NPR...
”President Trump today denied reports over the weekend that he hid details about his meetings with Russia's president: “Not only did I never work for Russia but I think it’s a disgrace that you ask that question because it’s a big fat hoax.”
Again, he has told some many verifiable lies, how can the American People believe what he says?
Good response to trump’s claim.
”Maybe he never "worked for" Russia, I'll buy that.
What about working with Russia?
Or in conjunction with Russia?
Or benefiting from Russia destabilizing the United States?”

The effort was led by several county Republicans who argued that Dr Shafi was more loyal to Islam than the US. They might be interested in knowing that there is someone in the government who appears to be more loyal to Russia than the US. I'm guessing they're ignoring that one. In OUR government! Fortunately Dr Shafi was supported by many more and still holds his position!!

linkThis is is a real piece of work the president is quoting. From the Pat Buchanan column trump tweeted from. “Trump should declare a national emergency, shift funds out of the Pentagon, build his wall, open the government and charge Democrats with finding excuses not to secure our border because they have a demographic and ideological interest in changing the face of the nation. For the larger the share of the U.S. population that requires welfare, the greater the need for more social workers, and the more voters there will be to vote to further grow the liberal welfare state. The more multiracial, multiethnic, multicultural, multilingual America becomes — the less it looks like Ronald Reagan's America — the more dependably Democratic it will become. The Democratic Party is hostile to white men, because the smaller the share of the U.S. population that white men become, the sooner that Democrats inherit the national estate. The only way to greater "diversity," the golden calf of the Democratic Party, is to increase the number of women, African-Americans, Asians and Hispanics, and thereby reduce the number of white men. The decisive issues on which Trump was elected were not the old Republican litany of tax cuts, conservative judges and increased defense spending. They were securing the borders, extricating America from foolish wars, eliminating trade deficits with NAFTA nations, the EU and China, making allies pay their fair share of the common defense, resurrecting our manufacturing base, and getting along with Russia. "America First!" is still a winning hand.“ I guess he kind of forgot about all the white people who are also on various forms of welfare, like those hopelessly addicted to meth, opiates, alcohol, etc. and who are unable to maintain long term employment? Or how about all the rich white people enjoying the benefits of corporate welfare in the form of tax cuts, etc.? Welfare is welfare no matter what form it comes in. But I guess none of that counts in their narrative. ETA: FWIW, I’m not against helping anyone who needs help, but my point is that none of those people came across the southern border.

Wow. Since Steve King got no censure - not even a negative comment - for declaring himself a white nationalist, I guess they're not even going to try to hide the racism anymore. So much is now very out in the public today! Kevin McCarthy, minority Leader in the House, has stated they will be taking action by the full House. "Action will be taken!" The Democratic Party is hostile to white men Nah, just OLD white GOP men!!

Short and to the point, but oh so true.
WhoWhatWhy
“ WHY TRUMP WON’T BACK DOWN ON SHUTDOWN”
“Most — if not all — presidents ran for office because they thought they could run the country better than the other candidates. And running the country means being in charge of the US government. It implies some regard for the institution that would be paying their salary.
But Donald Trump never really considered the presidency to be a job. It was just a vehicle to gain the most attention from adoring crowds, obtain the best perks, maximize his brand, and hold the greatest power.
Running the country was a just an unpleasant side effect, requiring attention to briefing papers, attendance at boring meetings, and visiting cemeteries.
All his life, Trump has turned his back on government, declining to serve it in the armed forces, to follow its laws when they lowered his profits, to pay taxes to fund it, and even to speak well of it.
He lives in the kingdom of the gated community and the lush golf course, which could be anywhere or nowhere. He welcomed Russian oligarchs, Saudi princes, and mobsters to Trump Tower. The lingua franca of this kingdom is wealth and all its trappings. Nothing else matters.
All his talk of America First really is Trump First. He has no understanding of this country, its history, or its values.
So it’s not surprising that a shutdown doesn’t trouble him. He shut down on government and country a long time ago.”

Good to see this attempt to oust a man because of his religion failed. www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-46841814A Republican county official in Texas has survived a vote to oust him after several local party members took issue with his Muslim religion.
The motion to remove Shahid Shafi from his position as vice chairman of the Tarrant County Republican party failed by a vote of 139-49 on Thursday night.
The effort was led by several county Republicans who argued that Dr Shafi was more loyal to Islam than the US.
I'm sure the 49 that voted against him would be quite happy to accept his medical intervention if they ever needed it and he was the only surgeon able to save their lives! Yes, because disagreeing with someone's political policies is exactly the same as doing whatever it takes to save your life.

