I swear it’s going to be the death of me!
5 days of coughing—tickle at the back of my throat and post nasal drip irritation.
Slept sitting up 2 days in a row it was so bad!
Major headache from coughing and my ribs are killing me.
Zyrtec, Claritin D, honey, cough syrup—nothing seems to work 😭
Any ideas?

But seriously, mix a shot of bourbon with a tablespoon or so of lemon juice and a tablespoon of honey and microwave about 30 seconds then sip slowly. Soothes it a lot.

Is it possible it isn't allergy related? How about some cough syrup with codeine for the night?

These home remedies are not going to work. I had the same allergy cough for 2 weeks and finally went to the Dr. He told me to double up on the allergy meds Claritin and Flonase 2x per day (if you're not taking Flonase start as soon as possible). He also gave me a prescription for Benzonatate which helped when I laid down. If you can get to a Dr I would try to get the Benzonatate.

Robitusson DM should thin your secretions and make them easier to get up.

I have a looooong history of allergy/asthma coughing, along with severe sinus headaches. Can't take "non-sedating" antihistamines because I feel like a zombie. Ditto the steroidal sprays like Flonase...
When I have bad post nasal drip I find nasal irrigation with the NeilMed system helpful, along with gargling with warm salty water. I take one or two Cepacol lozenges before bed to calm the coughing too. I've also read that it is good to shower and wash hair right before bed to wash away the day's pollens and should really adopt that habit.
I've been feeling lousy lately, super lethargic along with the fuzzy feeling of having a head full of cotton. It's been an on the couch with bad headache funk of a day for me today. Hoping to feel better in the morning. Good luck finding out things to help you!

I would try the netipot nasel rinse. It helps clean out some of the mucas that is dripping down your throat. Also drink lots of water to thIn th mucas.

Thank you all!!
I’m going to try everything/anything I can—the cough is so annoying and I end up laying awake with it plus headache and wake everyone else up.
I wish it would rain hard again here to wash the outside pollen down more, it helped the other day.
This year it must be really bad, I’ve never had allergy symptoms this badly.

I've been fighting the same problem for almost two weeks now especially at night. Found this on Pinterest. I add 2 or 3 teaspoons to a hot cup of tea when I feel the tickle start and it's really helped relive the irritation.
Chop or slice lemons into small pieces. Remove the seeds as much as possible. Fill mason jar with lemon slices, then add 1 tablespoon of grated or chopped ginger per lemon. Fill remaining space with honey. Refrigerate at least 24 hours before using. To use: Take by the spoonful, add to a mug of hot water, or stir into your tea.
It will last for weeks in the refrigerator.

I have allergies. I flush my sinuses with the neti-pot on a regular basis during allergy season. That helps alleviate some of the post nasal drip. I also use benadryl pills, flonase, throat spray and throat drops.
Hope you feel better soon.

I dread the thought that this could go on for weeks... I've felt your pain since this time 1981. I got bronchitis 3 years in a row several springs before that. I live on allergy and sinus medicine year round and it has made all the difference.

The cepacol really does work.I remember when a nurse brought it to me in the hospital and I was like, seriously? a cough drop? but it really works. The gargling with warm salt water works too, it cleans out some of the drainage. Be sure you are not having some acid reflux with all this stress that could compound the issue. That is what did me in. Work on stopping the nasal drip in addition to all the throat remedies, plus get to a doctor. If you cough syrup did not have codeine in it, then it will not do much good for this. You need the codeine to numb the tickle. Only a doctor can give you the RX

Singular. It's a rx but definitely helps along with Claritin.

DH had this issue. Dr prescribed Flonase. You can get it OTC. It worked.

Same. I started taking Mucinex pills and Flonase yesterday morning. I finally feel a bit more human. Also a Benadryl at bedtime.

Not sure where you live, but up here in NH a lot of people are suffering, including myself and my sons. The pollen is really high and because we had a late spring, everything seems to be blooming at once.
I am so sick of a sore throat and cough. I have been doing claratin, nasacort and tylenol. The last two mornings I have felt like a zombie too because I am congested and just tired from coughing. I am so over it! Oh also at night I use the Chloraseptic spray so I can fall asleep.

My allergies turned into bronchitis (again) this year. I'm on Day 8 of antibiotics and just now starting to feel like a normal person. My chest, shoulders and neck hurt so bad from all the coughing. My adjustable bed and the "Neti-Rocket" have been my best friends of late. I think I'm going to get out of the house for the first time in 11 days today. My heart goes out to you. I know how horrid the allergens are this year. Mucinex Day/Night tabs really helped to dry my head sinuses out. Drink LOTS of water to keep the mucus thin. Mucinex cough medicine seemed to help the most.

Thank you all!
I’m trying everything that is listed here that I haven’t already tried—and have a call into our allergist for the Rx stuff.
I was off and on awake last from the coughing and I’m tired!
It’s raining here right now—pretty good too, so I’m hoping that it washes a goodly amount of pollen off everything!
I live in The north East and spring is late, everything turned green last week. Our cars, homes, patios are all covered with a neon lime green dusting of pollen.
We even wipe the dog down good when he comes in from outside and have the windows closed to keep the pollens at bay.

I think my DD is experiencing the same. I've had her on Mucinex and Zyrtec, but will try the Flonase. I don't think the Mucinex has been helping her much.

I've been miserable with allergies for years, but 2 springs ago was especially bad. I was a mess and couldn't stop coughing. I ended up at the allergist and doing allergy shots. That first year it really didn't make much difference because I started mid-season, but last year and this year I don't need to take a lick of allergy meds. I feel bad that my husband and sons are suffering...but I'm feeling great. I can't recommend enough...it has made a HUGE increase in my quality of life.
I started gets shots every week and now I go once every 4 weeks. I found an office close to my work and I'm there and back during my lunch hour.

I feel your pain. I, too, feel like a zombie during the day because sleep with the ever-present cough is soooo tough.
I'll have to drag out the Neti pot. I've got "extra strength" saline on the recommendation of my allergist.

Flonase Sensimist. Snort 2 squirts of that stuff in each nostril a little while before bed and it should help
