the pocket style scrapping for PL each week and then I have the same pocket style for each of my kids in school.
The only other thing I really do is a spare album for a special vacation or something, like we went to Disney World last year and I ended up with two 9x12 albums using pockets and fold out spreads, etc.
I find the pockets easy because I generally stick with the same size for my photos 4x6 and 3x4 and find that easier to keep in mind when I'm taking the photos. Sometimes I plan in advance and can take photos to be cropped to square so I can use up those freaking 3x3 or 2x2 page protectors I have stacking up.
I've also fluctuated between super detailed and bulky pages to super simple and "just get it in there" type weeks. It's whatever works at the time. I don't like the pressure to have to use XXXXX or look like XXXX. I just do my own thing.
Also, bonus? I can generally go back to PL and find something that we may have forgotten about. "How much did we pay for that xxxx?" "Oh, I can't remember, let's see if it's in PL." And my kids adore going back through them. Double bonus.
(Sorry for the long answer, I love this style of memory keeping and I hate that the industry is shrinking so much.)

I don’t do PL... just don’t have enough to document each week! But I have recently done a couple of pocket pages and inserted them into my regular albums. I really struggled with the first page I did, and wasn’t sure I even liked it, but when I looked at it again a few weeks after, I decided I need to use these types of pages more often! I definitely like the look!

I definitely like the look! I have never done 'project life'. When I first became aware of modern day scrapbooking through Project Life, I didn't even entertain the idea of doing weekly or monthly scrapping but I knew this was the platform I had been looking for to record my life. I do pocket pages/PL but I only document events - birthdays, days out, holidays, snow days - or I sometimes do spreads about my house renovation. Pocket pages do not have to equal weekly documenting. It never has for me

Or sometimes OH will be like 'what did I eat that day at xx?' - I whip out the album and show him!

I still do PL. It is my primary form of memory keeping because I am a slow crafter and this method allows me to record more stuff in a similar timeframe.
If you don't find it something you enjoy keeping up with, you could mix it with traditional layouts amd maybe record a monthly overview instead of keeping it weekly.
But regardless, yay for your kiddo being interested!

I have done Project Life consistently since 2013 and don't think it is anything I will stop. I do also create traditional pages, but I typically include these in my project life albums or in a few additional albums (for pages that don't relate to what is going on right now, such as scrapbooking an old photo from my childhood). I have switched overtime doing monthly, weekly, or just filling an album as I go. I love the idea of capturing everyday life instead of just "big events" big enough for traditional pages. I also find that traditional pages take way more time to complete and I wouldn't have time to document everything that way. I think that project life style is a scrapbooking style that is here to stay--not really a "trend" anymore but just an alternative or supplement to traditional pages. While styles within each scrapbook type will evolve over the years, I think the basic concept of pocket pages is here to stay.
I think that project life is just so easy to keep up with, traditional layouts take so much more time for me. I've found a good balance between the two that really works for me--all of my traditional layouts get sandwiched into my project life with probably 4 layouts per month (and about 4 weekly spreads). I tend to do 9x12 or 8 1/2 x 11 traditional pages so that they are smaller than the project life sleeves, but sometimes I do 12x12. I do traditional layouts for bigger events or stories I want to tell and everything else for the month ends up in the pocket pages surrounding it. One thing that makes project life easier to keep up with is the idea that i can print photos in bulk and slip them in pockets and go back and add in cards/embellishments/journaling in shifts... in contrast with a traditional spread i really feel like i need to complete a layout start to finish in one sitting.
I agree with what someone previously mentioned about asking your son why he likes those albums more. I think you should also assess your creative process and figure out what works best for you. I don't think you should worry about what is "trendy" and really just worry about what process works for you and your family. I really don't know, but from reading your post it seems like you might've had trouble keeping up with project life because you were adding it in addition to all your regular traditional layouts. I think you need to think of it in terms of the total scrapbooking you do and divide your time between the two projects as you see fit--but expect that if you are going to devote time to project life, you probably need to reduce your goals for traditional pages. Maybe an approach similar to what i'm doing will work for you because you still get to create traditional pages, but it's all one project rather than having to keep up with two separate projects at once.

I would consider having your son keep up the project life album. Print the pics, give him some cards and have him put together the pages.

