A conservative faction of the Republican Party didn’t like that his religion is Muslim. Period. They don't like anyone who looks different than them.

So much for being OK with immigrants who go through the legal process. Today, Trump actually mocked those who show up for their asylum hearings and said they're "not very smart."

Because of how they think it would affect his policies. ummm... we don't have a government-sanctioned religion, last I knew. His policies are REPUBLICAN, are they not? I guess he’s one of those RINO s the far right are always complaining about. I get that some people take on a political party for benefits during an election ( Bernie ) but the far right calls any half moderate logical republican a RINO including McCain multiple times. It’s so weird that the far far right controls so much of the Republucan party and are so loud and vocal and trying to push out any moderate republican or even any republican who puts party over country. Yet the Democrats HAD a DINO ( Democrat in name only ) who is father left than most of the party except maybe AOC. And none of them really called him out on it. And certainly the far far left does not control the Democratic Party or Bernie would be President

Because of how they think it would affect his policies. Nope. Wrong again. “As the meeting gathered Thursday night, one of his chief critics, Sara Legvold, former member of the Texas State Republican Executive Committee, stood outside dressed in a the lobby wearing a black burqa to underscore her opposition to Shafi's appointment. “You already see it in the workplace where Muslims demand they’re able to wear their hijab and demand they get a prayer room,” she said, according to the Texas Tribune. “When was the last time a Christian was allowed to have a separate place to say their prayers?"” (USA Today) It was solely because he is Muslim. One just has to read to see that religion what it was all about—because there is ZERO evidence that there was any political discord whatsoever. “Republican officials in Texas on Thursday night voted down an effort to oust a local party leader because he is Muslim.” ^^^starts off pretty much every article written about it. A conservative faction of the Republican Party didn’t like that his religion is Muslim. Period. This is correct. I've been following this pretty closely (local as it is my state) and I agree with papercrafteradvocate it was solely because he was Muslim.

Ive been having a difficult time finding the non bigoted factions in the Republican Party lately That’s why I’ve runaway from Republicans. And thier attack ads at the mid terms sealed the deal. I really can not stand Bob Menendez and I had never once before voted for him ever. I toyed with the idea of voting Bob Hugin and then he ran that ‘All Democrats on any or el are BAD- want open borders with criminals pouring in and OMG they’ll vote Nancy Pelosi speaker if the house- bull shit ad and I was like, nope can’t do it. I just love when candidates own ads turn me off voting for them. When they show you who they are-believe them. But now I’ve gotta live with Menendez for Senator the full term and I don’t like that much either. I think the election in 2016 taught me quite a lot. First due to my 3 decade long grudge against Trump there is no way I’d ever vote for him in any way. So I HAD to go look at other candidates sites & platforms even in the primaries. I, despite my dislike of Hillary, found her platform and points to be the most well thought out and detailed than any other candidate. She had a complete plan to re-educate & train people from areas where they depended heavily on dying industries. The same areas that voted for Trump - whose website was the most word salad - spin words - key phrases I’d ever tried to read - he had NO plan for anything just me I’m the best I’ll fix stuff. I spent 2016 teaching my children to investigate candidates for themselves - not telling them what I thought. And I just sit here day after day thinking how stupid are ‘We’ ( collective general we ) Each day it’s a new shit show and I just can’t anymore. .

Good to see this attempt to oust a man because of his religion failed. www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-46841814A Republican county official in Texas has survived a vote to oust him after several local party members took issue with his Muslim religion.
The motion to remove Shahid Shafi from his position as vice chairman of the Tarrant County Republican party failed by a vote of 139-49 on Thursday night.
The effort was led by several county Republicans who argued that Dr Shafi was more loyal to Islam than the US.
I await the bipartisan initiative to unseat lower court judges who are Christian, especially Catholic and Evangelical Protestant, because they will flout case law by not applying Roe v. Wade in relevant rulings. Being more loyal to Jesus than the United States, of course. Sure doesn’t seem like almost 60 years has passed since people were in a lather that JFK was a “papist” who would take all his orders directly from the pope.

trump..
“For decades, politicians promised to secure the border, fix our trade deals, bring back our factories, get tough on China, move the Embassy to Jerusalem, make NATO pay their fair share, and so much else - only to do NOTHING (or worse)....”
”I am doing exactly what I pledged to do, and what I was elected to do by the citizens of our great Country. Just as I promised, I am fighting for YOU!”
This the problem with today’s electoral college, he can’t claim that he has a mandate because more people voted against him then for him.
At some point this country is going to have to come to terms that the electoral college is not working the way it was envisioned by the Founding Fathers and will either have to chuck it to a one person/one vote system or fix it. And I’m not sure they can fix it.
Because we can’t keep “electing” presidents who lose the popular vote.

MSNBC: Kevin McCarthy states GOP steering committee of the House has stripped Rep Steve King of ALL committee seats! I just saw a clip of Trump being asked about this situation. First he acted like he didn’t know who the guy was. Then he said he “hadn’t been following it”. So a congressman makes public white supremacy comments and the president doesn’t even know it?

We all need to remember that a significant chunk of the current GOP are dominionists - they believe it is their imperative to bring the US under Christian rule. Dominionism is alive and well here in Texas, unfortunately - and was probably behind the desire of those 49 people to remove a Muslim from office.

Kyle Griffin...
“Mitt Romney says that Steve King should "absolutely" resign.
"He doesn't have a place in our party, he doesn't have a place in polite company and certainly should not have a place in Congress."
What about the guy in The Oval Office? Shouldn’t he resign?

So a congressman makes public white supremacy comments and the president doesn’t even know it? Actually a congressman from his own party, who he campaigned for heavily. But he seems to know all the details of Jeff Bezos' (Amazon/WaPo) divorce according to his twitter. He pays attention to selective details only.

“Mitt Romney says that Steve King should "absolutely" resign. "He doesn't have a place in our party, he doesn't have a place in polite company and certainly should not have a place in Congress." Mitt was a big supporter of Steve King, stating that he looked forward to working with him on mutual goals in the upcoming (current) session of Congress. So only supportive when it is politically expedient. I understand know how that term 'politically expedient' developed.
