Ages between 45- 58.
This is a group of single friends, all employed, with decent jobs (law clerk, accountant, mechanic, teachers, factory worker, gov't employee) and education - all have a degree.
No "gag-type" gift. Price about $30.00.
I was thinking about 2 or 3 bottles of wine, with a few wine gadgets and/or chocolate.
Anything else? Last year I gave an assortment of jams & jellys from a local place, with crackers on a wooden platter.
What would YOU like to get at a Christmas Present Exchange?

We have a local place that makes amazing chocolates. I would do something along that lines just in case someone doesn't drink wine.

bottle of vodka or whiskey. is it a white elephant type thing where people steal gifts?
olive wood cheeseboard/wooden spoons. (home goods) i would think anyone would like/could use these.
chocolate is always good.
wine would be good for many, but not for me.
basket of craft beers.
gc to a fun new place.
bottle of tequila/ margarita kit.
once i went to a party and the snuggie was the most wanted gift.
starbucks basket with cups and coffee/hot chocolate.
bunch of k-cups.
bags of yummy coffee.
toddy cold brew maker.
mini bundt pans and cake doctor cookbook.
someone once brought a giant basket of lemons from their tree to an exchange and someone was super excited to get it.
bottle of bailey's.

Movie passes, Amazon or iTunes gift card, good chocolate. ETA: A Kohl’s throw or one from Costco.
I wouldn’t give alcohol simply because there are many people who don’t drink, can’t drink or really shouldn’t drink for lots of reasons.
I also vote no to coffee, coffee gift cards, coffee mugs, cheap candy, tins of popcorn, Christmas ornaments, candles (especially scented ones) or scented soaps.

I vote a huge no to the throw. I have so many blankets that I have nowhere to put another one.
If they drive, an emergency kit with a hat, leather gloves, and an emergency type blanket. A friend makes a zippered pouch that these will fit in. It looks like a nice pillow.

power banks? You can find some really pretty ones on Etsy. We've gotten Omaha Steaks before, which were really good. There's a smokehouse that does an assorted meat and cheese basket that was really good. Etsy options

I do local baskets when I have something like this to give for. I find local products and put them all together and wrap it up. It usually a big hit. I’ve done a local micro brew gift pack Local micro distillery gift pack A NJ wine gift pack A local personal products gift pack ( lots of farms make things like soaps & lip gloss and hand cream now ) Local activity passes gift pack
Go local to you again you’ll find lots of stuff I’m sure

I would love to get movie passes or an amazon gift card or a restaurant gift card to some new local place.
I don't drink wine or anything so that wouldn't be good.

if it is a white elephant exchange where people steal gifts, then it doesn't have to be something EVERYONE would like. it only needs to appeal to a few people. so all the ideas that people are nixing ... i am sure they would be fine for SOME people, just not ALL people.
i go to an ornament exchange. it is hard for me to pick out something that everyone would like. i just usually pick out something that **I** like and i know that appeals to at least a few people. i don't want a waterford ornament, but some people do.

One of those reverse opening umbrellas or an auto open/auto close umbrella. I never mind having an extra - I keep one at work, we have 2 in each car plus they get wind blown, forgotten, lent out.

Since this is a group of friends, you know whether wine would be well received. Personally, I rather get one better quality bottle of wine than 2-3 bottles. Something I wouldn't necessarily splurge on for myself. A portable charger and cell phone speaker/amplifier is another idea. A journal and pen or pen set like my favorite Staedlers. I love to check out Uncommon Goods for unique gift ideas. These posters caught my eye: 100 Iconic Movies Bucket List and 100 Iconic Books Bucket List.

- Upscale s'mores kit with gourmet chocolate and marshmallows and gingerbread cookies or gingersnaps instead of graham crackers - cheeseboard with GC to yummy cheese place or set of cheese knives - chocolates paired to go with a couple bottles of wine - a lovely ornament - possibly like a silver bell or something, possibly engraved with "2018 exchange" or some sort of commemorative thing - a nice soft throw, I'm thinking maybe like one of those sweater-knit ones wouldn't be overly girly

I would want something interesting, something I don't have, something I could do or learn from.
After thinking about it, I'd probably put together a "survival" kit with a small pocket survival book (bathroom material lol), waterproof matches, a survival blanket ($1), pocket mirror for signaling, fishing line, paracord, one of those wallet multitools, maybe an airline bottle of whiskey for fun. I'm sure there's other small stuff you could add that's detailed in the mini book.
I'd probably trade for it at a party because I'd think it was worth putting it all into a ziploc bag for my car! I love wine, cheeses, and chocolates, but there's just so much of it during the holidays that I may just want something new!

A Penzey's spice gift box, unless it's too politically sensitive for your group. Some people don't cook enough to justify the gift.

At our office party people go crazy for lottery tickets- the scratch off kind. Never in a million years would I have thought that, but last year it was more popular than the alcohol.

I've participated in gift exchanges before, where you can open a gift or take someone's already opened gift. Usually a $25-ish range.
Some of the items the were popular were.... Mini paper shredder(<< this was the most popular gift). Gift bag full of packaged batteries "AA" "AAA" "D". Tool kit. Gift wrap organizer. Restaurant gift cards. Fondue set. Hand held massager. Gift card for hour long foot massage. Thermos and mini individual cooler. Scratch off lottery tickets. Bento box lunch containers. Smaller sized fire proof safe.

A Penzey's spice gift box, unless it's too politically sensitive for your group. Some people don't cook enough to justify the gift. True. Strangely, I don't like to cook. At all. I do it for survival purposes. I suggested it because she asked what we would like and I thought I would find it motivating to try out some new flavors. They have also offered specific boxes for grilling or salad dressing or tacos/salsa. My true wish would be for a Powell's Books gift card, but I know that doesn't have universal appeal either.

Grubhub gift card, with a bucket of microwave popcorn, and a $5 bill tied to it with a note that it's for a movie rental. Everyone needs delivery once in a while, and if they don't like the at home date night idea, they can toss the popcorn, and pocket the $5.

My family does a white elephant type exchange. I think we need to revisit the rules because some of us take it more seriously than others. (Also, I think we're all over the stealing business, because there was almost none of that last year...) We nixed gift cards because we didn't want it to turn into a gift card exchange. Lotto tickets are popular, but surprisingly few and far between. Last year's gifts included a drone, a nice set of steak knives, a travel blanket/pillow combo. Some things I put in (and took out) of my Amazon cart for this year include: a bamboo cutting board/utensil seta single can mini fridgean infusion water bottlethese air plantssome reusable, foldable grocery bags