Joyce Alene...
”I’m perplexed by the narrative Trump & his supporters are now pursuing, that he is tougher on Russia than Obama was (because of sanctions). Trump only imposed sanctions because a bipartisan congress passed them & even then, he delayed months beyond the deadline.”
And he is in the process of lifting some of those sanctions.

The Democratic Party is hostile to white men, because the smaller the share of the U.S. population that white men become, the sooner that Democrats inherit the national estate. Just what exactly IS this 'national estate' that we apparently will be inheriting? Seeing the way things are going with the Republicans in charge the last two years, I'm not sure I want it, whatever it means. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- switching gears to @fred's story about automation replacing hospitality service workers: We spent Saturday afternoon at a local bar / eatery having lunch and playing darts. The 'thing' about this restaurant is that they have a serve-yourself selection of >40 beers on tap-- you get a bracelet with a chip in it that gets activated by your server, you wave it in front of the tap for the beer you want, and you pour your own. The system keeps track of how many ounces you pour, and each beer has a 'per ounce' price posted. It's cool that they have so many different beers (and ciders!) on tap, and it's sort of neat that you don't have to WAIT for a server, but apparently it's also cut on the number of servers they need to hire. They had just ONE server handling the entire place on a Saturday afternoon. and what he JUST said about Elizabeth Warren?? Despicable!! When people were UP.IN.ARMS about President Obama wearing a TAN SUIT, and his wife wearing SHORTS on Air Force 1, then THIS MAN should NOT get a pass on the disgusting, totally reprehensible things he says DAILY about EVERYONE-- someone really needs to tell him he is the President (blech) for ALL of us, not just his 'precious base' of MAGA-hat wearing yokels.

Washington (CNN)Attorney General nominee William Barr said that, if confirmed, he would let special counsel Robert Mueller finish his investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election and believes the results should be made public. "On my watch, Bob will be allowed to complete his work," Barr intends to say to Congress at the start of his Senate hearing Tuesday, according to prepared testimony released on Monday.
"I believe it is in the best interest of everyone -- the President, Congress, and, most importantly, the American people -- that this matter be resolved by allowing the special counsel to complete his work," he will say. "The country needs a credible resolution of these issues. If confirmed, I will not permit partisan politics, personal interests, or any other improper consideration to interfere with this or any other investigation." ** www.cnn.com/2019/01/14/politics/william-barr-mueller/index.html

Can we oust people who are “more loyal to some special version of ‘christianity’ than to the US”? The ones who pick & choose which bible verses are fact and which should be ignored

"There is an incredible divide between Washington and the rest of the country when it comes to Bob Mueller and the Russia investigation," Cruz said on NBC's "Meet the Press." "The mainstream media, Washington, is obsessed with it. And when you get outside the Beltway, I don't find anybody concerned with this at all." Oh, well, if nobody cares, then that means no investigation is necessary and no laws were broken. Easy peasy.

No, I don’t think it’s either of those two as they are not owned by any government. Alpha bank is a Russian bank but it is a private corporation. If it is a bank it is more likely to be VTB which is government owned and under sanctions by the US, Canada and the EU. Is Trump involved, business wise, with a bank that is under sanction since 2014 following the Ukraine crisis? I’m sure he is.

They didn't disagree with his politics - they're all Republicans. They simply didn't like that he's Muslim. Because of how they think it would affect his policies. Nope. Wrong again. “As the meeting gathered Thursday night, one of his chief critics, Sara Legvold, former member of the Texas State Republican Executive Committee, stood outside dressed in a the lobby wearing a black burqa to underscore her opposition to Shafi's appointment. “You already see it in the workplace where Muslims demand they’re able to wear their hijab and demand they get a prayer room,” she said, according to the Texas Tribune. “When was the last time a Christian was allowed to have a separate place to say their prayers?"” (USA Today) It was solely because he is Muslim. One just has to read to see that religion what it was all about—because there is ZERO evidence that there was any political discord whatsoever. “Republican officials in Texas on Thursday night voted down an effort to oust a local party leader because he is Muslim.” ^^^starts off pretty much every article written about it. A conservative faction of the Republican Party didn’t like that his religion is Muslim. Period.

”Also from Quinnipiac:
Did Trump's recent televised address to the nation change your mind about building a wall along the border with Mexico, or not?
Yes: 2% (not a typo)
No: 89%”
Which still means the majority of Americans don’t want trump’s wall.
