I have been watching more YouTube crafty tutorials. My rant is for those that do close up demonstrations with their hands and their nails are dirty. Yuck!!! Or the one whose smoke alarm probably needed a battery so it was going off at intervals during her video. Or the one who was sitting on her bed and holding her phone to video as she displayed her latest scrappy finds. Or the ones who stumble through their presentation instead of doing a voice over. Ugh!

I really hate dirty nails. And chipped nail varnish...if you're going to take the time to film, at least take the varnish off!

I hate the ones that just sit there talking away for ages before starting to show the LO/haul etc. I'm like come on, show me the goodies rather than just your hands on a cutting mat! I always skip on past to the actual stuff!

All of this. Most of these you tubers seem to think we care about their rambling thoughts. Just get to the business.

I can't stand rambling! More often than not, 20 minute videos could have been no longer than 5!

The other night I was sitting on the couch watching YouTube card making videos while my DH was watching TV. I finally got so exasperated at all of the YouTubers that were sitting there yammering on and on and all the while they were filming their fingers drumming and drumming and drumming on their work surface. We are talking upwards of 10 minutes of drumming. I finally almost shouted “enough already! Just stop!” I startled the dogs and my DH who all looked at me like I was crazy. LOL
I’m also irrationally irritated by YouTube crafters that try to demonstrate a technique with only one hand while they film by holding their cell phone with the other. They all fail miserably, plus it takes 3 times as long to accomplish what should be a quick and easy task.
Clearly I need to stop watching YouTube videos for awhile and remember to be thankful for any and all free content.

I can't watch the ones where it's not filmed above. More from the front so the page looks all lopsided.

As a nail biter, this is another reason why I don't really do videos. I'm sure my nails would bother the hell out of people, but I'm also not going to spend who knows how long fiddling with fake ones just to make them look better. Maybe I could just wear latex gloves, lol.

I have a personal limit of about 20 minutes for a video. I like to watch videos of people’s craft rooms, but when I see that some of them are like 50 minutes long, I pass.

I really detest videos of hauls or unboxing. Just a picture is good enough for me. But if I do click over to YouTube, it never fails, the person pulls out the stack of stuff from a box, then quickly shoved it back in to talk. Like oh wait I wanted to say this before we open anything. No freaking thank you.

You would get a whole different audience if you started doing things with gloves on, I'm sure! 😉😂 Bitten nails wouldn't bother me, as long as they are clean. Show product closeups and I dont care lol.

I have to admit if a video goes in past 15-20 min you have prob lost me. 10-15 is actually better.
And I agree that if your hands are going to be in the video it is really more pleasant when people’s hands are well cared for. I’m talking clean and unchipped polish. Or just no polish. Nail biting does not bother me.
And the rambling can be annoying but I just skip through. I will not give a thumbs up though if the YouTuber rambles. I just move on. Short, entertaining, to the point with no distractions and informational gets a thumbs up from me.

There is someone who makes videos wearing gloves. There's another person who uses a Mickey hand as a pointer. Does anyone know who that is? I saw a video recently that showed two simple homemade embellishments. The video is around 45 minutes. I get that some people are naturally more "wordy" than others but if you have a lot to say try breaking it up over a few different videos, please. I've noticed that some people will leave comments about the videos being too long and then others jump all over them and say the YouTuber should make them as long as they want. Sure, they can make them as long as they want but we can see just from this thread that most would say that 45 minutes is too long for very simple tutorials.

All of this. Most of these you tubers seem to think we care about their rambling thoughts. Just get to the business. "Hi [insert name of whatever allegedly cutesy nickname scrapper has for their followers]! I'm so excited about today's video. This is a line I really wanted to buy and show you. I placed my order on [insert date] and it showed up on my doorstep on [insert date], I think, or maybe it was [insert date], I'm not sure. Ermm. Wait no, it was [insert date] because it was before I received my order from [insert name company]. [giggles] And I was so excited! Getting parcels makes me feel like a kid waking up on Christmas morning. [teehees] Is anyone else like this or is just me? I'm just a total oddball, I know! So, because [scrap product] wasn't in stock when I placed that order, I placed another order on [insert date] from [other retailer] which came on [insert date], I think, or maybe... [insert another ramble to narrow down the exact day the second parcel arrived because it's a very important matter] Anyway, now I've got everything from [scrapbook line that the haul video is supposed to be about] but I also got some other goodies [different scrapbook line which isn't even mentioned in the title] which I'll show first so that's out of the way. It's really cute and I wasn't going to buy it at first but then I saw [insert name of one of her scrappy friends] show some of it on Instagram and I thought I really needed it all of a suden. LOL, does that ever happen to anyone else or is just me? Haha, I'm just like that. That's so me. I'll see someone show something I wasn't going to buy and then I suddenly need to have it myself. I'm such a weirdo!"
*scratches eyeballs* *rips off headphones* I can't see any scrappy products IRL so I rely on haul videos to actually see the product before I place an order. These types of rants are very common. They drive me completely cuckoo. Get. On. With. It.

I don't mind short nails in a video as long as they are clean and neat. Also, don't go noisily through crinkly shopping bags while you are showing what you purchased. Please have it set out and readily available.

If you’re going to film a video please be prepared. Have all the things you need on the table so I don’t have to watch you look through your stash. Close the door so I don’t hear your kids screaming or your husband asking where you put his socks. Focus and stop droning on about your personal life. We really only want to see your technique/demo/haul. YouTubers who have a more professional presentation are the ones who get the subscribers and followers. Rant over.

The only YouTuber I watch (she doesn't do anything on the annoying list) is Sarah Swann... short videos (less than ten minutes most of the time) voice overs, she doesn't dig for stuff, clean nails, not much background noise... and she has her camera on a stand so nothing shakes.

I dislike when the lighting is really really bad. I don’t even watch that many videos, but already I hate when the person says “sorry the lighting is bad but I couldn’t wait to show you what I have today!” and then the shadows practically obscure whatever it is they are showing.

Oh boy... I can go on and on about my pet peeves, but I do give a lot of grace. I make computer based training videos for a living so I know how hard making videos is. I cannot watch people who insert too much of their personal life into the narrative. I don’t need to hear about the entire back story of the picture or about your week. I’d rather hear about why you selected the embellishments, what size the layers are... I also have no tolerance for people who repeat themselves over and over. There are a couple YouTubers that are frequently mentioned here as being favorites and I just don’t get it. They sound like broken records to me.
I do like videos spead up but I want to know how long it actually took to make the card. Not even the pros give out that information and it frustrates me to no end.
I do appreciate everyone’s efforts and bravery for putting themselves out there. I don’t thumbs down or make rude comments. I just don’t subscribe or watch anymore. There are too many great YouTubbers out there to waste my time.

There are too many great YouTubbers out there to waste my time. Some people rattle on and on about their lives before they get to scrapping. It drives me crazy when they are talking like everyone watching is a good friend or already knows about weekly events with little Billy and Gpa or the hospital stay they incurred when a crow landed on their arm. Please, just get to what we are all there for and scrap. My biggest pet peeve is when people are doing a haul and they take each item out of a bag and crinkle the bag over and over. Then they know nothing about the item like how many papers are in the pack and they spend 30 seconds looking for the information. One YouTuber has the most obnoxious sound effects, but she also makes things out of what she purchases and shares them during the haul. She gets bonus points for sharing.
