It's December and time to start thinking about holiday baking and making. I had decided that I would not make my annual Christmas Trash this year as we are all cutting back on sweets and calories. Then DD announces on Friday that it has been requested by her whole department for their potluck lunch on the 19th. Also there are two co-workers who have requested their own take home bags! This stuff is like crack so I get it. Will be making that after all but will make DD come over and do the bagging of it all.
I've also decided to dust off my grandmother's cookie recipe that I haven't used in almost 10 years. It's a version of an oatmeal cookie that is to die for, but makes between 8-10 dozen cookies. So not WeightWatchers friendly, but oh so good! My plan is to keep a few for us and then send the rest to DD's and DH's offices. I have discovered that I can get in my baking fix, yet spread the calories around. Apparently none of their co-workers are Peas because the sweets are welcomed and disappears in record time!
What is everyone else planning to bake/make? Recipes are always welcome!

This is the cookie recipe. My grandmother named them Aggression Cookies because it's a huge batch that is mixed by hand. She said by the time you finished baking you had worked out all of your aggressions! GRANDMA'S AGGRESSION COOKIES 3 cups Brown Sugar 3 cups Butter 6 cups Oatmeal, old-fashioned 1 tablespoon Baking Soda 3 cups Flour • Put all ingredients into large bowl. Mix with your hands, mashing and kneading until mixed well. • Make small balls of dough and place on ungreased cookie sheet. • Flatten the cookies with the bottom of a glass that has been dipped in sugar. Dip in sugar before each cookie or the cookies will stick and fall apart. • Bake at 350 F for 8-10 minutes. Makes: A Whole Bunch! Depending on the size of your cookies, makes between 8 and 10 dozen cookies. Notes: I find it goes a bit quicker if you cream the sugar and butter together, then add to the dry ingredients which have been mixed. This is a great recipe for the younger kids to help with! No mixers involved and they can dig in with their hands to mix!

I consider myself a good cook, but only a fair baker, at best.
Nevertheless, I will make sugar cookies as usual. I use Martha Stewart's recipe. My daughter and I cut them in shapes and then decorate them after they bake and cool. Neither one of us is very good at the decorating, but we always have a good time.
My husband and daughter have a tradition of always making huge batches of chex mix. My son and I have a tradition of eating it!
My husband also makes an absolutely beautiful white chocolate bark with dried fruit and candies. It tastes delicious as well.

My version of Christmas Trash. I've been making this since the 1980's and it never fails to be a hit.
Christmas Trash
1 box each Rice, Corn & Wheat Chex cereal 1 large jar Dry Roasted Peanuts 2 bags M&M’s plain (red & green holiday bag) 1 large bag Pretzels, thin stick variety 2 packages Almond Bark
1. Mix cereal, peanuts, M&M’s and pretzels in a very large bowl. Set aside. 2. Melt almond bark slowly. If using a microwave, heat for 30 second intervals, stirring each time. Be careful not to scorch the almond bark. 3. Pour the melted almond bark over the dry mix, stirring well with a rubber spatula until it is all thoroughly coated. 4. Spread mixture out parchment paper or foil and allow to dry. I like to put the trays in a cold oven to dry. Once dry, break mixture up and put in storage containers.
ETA: If you leave out the Wheat Chex and buy gluten free pretzels (we like Glutino brand), then this can be a gluten free treat.

I'm still in debate mode since I don't know how many family members I'm having for the holidays. I did make my sugar cookie dough this morning and stuck it in the freezer. Chocolate chip cookies are a must, my DH considers it grounds for divorce if he doesn't have them at Christmas.

I’m trying to eat low carb and no sugar, so that really cuts into my baking! I’m probably just going to do some different types of chocolate covered pretzels. The kids and hubby love them and it’s something I don’t care about! I cannot make my normal fudge and caramels because that would not be good to have around for me.

I’ll make Bon Appetit’s Simple Christmas Cookies with my niece and nephews. They whip up in the food processor with cold butter, so you don’t have to wait for the butter to soften. Easy to cut out and really tender and flavorful. Peanut butter blossoms
Cranberry Bliss Bars for Rob I’ll also make some white chocolate covered pretzel crisps —I love Ghirardelli white chocolate chips with a little coconut oil to thin it out. I also melt a little white chocolate and did pretzels in it while it’s still warm for a snack.

