I started taking Prilosec, on day 3... any advice? Foods to avoid during healing... snacks to take to keep stomach full? I think my too tight bra and husband has caused the stress, ha! H. pylori negative... TIA

I have no advice, but I didn't want to read and run. I'm so sorry about your diagnosis! When did you find out? What's the plan? ETA: you have my full permission to take the bra off, but keep the husband for now in case you need him, OK?

Low acid, low/no caffeine, no spicy.
Sorry you are dealing with that.

Does milk ever bother your stomach? Lactose intolerance can really irritate an ulcer.

Mint tea and tea made from crushed fennel seed. 1 cup of each daily for three months.

Are you taking probiotics? They have helped immensely with my acid reflux.

I take PB8 and usually right after dinner. I've tried other brands, but this one works just as well for me and it's not expensive.

Didn’t your doctor give you any instructions? No info about diet restrictions. I like the advice of the peas and real experiences.

My advice is to only stay on the PPI until you are healed and then get the hell off it. There are long term side effects from PPIs and if you can use it to heal and then wean yourself, with doctor's instructions, you'll be better off.
Hope you're feeling better quickly. I agree with all of the above advice. And chocolate - way too acidic.

Per USPharmacist: Over the years, there has been a growing concern over potential adverse effects associated with long-term therapy. Some of these concerns include hypergastrinemia, development of pneumonia, dementia, and drug interactions.2-4 Since 2010, the FDA has issued various safety warnings regarding the potential effects of long-term use of PPIs: risk of fractures, hypomagnesemia, Clostridium difficile–associated diarrhea, vitamin B12 deficiency, acute interstitial nephritis (AIN), and cutaneous and systemic lupus erythematosus events.5 Pharmacists play an important role in ensuring the appropriate use of these medications (Table 1), emphasizing appropriate dosing and self-monitoring during counseling sessions. Pharmacists should monitor for potential adverse effects, especially with prolonged use. Potential drug interactions should be identified and minimized with both prescription and OTC medications. Here's the link: PPIs

And just one more: NY TimesAfter going on a PPI (pantoprazole) last June to cure gastritis, I started having gall bladder attacks (and that was after getting an all clear on a scan of my gall bladder while diagnosing the gastritis, so we had a clear baseline.) Had to have an emergency cholecystectomy a month ago. I think they are related. I think PPIs are terrific drugs for acute conditions, but they are not healthy for long term usage.

Thanks peabay - something to talk to my rheumatologist about when I see him next and see if there's something less concerning that might work long-term or if this is one of those times where benefits outweigh the risks

I had an ulcer just about a year ago. Took Prilosec for a couple of months, along with generic Rx Carafate, which came in the form of a large white pill. Basically it was a chalky substance which coated the ulcer to help it heal, taken an hour before meals. I cut them in half to take - you swallow them w/o chewing, and within a few days I felt a marked improvement.
Avoid stress (easier said than done!) along with all the other food/drink/NSAID precautions as mentioned above.

I don't have my gall bladder so I don't have to worry about that. I have heard about this correlation. Thanks for the info.

My grandmother would put pieces of buttered toast in a bowl and pour hot milk on it. It was one of the few things that didn't upset her stomach.
For some odd reason she could eat spaghetto's. Always with buttered crackers. She like to pour the can of stuff in a baking dish an crumble the crackers over it.
She liked to drink a small glass of fresh maple syrup, she liked just the sap to. I think the fresh nutrients in it were good for her.

My doctor prescribes Sucralfate 1 gm three times a day and Pantopzole 40 mg once a day for stomach ulcers and advised it would need to take them forever. My ulcers caused my red blood count to go way down and needed two transfusions.

It may not work for everyone, but I carried saltine crackers with me everywhere. That is the only thing that could calm the pain while waiting for Zantac to kick in. I took Zantac for years. Now I only need it occasionally. I would avoid cucumbers, pepperoni pizza and garlic along with what op's have said.
