Today I was reviewing an applicant's resume and checked out their GitHub repository to review their work. Their profile picture is the candidate in front of a coffin with a huge cross in the background. I've seen a lot of unusual selections for profile photos, but that one takes the cake.
What strange things have you come across when hiring people?

One of my company's recruiters said he'd recently gotten a cover letter that said "Resumes are so (I don't remember the exact year) - see my LinkedIn profile." Needless to say this person didn't get an interview.

The on that made me shake my head was the young man who listed “ can read a tape measure “ as a special skill. He was applying for a construction crew.

I know of construction companies in our area actually test the ability to read a tape measure as part of the interview process, and indicate so in the job advertisement. Apparently it's a rare skill.

A graphic arts company I worked for had an ad for a typesetter. Would you hire someone with typos in their resume?

I have enjoyed these:
Special skills Confident (less than one year) self-motivated (less than one year) outgoing (less than one year)
And this job description for an outdoor arena. "Walking around selling stuff"

I saw a CV for an academic position that listed a letter to the editor of one of those free local magazines as a “publication.”

We have a standard electronic application that expands to include about as many previous jobs as a candidate wishes to include. Under "reason for leaving" previous positions, one person wrote "disagreement with supervisor"--for all previous jobs!
I also see the same typos repeatedly, the kind that a spell check doesn't catch. We receive resumes/applications from many "mangers" with "costumer" service experience gained from working with the "pubic".

Years ago, I analyzed resumes for specialized mechanics. One fellow had a decent resume and I was all set to send him an email until I saw his email address which was something like "bigdaddy69" @aol.com (which tells you how long ago this was).

I was surprised to see an applicant had my cousin as his reference. I knew he would give me an honest answer. When I called he said they even named the kid after me and I wouldn't hire him!

I was a retail sales manager for many years - interviewing for sales and stock positions.
One guy, after lengthy interview, told me that he couldn't be around children. I couldn't get him out of the store quick enough. Had the willies from thinking about why he couldn't. (And working in retail, you can be sure there would be children in the store from time-to-time.)
Another guy I interviewed told me his current job was a "bone extractor". I asked him what that was and he told me that he extracted bones out of dead people all the way from the mandible to the toes. WHAT?! He told me that they remove every imaginable bone in the body for use as replacements in live people. I asked him what if the person was having an open casket after this and he said they replaced the bones with PVC piping! I asked him if he was a mortician or what kind of degree he had to do that kind of work. He said no degree - on the job training. I said so anyone can go cutting into these people!? He said yes - he worked under a guy training at the beginning. I was horrified and curious and shocked - all at the same time. Like not being able to stop looking at a car wreck! He was interviewing for a retail sales position - said he needed a change of scenery. I guess so!

I was a recruiter, so I have seen some whoppers. My favorite basic resume was this one:
Company: Taco Bell Title: Taco Maker Duties: Made tacos.
Then there was the convicted arsonist who felt so angry that he could just blow something up. That was not on a resume. That was his interview w/a recruiter that I was training. It was her first time interviewing a candidate alone. Oops.

DSO has a similar one when interviewing people for a warehouse position, but it was a young woman. Her email address was something like hot4s.ex@gmail.com. We couldn’t believe it! But thinking about it, I wouldn’t be surprised if she didn’t actually want the job. She was probably on the dole (unemployment benefits) and had to apply for a certain number of jobs each week in order to keep getting her payments, and didn’t actually want to have to work.

I was recruiting for a college intern position (so most applicants typically had very little work experience). One of the applicants listed in his "skills" section that he could beat anyone who challenged him at Call of Duty Pam

The on that made me shake my head was the young man who listed “ can read a tape measure “ as a special skill. He was applying for a construction crew. My husband once worked construction with someone who read the tape measure in "lines". So when DH would ask him to call out a measurement he would say something like "2 feet and 4 lines" and Dh would have to translate. DH tried and tried to teach him how to read and he was emphatic, "That is how *I* read a tape measure". DH was pretty patient, since he was the one who got my brother (the line reader) the job in the first place, lol.

Nope lol. Senior level software developers I was an hr manager in a company of developers. Now your story makes sense. HA! hahahaha right??? When I was in banking, all the of initial screening was done by HR so I never saw the doozies. My company now is much smaller and hiring managers take care of all screening and interviewing and OMG I can't believe some of what I see now lol
