ds has a girlfriend who pretty much lives here. She does weird things with their laundry I moved some laundry they were doing yesterday and it got me thinking. So she puts towels in with their clothes, which I find weird.... Because towels are a separate load. Their whites are grey because they just wash with everything, including towels I'm a separator - whites, lights, darks, towels, sheets. Today i'm randomly thinking do people wash sheets and towels together? Do they go together laundry-wise? I think they've all really gotten in my head now, lol.

Sheets and towels can go together as long as they're close to the same color (wouldn't want black towel lint on white sheets). They both go in hot water and get vinegar in the load to help disinfect.
Sounds like DS's girlfriend wasn't taught to do laundry properly, or just chooses not to separate out of laziness. I'll admit I don't separate as much as some people do, but whites get their own load because I don't want them dingy, and sheets/towels go separate from clothes.

I separate also. I bet she was never taught to separate. How old is she?? Maybe say something to her especially about the whites..

Sheets get washed on their own, as I usually add bleach. Also, adding in towels increases the wrinkle factor in the sheets. Towels on their own, because of their weight. I separate whites, darks, and super darks.

Someone probably does put sheets and towels in together but i don't. I'm a separator too, in the same way as you do.

I’ll dissent! I wash everything together. We don’t have a lot of ‘whites’ per say. I have no problem tossing everything into the wash that needs washed, as long as the load is reasonably sized so the machine can agitate properly.

Sheets get their own wash. I do separate darks and lights but i have no problem bunging a towel in with clothes if there's space. At some point I had a red towel that has now coloured them all a pale pink so it's pointless being too fussy.

I used to separate everything but I have gotten lazy in my old age!! I separate out whites and sheets get washed separately but that is about it.

I do sheets and towels together. I separate out anything like socks and I would also do that with towels. Dh and I call it doing a load of fluffies I separate colours and delicates but DH doesn't and it drives me nuts. My mum also just throws everything in together. She's one of those people who's clothes always look perfect; I don't know how she does it!

We separate: lights (including whites) that get hung up in cold water darks that get hung up in cold water all dry all the way laundry (socks, underwear, undershirts, casual shorts and sleepwear)is washed together, unless there is a reason not to (red socks) in warm water softball clothes are their own load in warm water Sheets and Towels are usually separate just because of the amount, but as long as the colors are similar, I wouldn't have an issue with washing them together. in hot water
When DS is at school, he does: lights and whites darks sheets and towels. Everything in warm water. This is to reduce the number of loads he is paying for and waiting for.
Oh, and jeans are always their own load. (It's summer, so that isn't an issue currently!)

I separate whites, colours, and darks. No separate wash for sheets and towels. All of my sheets are white and, if I did them separately, I would never have enough for a full load of white.

I separate by colors - whites, lights & darks. Our towels/washcloths are cream colored & there's only two of us, so they go in with our whites. We rarely have white shirts, so our whites consist of mostly socks & towels. Now that it's summer, I do have white pants/capris to add to that mix.
Our sheets/pillowcases are burgundy & get washed on their own.

I’ll separate sheets, but only because they take up the most space. Towels go in along side clothes of similar colors/weights. Like our blue towels go right in with jeans and T-shirt’s/sweatshirts. Why not?! If I had to wait to wash towels until I had a full load I would have to wait forever. Dish towels also get mixed in according to colors/fabrics.

I separate lights, darks, towels, sheets. It's just DH and I, I typically have 1 load of lights (includes whites) one load of darks and 1 sheets, and 1 towels. Admittedly I only wash my sheets every other week, so on the off week I throw pillow cases only in with the towels.

I was taught how to separate the colors, but that was because we had a family of eight and it worked great for that. I can remember on Sunday evenings going into the laundry room and adding to the piles by category and adding to the piles. Mom always did the laundry and ironing on Mondays.
It's just DD12 and me. I definitely wash sheets separately. Bath towels are washed separately, sometimes I throw the kitchen towels and hot pads in there. Clothes generally we don't separate. We just don't wear white in this house, even undergarments are a nude color - so generally I wash my stuff altogether separately and DD12's separately. We've not had issues and it seems to be most efficient and water saving.

Sheets are washed alone, and towels are washed alone. Other than that, everything can be washed together regardless of color. I learned from my girls when they were in college to just use ColorCatchers. Love those things.

