Senior pictures aren't just about the senior. They are very expensive and as a parent, if my kid pulled what yours did, Id offer to cancel the session until she is ready to do it right.

I'm glad to see a good update, OP.
My senior is extremely self conscious due to a large weight gain over the past two years, and depression.
Absolutely refuses to have a real photographer do a senior picture shoot.
We've made a compromise. All through senior year I will do little mini shoots with her, on days she feels her best. Days she gets out of pjs, showers, and dolls herself up, the way she used to when she felt her best.
We did one shoot so far, with Autumn leaves in the background. I got two I really liked from it, including one that shows off her new nose piercing.
I'm hoping for a good shot from each season, and a cap and gown shot.
I just wish I was a better photographer, and had a better camera.

It might be worth it to try this approach with him as well. My sis takes pretty good photos. I'm sure I can get her on board with this plan. Thank you for the idea and I hope your DD ends up with pictures she feels beautiful in.

She had a great HS experience, but was going out of state for school. Then immediately regretted it, but it was too late to apply to the schools she wanted. But she really drug her feet with graduation milestones. I ended up getting some great photos of her, but it was rough! (She's a sophomore now and has found a great group of friends. Some HS friends she has stayed in touch with, but the friend she really wanted to stay in VA for drifted away and by Christmas they only saw each other twice in 3 weeks.)

Parenting teenagers is f&%$ing hard work! My oldest was a dream until his senior year. Then I couldn't wait for him to leave. He pushed back on everything. Now, he is a lovely adult again. I think they just need to challenge every little thing at that age to prove they are "adults".
For what it's worth, my youngest hated and still hates having his picture taking. In every photo, he looks like Chandler Bing in his engagement photos. He fights having to dress nice for them as well. But his senior portraits turned out amazing. Seriously, despite my bias, every single one was perfect. So I hope your day goes well and your DD has fun.

Great update. I genuinely think that young people, when they behave this way, aren't trying to be jerks. Thry just genuinely don't get why some things are significant to us. And. Of course, sometimes they're ambivalent about the milestone itself, so they're avoidant around the important events to mark the life changes. I confess, in the spirit of getting a shot that truly reflects who she is now, I'd let her do a few shots with the crazy eye makeup, if there's time. Merge

Ain’t nobody got time for that! I would use the power of my checking account and take her to buy a new outfit. 😛 Motivate through bribery is acceptable when I am paying $$$ for senior pics. Jen Yep, that’s exactly what happened! LOL Spending is a teenage girl’s love language. This is why you are my favorite peas, you are brilliant! Jen

I have my girls portraits on the wall. They were THE most annoying creatures on earth until it was time for my son's pictures. Then he was so annoying.
Why is this so hard?
I ended up with good pictures and the outfits didn't really matter in the end as I chose close up pictures for the wall hangings.
I will say that I remind them often that they were boobs. They think that is hugely funny now.

My 2 teens fought every step of the way about senior photos. Reluctantly agreed when the school sent an ultimatum that they wouldn't be in the yearbook (DS said he didn't care about that either). So they went for the free photo session with the photographer at school , decided they hated all the photos and told me not to order them. They did pick the "best of the bad photos" to go into the yearbook. (This was the same thing that my oldest DD did). The pictures I have hanging on the wall are from 10 years ago when they were little cuties who were excited to get pictures taken.
I agree with the prior poster who said she's taking photos on her own. My kids aren't putting up with posed photos but we have lots of others.

Thanks again all! Picture session went well and I feel confident we’ll come out with some good shots. Here she is making a face at me while the photographer switches cameras. 😂

Your daughter has beautiful hair! I can understand why you wanted her to let it dry naturally. I love the dress she is wearing, but don't tell her some 58 year old lady said that, or she'll totally rethink her choice.

Yeah I just smiled and didn’t say too much about her choices, but they turned out pretty well. She wore that dress with a pair of black menswear looking loafers, and her more casual outfit was a coral top with blue jeans and her black Doc Martens. Very “her,” but still cute and flattering.

I think they just need to challenge every little thing at that age to prove they are "adults". I’m convinced that teenagers have to be that way so that parents kick them out of the house for college or work. We bond with them when they are adorable kids. Then they become teens and drive us absolutely crazy. Then they grow up and mature so we bond with them again. Then some of them have kids of their own so we can laugh that they deal with the same thing. I’m convinced that the only way we have survived as a species is because we are cute when we are kids and we become tolerable again as young adults. Otherwise, we’d never make it past the first generation of teenagers.

I did my son’s portraits. They are really good, BUT guess what we could not use any of them of the yearbook. I hate the one in the yearbook , it’s black and white and it doesn’t look like him. But we only had an hour to get.
My daughter was a model so her photos were free and she wore what the photographer wanted.

Aarghh...teens. I would not go back to parenting teens for anything. I was happy to see your update. I'd take a teen over a toddler any day! I guess they are pretty similar.
