I have known a couple neighborhood friends of my brothers who were murdered. I have also had 2 uncles and an aunt who were murdered, but they all died before I was born. One aunt and uncle were murdered by a crazy man with a gun. The man shut off the power from the house to draw my uncle out. He shot him. Then my aunt ran out and he shot her. The guy was obsessed with my uncles mother and came up with a plan to murder her entire family. He was caught after killing my aunt and uncle. Another uncle was drowned by someone. People in town saw it, but didn't report it because it because the murderer was a gang member.

I knew two people who were murdered. One was my cousin’s wife, who was murdered at an ATM, while withdrawing money. The other was someone I worked with on a daily basis. He was beaten to death on the street for unknown reasons.

My cousin Chris, who was a year older than me, in summer 1976. He was found hanging in the bathroom with his feet and hands bound. Case went cold, never solved. We were looking forward to the start of the school year when we finally would be going to the same school (we went to different feeder schools for our HS).
I went to school with Lillie Kennedy (she was a year ahead of me, same class as my cousin), who was murdered along with her older sister Yleen back in 1984 in the Houston Heights. It was a cold case until 2015 when the scum who killed them was finally caught, tried and convicted. He was sentenced under the sentencing statutes in effect at the time of the murders and plea-bargained, so he only got 15 years and with time for good behavior and all that crap probably will get out sooner (as in 2021).
The last victim of Dean Corll aka the Candy Man was a boy from my neighborhood. I didn't know Stanton really well, but he was one of the large group of kids who always played sandlot ball and rode bikes. He was 13 when he was killed, and I was 11. That was 45 years ago this month.
I also know one person who was convicted of murder. Howard and my late DH were really close growing up and still good friends as adults, and I knew him from that friendship. He was also one of my mom's nurses before she passed away. Howard shot and killed his wife (who was pregnant) in late 2005 and was convicted of capital murder and is serving life without parole. I truly believe he didn't mean to do it (he had been drinking, they were arguing over bills, there was a gun and struggle, but he was found by the first responders performing CPR on her). I actually ran into him about the middle of that year and he was telling me he was dating this gal but there was no way he was ever getting married again so I don't know what happened there. It's sad for everyone involved.

Yes. My step-grandfather was murdered in a store robbery. I was in my early 20's, almost 40 years ago, and it was the first tragedy in our family. They did catch the killers but they were back out on the streets in under 7 years. I'm so sorry. That's horrible that they got so little time. Talk about adding insult to injury!

Our next door neighbor and DH's coworker (LEO) moved to another state and was murdered while he was undercover.
A friend's son was beat to death with a baseball bat, in a road rage incident, out in the country. It was horrific.
Theresa Halbach's (Making of a Murderer) brother is a friend of my son in law and attended their wedding. He is usually the spokesman for their family.

Cousins by marriage were murdered by Manson. Does your family go to hearings to keep the two women in prison?

My SIL was murdered by her estranged husband. After, he cleaned out the medicine cabinets and her purse, and washed it all down with a bottle of Jack Daniels. His DD17 found their bodies, when she came by to check on SIL. Her dad sent her some odd texts, and SIL wasn't texting her back.

Yes. A long time family friend of my parents was murdered by his son. The son is schizophrenic and does not understand what happened. He is in a state mental hospital because he is not fit for trial. Last I heard, the son wanted to know why his dad left him there and won’t come get him.
When I was a teen, I regularly babysat for the family.

Yes, a friend from college (and one of my best friend's cousin) was murdered by his neighbor in Austin. He was shot in his backyard, once through the heart, over a fence dispute. It was determined to be premeditated but the murderer was never prosecuted and ended up committing suicide a few years later.
My former secretary's daughter was murdered, also by a neighbor. I was a young child at the time and she was a teenager. I'm sure I knew her but I have no memory of her because I was so young when she was killed but her memory was always a present fixture in my life.

I have not, and I have to say, this is one of the most disturbing and heartbreaking threads I ever remember reading on 2 Peas. My deepest sympathies to all of you who have been impacted by murder.

Thankfully I do not but one friend, who was attacked by her BF, came awfully close.
I am so sorry for everyone who has been impacted by violence. You have my deepest condolences.

