Red in honor of Russia?
What does red mean in Russia? The brightest color in the Russian language, and the one that has most positive connotations, is the color red. The word "red" in Russian (krasny) has the same root as the word "beautiful" (krasivy), and the meanings of these two words are indeed very close. Moscow's main square is called Red Square

haha!! I just remembered-- on Chris Hayes' program on MSNBC, he always does a segment entitled 'thing one and thing two.' Last night's *thing 1* was the WH Christmas decorations... and *thing 2* was how good the video of the decorations goes with the music from the movie The Shining!! LOL!!

I don't know if anyone has said this yet, but the "Be Best" reminds me so much of "Praise Be." Ugh.

I hate that shade of red against that shade of green carpet. The trees are berries and just too heavy and blah IMHO. Even a little open branches, a fairy lights, twigs, white or green foliage would have helped lighten this look. I can't even respond to the bebest wreaths. Seriously. Can a bitch get some twinkle lights in that hallway? THIS IS NOT HARD, PEOPLE. THIS IS WHY I LOVE YOU GUYS SO MUCH. RIGHT HERE.

Didn't like the red trees or the Be Best wreath, but I thought the rest was very tasteful and pretty.

I like the cityscapes. They appear to be laser cut wood to me, but someone above mentioned gold, so I'm not sure. At any rate, I think they are interesting and different. I also thought they looked like laser cut wood. I really like them!

I also thought they looked like laser cut wood. I really like them! They look nice enough, but I don't see how they are Christmas decorations...since when is a skyline a "Christmas" thing?

The paper plan of the red trees they show on the video looks OK. In reality those trees are far out of proportion to the size and width of the hallway. If they were half the size they are and placed further apart they would probably look OK. The rest of the house looks quite pretty except for the pencil wreath and the be best bauble, doesn't fit in at all IMO.

That BeBest bauble is pretty crass. I bet it was removed immediately after it was photographed.

So, I got curious about what city was highlighted in the skyline. Turns out, the "mantelpieces feature the skylines of Chicago, New York City, St. Louis and San Francisco." I suppose it's a nod to acknowledging more of the USA, but as was pointed out, it's not particularly "Christmassy."

I suppose it's a nod to acknowledging more of the USA, but as was pointed out, it's not particularly "Christmassy." Lots of people have Christmas villages. With the right festive doo-dads surrounding the skylines, I see them as a version of that decorating tradition, i.e. representations of architecture and community “dressed” for the holidays. Me likey. (Of course, I’d be lying if I didn’t admit I’m now chuckling at how very deeply “blue” at least three of those cities are. Downright indigo blue...maybe navy blue. The People’s House, indeed.)

Ok, I finally watched the video. There is no way in hell children made that wreath as people have speculated, it is just a pathetic excuse for them to incorporate Melania’s faux platform. That Be Best ornament is a joke as well, and I bet it wasn’t on the tree any longer then the shot took to take.
The coat without the arms things is the female equivalent of a man wearing his sunglasses on the back of his head. I hate it and seeing someone like that pretty much tells me all I need to know about them.
Love the memes with the muppet trees.

I really like the decorations they used this year. Even the Be Best items and red trees. Why not the red trees to honor those who shed the blood and gave their lives to protect and serve this country and the people there in. I don't even think the Be Best slogan is to bad, its a simple version of Be Outstanding, Be Great, Be Better. And having the wreath and ornament honors the children. So it all isn't perfect and smooth, and with that absolute decorator perfection. It's homey and unique and much better than some of the stuff in the past.
