Has this challenge stopped? November is fast approaching. flanz Thanks, Olan ! Only a couple of us were participating in the threads I started and they fizzled out. I should start one again in honor of Compwalla and because yes, there is soooo much work to be done. However, I'm hoping someone else can post a new thread for this purpose... i'm swamped and have just heard the third piece of awful news since Sunday affecting loved ones. Missing Compwalla and feeling a little overwhelmed. In order to lessen flanz ‘s load, I will start this thread. Hopefully, people like Olan who are committed to it will shoulder some moderating responsibility if flanz or I are away from it for a while. I have been focusing my efforts on actively supporting various people in my life who also have cancer. I have tried to show the nurses who work in the Walter Reed Chemo Suite tangible as well as verbal appreciation - it is challenging work, and I can imagine could be depressing as hell spending shift after shift pumping poison into people, but our nurses are always upbeat, have a quick smile for everyone, and are both knowledgeable and patient. Even though we don’t live in her congressional district (we are 1 district over), we are giving money to Jennifer Wexton’s Campaign, hoping that she will unseat Barbara Comstock.

Hi Elaine, flanz mentioned how little traction the Compwalla Call To Action threads had when she first began posting them, so I hesitate in taking on the role of thread starter. With readership already so low, my taking over would cause even fewer peas to see it since so many of you have Olan on ignore. Maybe a more active Pea could take over while flanz isn't able to. I think it's great Akathy's memory is honored with a daily thread so I certainly don't mind occasionally posting when I can see it's been awhile since Virginia has had the honor.

You certainly don’t have to take it over, I was suggesting a group approach where more than one person could be responsible for getting the ball rolling if they noticed it had been a while since the thread was active by posting their own actions and asking about others’. It would also help the workload if more than one person commented on/supported others’ posts. You seem interested in it - and I think you’d be perfect. Being totally responsible for a repeating thread like these is a bit of work and flanz has personal issues taking her time, so I think Compwalla would want some others to take some action, step up to the plate, and help out. I, as I mentioned, will do part of it, but I also have the Cancer Warriors thread that I post/lead, not to mention the cancer treatment going on in my life, so know that I would not be able to do this - Compwalla’s Call - by myself. I can and will help out though.

I'm currently in the midst of getting ready for P-Ink.org Pink Day 2018. It's a non profit that gives tattoos to breast cancer or previvor women. I've volunteered for 4 years now. 3 of us plan most of the year and try to fundraise a little. We have 3 shops and 15 survivor warriors receiving free tattoos this year! 15 artists have donated their time, materials and creativity to give these women a step in their journey to healing. Confession: I cry hard every year. It's so uplifting to see how happy they are. It's incredibly fulfilling. And I did receive a tattoo 3 years ago and I love mine.
My depression is fighting me for control, but doing this, I consider self care. It makes me feel good.
And I think of Virginia a lot. Surprisingly. Makes me realize how inspirational she was in so many different ways.

Will each woman design her own tattoo or is it a total surprise?! Hoping your depression stays at bay. I woke up to solid coconut oil this morning and felt instant regret about all the summer things I didn't do so I can relate. I did a whole lot of canvassing the month of September but am looking forward to getting back to the "resistance" that makes me happy! It all starts with this work though. I did connect with two new elders who were displaced after a fire so it's been fun hearing their stories and feeding them. Does anyone have a teenager voting for the first time?

My 18 year old is voting for the first time and is beyond excited. Living in Metro DC, politics are our local news and we discuss them at the dinner table. He’s hoping to see the House flip to blue in November.

My 18 year old made sure she was registered to vote and did so in the primary. I expect she will vote in the general. She didn't share all her votes, but she did say Gretchen whitmer, our democratic governor candidate rocks!

I just gave $$ to Planned Parenthood and also to Jennifer Wexton - a Democrat who is running against Barbara Comstock (R) (who voted for required tranvaginal ultrasounds for women seeking to terminate pregnancies) in the House district next to mine.

Writing Postcards to Voters tomorrow.
E-mailed our Democratic candidate for Governor to get set up to volunteer next week.
Will be donating to a campaign but I can't decide which one. I might just give to Swing Left and let them out my money where they think it will do the most good.
I would have very much liked to have Virginia here with us these past couple weeks.

I've got signs in the front yard. Have donated to a couple of candidates and next weekend will be participating in a door to door campaign.

Hoping Beto can take out Cruz. He has my donation money at least. I was unable to meet the dates for the phone banks but I'm hoping they put out another volunteer call soon. I need to see about the postcards. I can do that!

I've been canvassing and keeping busy. Today is Fannie Lou Hamer's Birthday as well. I could eat cake every day this month with all the steps I've taken so there's that.
Keep plugging away at change.

Nothing formal but reminding everyone I see to vote. Especially the young people in my life. Most of them are ahead of me, registered (if need be) and waiting.
In Wisconsin, registration can be done same day. Don't see why it shouldn't be that way everywhere.
Nephew is headed to Utah for the winter. He was over today voting came up, and he's on it with absentee.

I am also planning on voting early. Just in case. Just in case of what, who knows. But just in case- I need to vote. I will take advantage to the two week window before the election and vote. Wisconsin rules for absentee/early voting can be found HERE.
