sbartist - I walk for 5 minutes before my first running interval and usually for a few minutes after my last. I don't do any tempo runs, fartleks, hill repeats or track workouts. I just head out the door with my phone (music, emergencies, Runkeeper, sometimes pictures) & do my intervals for the miles I need to hit. I'm all packed to head up to MI tomorrow morning! The weather looks just about perfect for the race Sunday morning & my foot/ankle feels great. I'll let y'all know how it goes!

Yoki, I hope you have an awesome race! Enjoy yourself. I am am so loving this weather! I got 4 miles in this morning. Other than that big blister on my bunion, it was actually enjoyable. What does everyone have planned for this weekend? Since I did my three days this week already, I dont know if I'm going to run or not. We are going to see Box Trolls.

I've got a 5K tomorrow, that will run on our County owned "non-motorized pedestrian" and bicycle trail. I love their definition of it, lol. The bicyclists are a menace though and I wish they weren't allowed. You have to watch for them and the AWT vehicle and off road-er, who are not supposed to be on it; they will show up too. Grrrrrrr We'll probably hit our local County Fair on Sunday when crowds are small and funnel cake is still plentiful. Hoping this amazing weather holds out for the whole weekend.

Yoki atomicdog and Anna*Banana hope your events go well. Great to hear how everyone is doing. I'm just enjoying a coffee after my run this morning 3 hrs 15 and 30km which is the longest we're doing in our marathon prep. We have a down week coming up, then one more 3hr then we'll be tapering - don't know where the time has gone

I'm so happy!!! My goal for today's race was to finish in under 36 minutes (best so far had been like 36:40) - I did my 5K in 35:06 - that's an11:19 mile pace - I've never come close to that!!! I'm geeked!
That said, the sight of all the survivors of breast cancer in the pre-race parade was enough to make me cry - they are all such incredible women - truly the highlight of the morning.
How'd everyone else do in their events or runs??

Ran my Christmas in April 5K race today... Yeah, I know. But no kidding that was the run/walk name. Christmas in April on September 27th, lol. I ran a respectable time of 39:40 considering all things. The race was run along a normally very nice paved trail that is really nice to run on; 10 feet wide in most places. But it was so crowded and 3 miles isn't really much time for the people to break up into comfortable runnin. It made the Disney run seem like there was nothing but room no one was running. It was just too narrow and hard to break out and have room. Still just finishing without any shin/splint pain or any muscle cramps was a HUGE success! Lots of room for improvement on the road back. I'm real happy with my slow(ish) time.

Yay atomicdog & Anna*Banana! I guess I'm ready for tomorrow morning. I should be trying to sleep since I got up at 4 this morning, but I'm feeling nervous. I've done enough of these that I shouldn't be, but I guess I'm worried about my foot/ankle pain coming back suddenly on the course. I will think positively, though!

It'll be crowded next month in DC, but the course is a lot wider, and people will spread out over 10 miles.

Here's my race recap: The Good: I finished! I never had a problem with my foot/ankle! It was a perfect weather morning for a race! The course was interesting, well supported & pretty! I didn't barf on the course or crap in my running skirt (which leads to ...) The Bad: I was up for most of the night with some sort of stomach distress. Because I was spending so much time in the bathroom, I wasn't really sleeping & I was pretty concerned about being ok for the race. (Happily, I was.) The Ugly: Y'all, this course kicked my butt! Up to mile 8 was clicking along nicely, but then there was a beast of a hill that was just redonkulous. And it kept going & going and all the remaining miles were full of rolling hills. So.Much.Walking! My time was a disaster, but all things considered, I'm calling it a success. So - state #9 is done & now I only have 41 more to go. Thank you for all the good race vibes!

WTG, Yoki!! I'm so glad your tummy cooperated during the race. I think that is one of my big fears during a race. As far as the walking…ya gotta do what ya gotta do sometimes. Finishing is the first goal and everything after that is gravy. :-)

You go, girl! Great for You! I'm glad that your digestive system held on during the race. Who cares about the walking - you finished and that is what is most important. And your foot was good! I've read Galloway say several times to not worry about not getting much sleep the night before a race - many people don't and it doesn't appear to affect performance. Whether it is true or not, I recite it to myself when having to get up at 4 am for a race, because heaven knows I didn't fall asleep until at least 11-12:00 the night before.

Yoki - where in MIchigan did you run? I'm originally from Detroit - I would not want to run through there, but there are some beautiful areas in Michigan. I'm just curious where this was. Good for you - sounds like you did well! OK runners - I'm in SC - other than the Cooper River Bridge Run - does anyone have any other 5-10K runs they'd recommend in this area?

There is a Half Marathon in Myrtle Beach each February. I'd love to do that one some day - it's supposedly a nice flat course. Eta: Jeff Galloway is holding a Half in December in Atlanta - depending on where you are in SC, this might not be too far. His wife is holding a 5K the day before.

atomicdog - This race was in Rochester - it was lovely. I did the Myrtle Beach 1/2 in Feb in 2013 (it was my SC race) and it was fun! Very flat, lots to look at & a fun place to hang out for the weekend. A little further south, my GA race was on Tybee Island & that was a great race, too.

So glad you finished and didn't have pain, no barfing and especially that you didn't crap in your running skirt. LOL So, is that common for runners? I have definitely noticed that power walking can get things moving, if you know what I mean. LOL So, I would assume the same with running. I assume there are port-a-potties along the race routes?

Argh....super bummed out right now. So you may recall i've had ankle pain for a while now, plus some pain in the other knee. Well i finally went to the doctor today and was told to take 2 months off running to heal my ankle. I'm so bummed out For my knee i got a steroid shot, and need to wear insoles. Apparently the shoes i got in August were the wrong ones for me and now i'm all broken. I go back 11/24 to see if taking time off helped...

Yoki and elaine - I'm going to check out the Myrtle Beach and Atlanta runs!! MaryPea - I'm so sorry you're "broken" - hope it heals faster that you expect. Maybe Santa will bring you some perfect new shoes for 2015!