Great responses! I really don't know what it is my son prefers about the PL style album. I'll have to ask him! AndI'm not a trendy scrapper, so no concerns about it being "in" or not, but mentioned that because I was kind of surprised when I went online to look for any new pocket scrapbooking products/cards, etc. and found that a lot of the kit clubs no longer carry PL style kits. Made me wonder "hmmm, is that no longer what scrappy consumers are buying?" But obviously from this thread, this kind of scrapbooking is still going strong! That's great to hear! Where do you guys buy the square cornered cards? I have tons of the older PL style cards (some BH and some from other kit clubs) and they mainly have the rounded corners.

I do about 75% project life. Tossing my Becky Higgins core kits and finding other items to use (various kit clubs, in store products, printables) has made it much more fun. I don't round corners anymore and I have no issue combining items with rounded corners and those with square.
I still love traditional 12x12 layouts, but I'm much more inclined to use one larger photo on my layouts, a moment or photo that is meaningful. I really never enjoyed multiple photo layouts of things like birthdays or Christmas. For me, that stuff goes in PL.
I too have noticed my kids gravitate to the PL style albums. So much so that they now have a PL style album of school stuff and one for each of their sport/activities. Helps keep what goes in the monthly PL more manageable.

I do PL style pocket documentation for 99% of my memory keeping (with a DD or a mini album thrown in maybe once or twice a year). In this season of life, married with 3 kids ages 2-7, it just works best for me. I have a lot of little stories and details to capture with minimal time and mental energy to devote to it. I started out CM style scrapbooking before kids (nearly all vacation & trips) and took a break around the time my son was born, which was when the big shift to "layouts" happened. When I came back, that just wasn't my style or something that was enjoyable or even feasible to me. I know some people are bothered that pocket albums can feel very busy and haphazard. It doesn't bother me surprisingly enough, because it is so fitting for our lives right now.

In 2014 a friend of mine posted something about project life on her facebook page. I had never heard anything about it and was not doing any scrapbooking at the time. I asked her about it and she introduced me to PL (along with Studio Calico and Becky Higgins and all the rest). I made a few pages in 2014. I started in January of 2015 keeping one 12x12 page of PL per week. I really enjoy this type of memory keeping and it led me into other forms of crafting (mixed media, traditional 12x12, photography, painting, etc). I love looking back at the albums and I have found that friends and family do as well. As far as "where do I get cards?" I have to say that I have a large stash of the Becky Higgins cards, Studio Calico, and some others. I do not mind mixing rounded or square corners. I also like to cut 6x6 paper pads to make more 4x6 or 4x4 cards to mix and match with all of the 3x4 cards I have.

I'd say about 20% of my pages are grids or pocket pages. They're mixed right in with all my traditional pages.

I don't do ANY scrapping chronologically (meaning, no 'one album per year') but I use pocket pages along with regular 12x12 layouts to increase the # of photos I can put on a layout. I also make some 'random' round-up or monthly pocket page layouts... ones that cover an entire month, perhaps, or random pictures that don't fit with anything else.
But scrapping chronologically at the expense of my creativity and inspiration is an absolute FUN-SUCK for me, and the surest way to get me to stop altogether-- scrapping chronologically is why I quit doing it for a period of years, until I realized I could scrap whatever I wanted if I used a 3-ring album.
ETA: If I was you, I'd put the 'partial' PL-style albums together in one album and NOT stress over the fact that they're not 'completed' through the end of the year... who cares that they're just portions of the year? There's no 'right' or wrong way to scrapbook!! Do what you WANT and what makes you happy! Those layouts are still a snapshot of what was going on in your family during those times. Next time you decide to 'start' it (if you do-- you don't HAVE to), then you could start doing spreads to cover time spans later in the year, so you can eventually get a snapshot of an entire year.
as far as the cards, I buy a lot of DCWV, Recollections, etc. stacks, and they all seem to have PL-style cards in now. I also buy cut-apart sheets from different manufacturers when I see them in SB stores.
ETA2: I do have cards from a BH PL kit, but compared to 'regular' scrapbook supplies, the paper in the PL kits is REALLY chintzy and cheap. And, the printing is really poor quality, in my opinion. I don't use those any longer, and really should get rid of them. I might use the grid-printed cards, but the decorated cards? nope-- blech. It doesn't bother me if there are rounded corners AND square corners in the same page spread, though.