In 1999 my Mom's coworker's husband and daughter were shot and killed. He was 50 and she was 14.
Her parent's were against the relationship she was in. She was in 8th grade and he was a senior in HS. Months of both sets of parents separating them and the kids sneaking back together. Then the daughter thought she was pregnant and she told her Mom. No she wasn't, but her parents called the police and pressed statuary rape charges. Her Dad rented an apartment and just him and the daughter moved, to keep the kids separated while they went to court. Except phone records showed that she called the boyfriend several times the day before they were going to court.
He used a shotgun and shot them both in the back of the head, according to him, at 10:30p. The time is crucial because he was only 17, his birthday was the next day. He was tried and sentenced to the death penalty but was later re sentenced to life without parole because he was a minor when the murders took place.
To see both Mom's now, my heart breaks. Both Mom's lives were shattered and it is still hard on both Mom's.

These stories are all so horrific, I’m so sorry for everyone’s losses. I don't know anyone personally, but one of my brothers had a friend who was killed. He had gone to a work picnic with her (they were just good friends and not even dating) and one of her coworkers killed her later that day outside her house. My brother was going to meet back up with her later and when she didn’t show up, he went to her house and found all the emergency vehicles and police were there. The killer supposedly was jealous that she was at the picnic with my brother (the killer and my brother’s friend were never romantically involved) and he allegedly stated he would have “killed the guy too if he would have been there”. The killer didn’t know my brother at all. Her murder messed up my brother’s head for a long time with survivor’s guilt.

Can I say maybe I am naive...I almost kinda shocked about how many of us know of a murder and/or murderer.. (although the two that I know of really didn't affect our family).. but there are some sad stories... so sorry for all of you that have gone through such terrible pain.

In high school, I had a friend shoot and kill a mutual friend. Then the shooter took off and got into a shootout with the police. He was the first suicide by cop in my city. I knew another murderer, but no more victims. What do you mean by “suicide by cop”?

My mother’s best friend lost her daughter. She just disappeared. I think that affected my mother a lot. She was nervous when my brother was out.

So sorry to hear all these awful stories!
My cousin, older by 3 yrs, was killed by an acquaintance that he was trying to talk out of suicide. I was 18 so he would have been 21. Killer is still in prison & my aunt goes to all of his parole hearings. I gave my son my cousin’s name as his middle name.
A few years after i graduated HS, my former drama teacher was in the local grocery store when his adopted son (1 yr older than me & former bf of my friend/classmate) went in & shot him. I believe he is also still in prison.

Yes, both of my parents were murdered by someone who was a stranger to them when I was a small child. Hugs to those who have lost people they love. Omg! I am so, so sorry! My DH’s uncle's brother was murdered by someone he owed money to. Not a mob thing, but close. They tied him up, threw him in the trunk of his car and drove it into a lake. He was found 2 days later, when someone saw the car. Friends of ours through my husband's lodge, their daughter was just murdered last week by her husband. He killed her in front of their 3 teenaged kids and then took his own life. Those kids are traumatized for life. I can't even wrap my head around it..it was out of nowhere. The same couple lost their 18 year old son 10 years ago to a drunk driver hit and run. My dad was friends with Leslie Mahaffy's dad Dan. She was murdered by Paul Bernardo and Karla Holmolka. I never knew her as she was younger, but my dad met her several times.

The Naisbett's of the HIFI Shop murders fame in UT. Carol Naisbett was my Sunday School teacher and the mother of my friend. They were neighbors of ours. By Naisbett was by father's BFF. The night of the murders, my Dad got a call from someone at the hospital (both physicians)saying that they had heard a rumor that By's wife was shot. My Dad went to the hospital only to meet his BFF coming out of the morge after identifying Carol. That night was really weird in our neighborhood as there was police patrol all night long. The murderers were sentenced to death. The weeks surrounding their executions were always horrible with police everywhere in the neighborhood. Courtney suffered the effects of his attempted murder the rest of his life and eventually died because of them.
My sister's friend and co-worker was murdered by her husband. She was out for a walk and he hit her with his truck.

Yes unfortunately. My uncle was shot and killed by the husband of a woman he was having an affair with. The husband broke into their workplace, killed both of them and then killed himself.
And the sister of a friend was murdered by her boyfriend. She was the mother of 2 young children and disappeared. Everyone knew she was dead, but she was found a year later. The boyfriend went to jail for 5-7 years. All the while her mother had to bring the children to visit their father. When he got out of prison he got custody of the kids.

Back when I was a teenager a local lady who owned a small shop ina village on my way to school was murdered by a young guy who was obsessed with her, her daughter went to my school. It was horrible
20 years ago a girl from my class was abducted from just outside her home, last month it was upgraded from missing person to a murder case, she was 19, her poor parents are always appealing for information
