I was polishing my glasses this afternoon and snap! the frames broke right at the nose piece. I knew I had an old pair around, but I wasn't sure where...fortunately, they were in the first place I looked, because I am almost blind without glasses. My current pair have progressive lenses, and this old pair aren't progressive, and have a big scratch on the left lens, so I have a headache from wearing them and can't read, but it's still better than being blind. This is the second pair of frames that have just snapped on me in the past few years. Are they just making frames cheaper and shoddier? I have a very strong feeling that when I call the eye doctor on Monday, they'll tell me the frames are discontinued and I'll need a whole new pair, lenses and all. And I'm going out of town in less than two weeks and who knows if I can get new glasses by then? It always takes forever. I guess this is more of a vent than anything else. What a pain. But hang onto those old glasses and put them in a safe, easy to find place!

If your insurance covers Lens Crafters try there, I always get my glasses the same day.

Well that just stinks! I got my last pair and an extra pair for DD at Costco and I don’t think it took more than a week to get them. Costco was much faster than the eye doctor we ordered DD’s initial pair of glasses from and a whole lot cheaper too. Good luck and I hope you get your new glasses in time!

Eyemart express. They use the same lens and frames that you get at the expensive eye doctor store.

If your insurance doesn't cover new frames and they are designers, check to see if you can buy the frames cheaper on ebay. My insurance covers lenses every year, but frames only every other year. I found two pairs I liked this year, which is rare so I went on ebay to find the second pair, purchased them and will have the lenses put in at my next appointment.

If your insurance covers Lens Crafters try there, I always get my glasses the same day. This only works (anywhere you go) if they have your lens prescription in stock. I have a high astigmatism and am serverly myopic. It usually takes about 10 days to get a lens. Which I consider ridiculous in this day and age! If if you can find the frames on eBay, you can switch the lenses out yourself.

I am fairly new to having to wear glasses but my husband and daughter have had to wear them since they were young and we have gotten them the same day as our eye exams.

Oh man, that's a bummer. I have about 3-4 old pairs. And I actually wear my old glasses for working in the yard or cutting wood.
Maybe you can ask if they will expedite the new ones.

If your frames are discontinued, I would try to go in-- they may have the same frame in another color, or another frame of the same shape that they can swap out.
I have really terrible vision, and I finally wised up and stuck a pair of glasses in my car, because if something happens to my contacts, I will be completely unable to drive. I also stashed a back up pair in my office desk, along with a pair of contacts.

Yes, I usually keep an old pair in my glove compartment, too, ever since my glasses washed off my face at the beach years ago. Thankfully my husband was with me and could drive me home, but it certainly made me realize how screwed I would be if something happened while I was out and alone!

Sorry Mystie if my comment doesn't apply in your case. I was only trying to be helpful. No problem! I appreciate all the help I can get! It's usually not possible for me to get glasses quickly, but I'm going to try every angle on Monday.

I feel for you, I am the same, cannot function without my glasses. Mine also take the better part of a week.
I have an old pair that I wear when I am dyeing my hair.
I hope you can get your glasses more quickly.

Because I wear mine daily and need protection, I get sturdy frames. I've had the same 10 pairs of glasses (almost all Versace because they last and they fit me well) for over 15 years. I treat them well and if they get scratched badly, I get the lenses replaced. I'm very happy with LensCrafters as far as them making your lenses and even with out the insurance, you could go in there and get them buffed out or repaired. They're great.
(As a sidenote: I haven't bought a new pair of glasses in about 4 years, luckily, but I'd hold onto the older frames and replace the lenses, especially if you liked them! I'm dying for a new pair of glasses as my Rx changed slightly but I can't afford it. Way back when I bought good name brand glasses, my household income was significantly different! Different world now + insurance gives you less and less every year!! )
Good luck to the OP. I'd personally search through your stash for a pair that is fashionable enough & sturdy enough, and see if you could get lenses put in there...... Why are the scratches ALWAYS right through the middle of the lens? Ughhh!

Where are you holding your glasses when you clean the lenses? You should be holding the frame on either side of the lease you are wiping. Then swap to hold the other lense when you go to clean it. Otherwise you’re just repeatedly bending the glasses at the bridge of the nose. (I may or may not have had this problem before..... 😇)

I’m sorry, that sucks!!
I do keep my old glasses. I actually have them in the RV as that seemed like the worst time to break or lose them!! But I do need to get a new pair so then I’ll have a spare for the house or car too.

I always buy two pairs when I get new glasses and keep one for emergencies, I couldn't tell you where that second pair is though!

I always keep a couple old pairs of glasses, I know exactly where they are. I feel blind without mine too and cannot function without them. I pack that spare pair when I go on vacation as well.

I have a couple old pairs stashed around the house and travel with a back up pair.
I'm blind and lost without mine. I'd go early in the zombie apocalypse because I'd be floundering about without my glasses.

I don't know if it is possible for your lens situation, but I bought a super dooper cheap pair off of Zenni online. I think they were $20. Sadly, they have came in necessary as back-ups more than once. They are not quick to get but as far as back-ups, can't beat the price.
