After seeing so many gorgeous (okay, and a few really weird) hats on all of the coverage of the recent royal wedding and a few British shows on Netflix, I found myself wanting hats to become a thing in the states. I have even been looking at various vintage hats on Etsy. Why did they fall out of favor here? There are so many beautiful hats from the 20s and 30s on Etsy that are making me want to start a trend. Why did women stop wearing them?
I can remember wearing sweet little hats to church on Easter when I was a child. White gloves too. Although that may have been because my grandmother was born in England and raised my mum to wear hats, which might be why she put hats on us when we were little. Do you remember wearing them as a child?
Would you wear them if they became popular here? And I mean other than ball caps. Like wide-brimmed straw hats in the summer and special occasion hats when you dress to go out? I have a brimmed hat that I wear when hiking to keep from being fried by the sun when out in it all day, but that is the only one I ever wear. Oh, and a warm fake fur trimmed one that I wore when we went to the snow.
I think the peas (non British that is) should start a trend of wearing hats here in the states!
Who’s with me?

I love hats but have a round face and think I look ridiculous in them.

I wear them often to church, but agree, they need to make a comeback. I, sadly, don't look good in cloches

Love hats just can't wear them. I must have a small head because most of the time they're way too big.

I have nothing against hats, I just don’t look good in them. I also hate how I get flat hair when I take the hat off. I only wear a hat if I really need to - being out in the hot sun for a hike/walk, or it is really cold and I wear a beanie. I never wore fashion hats as a child.

I love hats. For many years I was the only one still wearing a hat to church, and then as everyone became ridiculously casual in their dress, I stopped wearing hats.

I've recently started wearing hats in the summer time. Like floppy straw hats and fedoras. Keeps my forehead out of the sun and make my outfit look more put together. Perfect for when you're not having a good hair day. I always pack them for vacation.

I wear practical hats.. wool ones, sun ones, baseball caps... shade ones when hiking and sailing.. and very very occasionally wear a straw hat I got in equador.. it is blows off in the wind and is a pain to always carry around.. wear it to weddings.

Fun, dressy hats? I don't think I'd wear them that often. Maybe to a summer wedding for fun. But I'd love to be able to wear wide-brimmed hats (for sun) or baseball caps (for fun). Huge head + round face means I rarely get to. Plus, they make my head sweat and I don't like the way my hair sticks to my head when I take them off. I have taken to wearing the terribly attractive /s golf hats to block the sun when we are camping or I am at one of DH's triathlons. LOL! That reminds me of an amazing black felt cowboy hat I had in the 90s. That hat did fit and look good on me.

I went through a hat phase in the mid 80's. I think it was born out of the Princess Di days. We took a trip to London in 1985 and I wore several of my hats along with dress gloves. I loved them. As casual as dress has become, I can't see hats catching on again. Since I wear my hair short, I have more limited choices in which hats look good on me but I still wear a few now and then, must without feathers :-)

I wear baseball hats, visors, and wide brimmed sun hats frequently. I guess I’d don a fancy hat now and then if they were worn here the way they are in other places. I do have a large head, though, so I bet my options would be limited.

I sometimes wear a baseball hat to a ball game but that is about it. I’ve thought about getting a sun hat justo to protect my face but haven’t done so yet. I don’t see many women wearing hats here.
I don’t like the dressy hats like people wear in the U.K. and to the Kentucky derby. They look silly to me. I hope they don’t become popular here.

I only ever wear hats in the summer for protection. Although today I am going to the football and I can't be bothered washing my hair, so I'm going to wear a hat to hide my greasy hair! But it's only a peaked cap in my team colours, not quite a Royal wedding worthy hat!

I like them on other people, but I have a big head and usually can't find one that fits comfortably. Also have awful smushed hat hair when I do wear them.
I'll wear a broad brimmed floppy hat in the sun, or one to keep my head warm in winter, but I don't like wearing them.

I do wear a big floppy hat to the pool, a ball cap on bad hair days and knit caps on cold days. I actually don't like wearing hats because it limits my field of vision.
I do wear lots of sunscreen.

I do wear baseball caps on bad hair days and at the pool and beach. I like hats, and I think I look good in hats, but I would feel conspicuous wearing something fancy, and then there's the hat head issue. I want a flat wide brim black felt hat like Georgia O'Keefe's.

Lexica if you don't want to commit to buying hats, but want the fun of wearing them, many tea houses offer them on loan if you go for tea. It's fun.

I have a baseball cap I wear at the lake to keep bugs out of my hair and the sun off my face when we go swimming or on the boat, otherwise the only hats I wear are knit or polar fleece winter hats to keep my head warm. I don’t ever see fancy hats being a thing in my life. I remember seeing pictures of my older sisters wearing hats or veils and little white gloves to church when they were 8-10ish, maybe up through confirmation and then that fell out of style.

Ball hats are the only thing popular around here and I look horrible in them, especially when my hair is short. I look great in wider brimmed hats, they need to become a thing in this side of the pond. I wear straw hats on beach holidays.

I wore hats and gloves - and little ankle socks with lace - as a child whenever dress-up attire was called for.
Now the only hats I wear routinely are several straw sun hats I have that I wear to the pool, lake, or beach. I don't like ball caps and visors.
Occasionally, someone will host a tea party or a Kentucky Derby party and call for hats to be worn. Typically, all the ladies enjoy it and decide we ought to do it more often... and then we don't. Lol.

I remember wearing hats on Easter. I rarely wear a hat unless is freezing as I don't really have the profile for a hat. 😀. Hats are a big thing around here in July and August when the thoroughbred horse meet is going on. Think of the Kentucky Derby. There's a hat contest at the track calked Hat's Off. There are the gorgeous ones, then there are the ones made by people. There's even a kids division. Here are a couple if entries from years past. The potato chip hat is a nod to the fact that potato chips were invented at Moon's Lake House in Saratoga. Here are a couple crazy hats.

I’m not a hat fan. I remember having an Easter hat or two and may parents making me wear winter hats when I was a kid. Now, I’ll only wear one when it is super frigid out (less than 10* plus wind chill).

I love hats but have a round face and think I look ridiculous in them. Exactly why I can't pull them off! That and once I take it off, my hair is flattened and it looks crappy for the rest of the day.

I can't stand wearing a hat - it makes me feel stifled or something. Sounds weird, but it's how I feel. I also have a large head, so many don't fit right, and get terrible hat hair.
Even in very cold weather I will wear earmuffs and maybe put up a hood on my coat; still don't wear a hat.
(I have awful memories of our marching band hats in High school. I think I was a senior before I had one that truly fit right. Until then I had to cram my hair inside and force a too small hat on. I always ended up with a headache.

Not a fan of hats, I don't like how they feel on my head. I don't know anyone that wears them other than at the occasional wedding either. They aren't an every day thing here.

I like hats and have been told I look good in them. I don’t wear them very often though. I own a ton of hats from my chemo hair loss days but don’t ever wear most of them now. I have a straw cowboy hat that I love but have only worn it three times (to county music events). I like to wear a ball cap or floppy hat to the beach. I wore a hat for my first wedding (in 1988). I’ll have to see if I have a picture I can share.