I separate, probably more than necessary.
We have enough dark colors that they are there own load...red load, green load, dark blue load, grey load, dark grey load, black load. There is a light blue load, too. Pinks and light oranges go together. Yellows and light greens are a load. Jeans are separate from other pants.
So, obviously, I wash sheets by themselves and towels by themselves. Towels are white load and blue load, never mixed.
Laundry is one of my favorite chores.

We generate enough laundry that separating isn’t even a question. I usually have about 8 loads a week and that is since being done with cloth diapers.

Sheets are washed alone, as are whites. Everything else has to take its chance in a mixed load. I have no qualms about putting towels in with clothing. I
Come to think of it, I do wash teatowels separately. I couldn't fancy using one if it had been in the machine with the boys undercrackers. Eew.

Do her a favor and give her a box of these. They won't help with the fuzz that gets on clothing from towels & heavy socks, and they aren't gonna help if you leave wet laundry sitting around (where it can bleed into other wet clothing), but they are fantastic for catching dye runoff. I use them every load. I'll toss in a new one with older ones I'm reusing. The used cloths are absolutely fantastic for cleaning up the gunk that gets on the washer and dryer.

I’m the worse housewife ever but even I separate a little.
Sheets go alone (otherwise stuff gets stuck in the corner of the fitted sheet and never dries) Whites and lights go together (if they’re not light enough to go with whites they go with darks) Darks go together Towels usually go together but I’ll occasionally toss one in with the darks to fill the load Swimsuits go in with towels Delicates get their own wash too (which includes dh’s work clothes)

Sheets and towels are separate loads for me.
Sheets, Towels, Undies, Casual (jeans/tees - usually light clothes), Dressy (work clothes-usually dark clothes)

Educate me, why do sheets and towels have to be washed alone? My sheets and towels are purple. I have very little whites. I don’t bleach anything.

I rarely separate anything - usually only if it is a new item and I'm concerned the colour will run. When my work uniform was white cotton then I did used to do those separately but that was a good long time ago now. Now it all goes in together.
I live alone & I don't need my towels to be snow white...dingy is just fine, they still get me dry after a shower no matter what shade of white they are. I have a good set of towels I put out when someone visits. I pretty much only wear dark colours...I don't own any white shirts or many light colored clothes so I don't have to worry about that. My sheets are all coloured as well (no white) so they just go in with everything else.
So my usual routine is to grab whatever needs washing, clothes, sheets, towels etc and do it all in one load. usually once a week. If for some reason I've got more then one load then I'll make some attempt to separate them for ease, but commonly towels and bedding goes in one load and clothes in the other.

whites get their own load because I don't want them dingy It depends how many whites I have and what they are. Socks? They go in with towels. Button down shirts? They go in with other lighter colored button down shirts with a color catcher sheet. Basically, I group like fabrics together with light-mid colors, bright colors, and very dark. Since I've started using those color catchers, the only problem I have is with putting in a linty fabric in with the wrong load. No problem with whites getting dingy.

Educate me, why do sheets and towels have to be washed alone? My sheets and towels are purple. I have very little whites. I don’t bleach anything. I wash them separately because the weight and texture create a lot of friction in the agitate and spin cycles. I think separating by fabric type helps clothes look better longer.

I separate also, but sheets and towels go together because they are all white all the time. Boring, I know, but it makes laundry so much easier

Towels go in their own load. Sheets in their own. Denim in its own.
Everything else can be washed together. I don’t separate colors, darks, lights, and whites. Sometimes I separate reds (when we have a new red item). I wash everything together on cold. Never have a problem with bleeding or dingy whites.
We are a family of six. We have tons of laundry/week and I’m not going to waste more time and money doing needless separating and extra tiny loads.

I do sheets alone -- mostly because our sheets are king sized and get tangly and catch things. All our sheets are white, but I only do the kids' beds when they are home visiting. Their sheets together are a full load. I do towels and jeans because they set the washer off balance if I only put one in a load. I just gather them all up a couple times a week. Dog and cat beds get their own load once a week. Most clothes go together. I may break it up into dark/light if there's something I know will bleed.
I sort more on heavy/light fabrics because my washer is touchy about being off balance.
