Helsinki is getting ready for the summit. Trump will be arriving tonight and Putin tomorrow. The biggest protest is today and I will be going. My morning got little better when I saw these ads by the biggest newspaper in Finland. (I tried embedding the tweet and failed, sorry!) I'll update after the protest! Hopefully there will be a lot of people despite it being a beautiful hot summer day here in Helsinki. If anyone wants to follow on Twitter, it's #helsinkicalling or #wecare. |

I'm back!
I hoped for a bigger crowd. But I also knew that today is summer Sunday and the weather is the best it can be here in Finland. Half of the country is on summer vacation and spends time at their cottages. It meant that only 1 500 protesters showed up today.
But at least there was some of us. I saw some clever signs and loved the group dressed as characters from Handmaid's Tale.
Those bus stops signs by Helsingin Sanomat are all over the city -I'm hoping Trump will get to see some. |

He has arrived and the motorcade is already in the hotel they are staying in.
Helicopters have been flying over for the last couple of hours. A lot of polices and soldiers in the streets. You never see securiry like this here.

Putin ja Trump are in the Presidential Palace. I have to admit, I'm little afraid what will happen. And it is still surreal that the those two leaders are meeting right here.
I went to the city center today to see the chaos. Tons of people in the street, both Finns and tourists. Somebody told me that five cruise ships were in Helsinki today. Hopefully they were wrong, because today it is impossible to see what Helsinki has to offer. Trams were stopped for hours and busses were re-routed and late.
I saw the motorcades. Putin was first, he came straight from the airport. An hour late. After him Trump arrived.
I was suprised a little by the security. They were a lot of polices and soldiers in the streets, but people were able to stand right next to street. I guess they know that the cars are bullet and bomb proof, so there isn't really a risk. And if I would have to guess, Finland isn't really a high risk country for anything.
I saw few MAGA-hats and some protest signs, but mostly people where there just to see the cars. When they drove past, people just took photos. No cheering or waiving, and I was happy about that.
I would like to know what the news in US are telling about the meeting and Helsinki. Give me the bad and the good! I already know I don't like whatever Fox News is saying... |

From what I have seen, people are skeptical that anything will be accomplished. It is suspect that again, nobody is allowed into the meeting. Trumps comments and tweets leading up to the meeting are concerning and it seems it is SSDD in regards to blaming Obama for the election hacking rather than Putin. He won’t be “hard hitting” regarding Putin’s behavior. |

Trumps comments and tweets leading up to the meeting are concerning and it seems it is SSDD in regards to blaming Obama for the election hacking rather than Putin. He won’t be “hard hitting” regarding Putin’s behavior. That is a concern for a number of reason. a. Trump could say whatever he likes about anything to Putin. b. Putin could do the same. c. Trump could promise Putin the earth. d.Putin could do the same to Trump. e. They could both come to an agreement and it could very well end up a different agreement with one saying one thing and the other saying something totally different. ALL OF THE ABOVE WITH NO WITNESSES OR ANYONE, IN AN OFFICIAL CAPACITY, FROM EITHER COUNTRY, TAKING NOTES.  |

Did Putin do that thing where he refuses to look up to a taller person by inclining his head? He’ll only look up with his eyes? He does it every single time. Makes my eyeballs hurt to see it. We are at the mercy of testosterone and ego. Watching these two operate is like putting them both on a psychoanalyst’s couch and asking them about their daddies. |