I always make christmas fruit cake.. dad's family recipe.. dark. lots of dried fruit .. my dad eats one slice a day.. then probably peanut butter cookies. and more pumpkin pies at christmas. apple betty is this week. I just made squash muffins

Dh suggested I make a chocolate cake for my Mother for Christmas as she has recently become addicted to somewhat fancy cakes she finds in the deli section of the grocery store. I have a good chocolate cake recipe. I've been watching videos, Great British Baking Show and Craftsy classes to figure out what layers and toppings I want to add to my basic chocolate cake. I'll put in some chocolate mousse and probably top with ganache. Deciding whether I want to add a flavor like raspberry to the cake.
We have two parties to go to that require bringing something and they are both the same weekend. I think I'm going to do breads and salad this year since both gatherings have been light on those. I have an honey oatmeal roll recipe that everyone loves and it makes a bunch.
I've decided not to do my annual cheeseball recipe this year because I'm the one who eats most of it. I love it but don't need it.

I have an honey oatmeal roll recipe Would love to have this recipe if you are willing to share! Sounds good. Do you use the larger size cereal boxes or the smaller sized boxes? I usually buy the 18 oz (family size) box. But the beauty of this recipe is that you can adjust it to your own tastes and needs. If you use the smaller boxes, just add more pretzels or candy, or you can cut back a little on the almond bark.

I don’t know, but since I bought not one but two bags of crushed candy canes at Michaels yesterday (buy one, get one 50% off ... I’m an idiot), it will be something topped with crushed candy canes! My DD made me buy a bag to put on top of some of the Mini Chocolate Thumbprint cookies I posted on the other thread. She and DH both said they were good like that, I haven’t tried one myself yet though. To answer the OP’s question, I made powdered sugar cookies, molasses chewies and the chocolate thumbprints yesterday. My brother made pecan tassies. Today we made funfetti cutout cookies, starlight sugar crisps, old fashioned iced oatmeal cookies, and almond triangles. We may or may not be done yet, I still have a couple I might try to knock out next weekend.

I haven't made fruitcake in several years, so I'm thinking about making that and trying a new recipe for it (from the King Arthur flour site.) My mom's extended family is doing a Pennsylvania Dutch theme for their Christmas potluck. I'm not quite sure what that will look like, but it made me think of the pfeffernusse (peppernuts) my grandma used to bake sometimes. These aren't the puffy soft pfeffernusse you sometimes see, but small crunchy bites with lots of spices. The recipes tend to come from German and Russian Mennonites. They need to be baked several weeks before you want to eat them so the spices can ripen, so I think I might try bother the fruitcake and the pfeffernusse this week sometime. I probably should have done them in November! I just haven't been in a holiday mood, enjoying fall too much! Here's the fruitcake recipe: Everyone's Favorite FruitcakeI found a few different pfeffernusse recipes and none of them sound quite like what Grandma made, but I think I might try this one and make two different batches, one flavored with anise and the other flavored with cardamom. Pfeffernusse are a thing where everyone has their own preferred spice blend. I'm looking forward to playing with it. Pfeffernusse

I am going to a cookie exchange and need to make 6 dozen cookies.
I am making peanut butter bliss drop cookies. Our local coffee shop sells the bars for $5 a bar (size of a Hershey bar) and my school team shares one during planning every now and then.
I found the recipe and did a test run tonight-and I think I nailed it! Peanut butter White chocolate Rice Krispies Marshmallows Mini chocolate morsels.
That’s it! No bake and the batch I made today made 49 decent sized cookies so this may be the easiest year yet 👍🏼

Here’s a link to THE RECIPE , I can’t remember who started the thread the other day but someone was looking for a good recipe to make for a cookie exchange so I shared this one. My family LOVES them and requests them every year. Usually I put colored nonpareils on the top to make them look fun and festive, but this year DD insisted we experiment with the crushed candy canes so we did that for half. One other thing I forgot to mention on the other thread (I’ll have to go back and ETA) is that it’s helpful to double the chocolate glaze recipe right off the bat because if you’re like me there’s no way you’re only going to put a half teaspoon on each cookie. No.Way. I would end up running out and having to make more every time, so this year I actually doubled the cookie recipe and tripled the glaze and it turned out perfect. I found these at a reduced price on Zulily, so I’m going to try them with gingerbread and sugar cookie dough, topped with a thin glaze or an edible shimmer powder. I’ll also make almond cookies made with Amaretto and almond meal instead of flour, because they're so well received. I’m not sure about the rest. I found a tropical bark made with dried pineapple and mango I may try. I’m also feeling peppermint this year, so maybe a chocolate peppermint something. And I usually make some type of boozy balls.
