Argh....super bummed out right now. So you may recall i've had ankle pain for a while now, plus some pain in the other knee. Well i finally went to the doctor today and was told to take 2 months off running to heal my ankle. I'm so bummed out For my knee i got a steroid shot, and need to wear insoles. Apparently the shoes i got in August were the wrong ones for me and now i'm all broken. I go back 11/24 to see if taking time off helped... Is there any way you can see a Sports Dr. or Physical Therapist? The reason I say this is that my Gen. Practitioner, Dr. initially told me I'd be laid up for several months after my running injury too. But having a Dr. who knows Sports medicine injuries and with a sound rehab program he had me cross-training, keeping my muscles worked and actually doing something other than just 'rest', had me running and training, some short 5 weeks later. I'm going to be able to run the Army 10 Miler. It won't be great time and I won't be running the whole way, but I'll be there. Way better than my Gen. Pract. told me I'd be doing. Good luck on your rehab!

Guys I'm back. After taking a month off after my 2nd half I started back to running today! It was nice to take a break and not worry about missing a day running.
It's finally getting cooler in the mornings so today it was about 70 degrees and I went out and did a 3 mile run. The first mile was slow but really I just ran without worrying about my pace. I know I can improve and be back to my normal pace soon.
I have a 10k at the beginning of November so that's my goal this month, to get to 6 miles. Shouldn't be too hard since I have lots of time to get there.

Good luck on your rehab! yeah, this is a sports orthopedist....he did say i could do elliptical and stationary bike, but no running or walking. I also got a heel lift (for my achilles) and a steroid shot (for my knee) and those plus the rest seem to help already, so i am hopeful.

That's good you're going to someone who actually knows about sports. Good luck and keep at the rehab.

I ran 8 miles this morning. My body is finally getting re accustomed to running longer than 4 miles at a time. It is amazing to me that even with running 3 days a week consistently, you can get out of half-marathon shape so quickly. This is the first distance run in the past month where I haven't struggled terribly to run that last mile. It is what I needed with the Army 10-miler coming up in less than 2 weeks- this was the last long run I am going to do before that race. Just some 3-4 mile ones during the rest of this week, and the beginning of next.

I'm so happy!!! My goal for today's race was to finish in under 36 minutes (best so far had been like 36:40) - I did my 5K in 35:06 - that's an11:19 mile pace - I've never come close to that!!! I'm geeked! Awesomesauce and congrats!

Ran my Christmas in April 5K race today... Yeah, I know. But no kidding that was the run/walk name. Christmas in April on September 27th, lol. I ran a respectable time of 39:40 considering all things. The race was run along a normally very nice paved trail that is really nice to run on; 10 feet wide in most places. But it was so crowded and 3 miles isn't really much time for the people to break up into comfortable runnin. It made the Disney run seem like there was nothing but room no one was running. It was just too narrow and hard to break out and have room. Still just finishing without any shin/splint pain or any muscle cramps was a HUGE success! Lots of room for improvement on the road back. I'm real happy with my slow(ish) time. Congrats - and I know what you mean by not having enough space to get around people. If people who walked would corral towards the rear of the pack, it would certainly help. No shin/splint pain or muscle cramps is a win in my book!

Here's my race recap: The Ugly: Y'all, this course kicked my butt! Up to mile 8 was clicking along nicely, but then there was a beast of a hill that was just redonkulous. And it kept going & going and all the remaining miles were full of rolling hills. So.Much.Walking! My time was a disaster, but all things considered, I'm calling it a success. So - state #9 is done & now I only have 41 more to go. Thank you for all the good race vibes! You finished, that is all that matters. Definitely can relate to GI distress and glad you finished without any issues. What 9 states have you checked off?

Can you swim instead or do any other activities. Does walking aggravate it (as opposed to running where you are pounding the pavement)?

Neither of which sound appealing, but i'm going to give one of them a try!
