Trump’s Border Wall Land Grab Makes No Sense for Conservatives Who Hate Eminent DomainTrump has a long history of loving the government seizing private land. STEPHANIE MENCIMER JANUARY 11, 2019 2:20 PM ** Ilya Somin, a law professor at George Mason University’s Scalia Law School and an adjunct scholar at the Cato Institute, a libertarian think tank, believes everyone should be concerned about Trump’s plan. After all, the people who are going to be the most affected by this part of Trump’s plan aren’t migrants, but American farmers and home and business owners. Barriers already separating the United States and the Mexican border have created major hassles for property owners on the border, some of whom have been cut off from the rest of their existing land and water sources inside the United States. The border fence that has already been built since Congress authorized partial construction in 2006, covering nearly 700 miles in four states, is perforated with doors that the Border Patrol was forced to build to allow people to continue to access their property and to graze animals. Texas residents are already girding for a major legal fight over the 33 miles of border wall and fencing authorized by Congress in March, which require seizures of land owned by families in the Rio Grande Valley for generations—and a Catholic chapel dating back to 1865. ** Trump is a big fan of eminent domain, which he took advantage of as a real estate developer. Notably, in the early 1990s, he convinced New Jersey’s Casino Reinvestment Development Authority to use eminent domain to condemn the house of a retired woman who lived next to Trump Plaza in Atlantic City. Trump wanted to turn her house into a limo parking lot. Vera Coking, who’d lived in the house for more than 30 years, had refused to sell to Trump. She fought back, sued, and kept her house. The lawsuit didn’t dampen Trump’s enthusiasm for government land seizures, though, especially those on behalf of private developers like him. ** Given that track record, why aren’t conservatives—especially Texas conservatives like Ted Cruz—freaking out more about Trump’s brazen plans to declare a national emergency and seize thousands of miles’ worth of private property? Somin says in part the issue still hasn’t penetrated the public eye thanks to the “White House freak show” that’s overshadowing lots of important issues. ** Much more at link: www.motherjones.com/politics/2019/01/donald-trump-eminent-domain-border-wall-emergency/The whole article is worth reading...

Brian Fallon... ”Mitch McConnell is the story. Bipartisan gangs of senators are not going to fix this. Mike Pence meeting with staffers is not going to fix this. Trump sitting alone in the residence is not going to fix this. Mitch McConnell is the story.” Old Mitch sure likes to block things. He blocked President Obama from fulfilling his Constitutional right to fill an opening on the Supreme Court. He blocked President Obama along with the Congressional Leadership on both sides from making a joint statement about Russia meddling in our election prior to the election. And he is now blocking any bill that could stop the shutdown from coming to the Senate floor for a vote. Mitch McConnell is one of those politicians I truly do NOT get. Even when I voted Republican, I could not stand him. I don't understand how that man keeps getting elected. I truly think it is because people recognize his name, so they vote for him. I mean, is there really anyone who actually LIKES him? I don't get it. He is the poster child for why we need term limits. Seriously! I honestly don’t understand how he has so much power. How can one person be the final call...where are our checks and balances? There needs to be a way to override him. (Maybe there is...I’m a little ignorant on the proceedings)

Scott Dworkin...
“BREAKING: Court docs say: “in 2017 Manafort told Gates that he was using intermediaries, including [redacted] to get people appointed in the Administration.” Translation: Putin chose Trump’s cabinet, via Manafort. Makes sense. Almost everyone appointed was linked to Putin.”
And a reminder from Jon Cryer...
“Manafort picked Pence”

Ooh he did and he's been caught in enough lies on camera that there's no denying it. In my mind, Mueller is rounding up ALL of them and that's another reason for the huge scope. Imagine if not only Trump is out (jailed or murdered for treason), Pence is in jail for being an unwitting agent also, Paul Ryan and the whole bunch are jailed along with them? I'm dreaming of that day! They HAVE to be accountable one day, right??
(DISGUSTING of Karen Pence to even utter those remarks! How are they in any way, shape or form Christian-like???)

Found the article ............ Well opinion piece.... Wishful thinking......... Could Nancy Pelosi be the next president of the United States?BY ALLAN LICHTMAN, OPINION CONTRIBUTOR — 01/15/19 10:00 AM EST THE VIEWS EXPRESSED BY CONTRIBUTORS ARE THEIR OWN AND NOT THE VIEW OF THE HILL If there is evidence of Trump selling out to the Russians, and Pence took any part in covering it up, then the vice president could also be found guilty of an impeachable crime or the concealment of a felony. The United States Code clearly provides that an individual “having knowledge of the actual commission of a felony cognizable by a court of the United States, conceals and does not as soon as possible make known the same to some judge or other person in civil or military authority under the United States, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years.” If Trump and Pence are swept away by conviction or resignation, then Pelosi becomes president under the law. Under the 25th Amendment, and with the consent of Congress, she can then appoint a vice president of choosing, just as Richard Nixon appointed Gerald Ford after Spiro Agnew pleaded guilty to tax evasion and resigned. This is how, in the great irony of ironies, Nancy Pelosi could become president of the United States. More at link: thehill.com/opinion/white-house/425344-could-nancy-pelosi-be-the-next-president-of-the-united-statesthey would both have to go at the exact same time for it to work....... If one or the other stays longer he could appoint a replacement for the other.

Clemson Coach: “Proud to be an American and a member of the National Championship football team, the Clemson University Tigers today. I can’t believe this boy from Fayetteville, NC got to eat McDonald’s with his wife and some of his closest friends in the White House. There’s enough hate and division in the world, especially when it comes to politics. The team loved it. The families loved it, and everyone was so hospitable and welcoming in the White House. It’s a pretty cool tradition that the National Champions get to visit the White House. I don’t know if I will ever get that experience again but I’m blessed to experience it at least once!
People can politicize anything. Today and tonight wasn’t about politics, political parties, presidents or what divides us. Tonight was about a group of young men being honored for their extraordinary feat and their unbelievable character. Congrats boys; y’all deserve it!
Go Tigers and Go America!”

slight hijack: sassyangel, I really like both of your signature quotes! I get that it is an honor to be invited to the White House, even with trump as president to some it is still an honor. I get that food had to be brought in. But fast food really? There any number of restaurants, including the one in his hotel, that trump could have reached out to and put out a better spread then a bunch of cold hamburgers. trump picked the cheapest way of providing food for his guests since the self proclaimed billionaire was paying for it. It has more to do with good manners and etiquette then politics. And he failed, as did his wife for letting him do it.

I’ve been rewatching Criminal Minds from the start on Netflix, and each episode has one or two quotes in it that relate to the episode. They have some terrific ones that I often jot down in my notes on my phone to think on. Those two really spoke to me. Funnily, in way they didn’t when the episode first aired, and I would have heard them then. This is another favorite "Of all the preposterous assumptions of humanity over humanity, nothing exceeds most of the criticisms made on the habits of the poor by the well-housed, well- warmed, and well-fed." ~ Herman Melville“

Jacob Soboroff...
”Trump today: border walls "have all been recognized as close to 100% successful. Stop the crime at our Southern Border!"
Border Patrol to me, while standing in a smuggling tunnel 70 feet *under the border fence* in San Diego last year: "They're always tunneling somewhere."
I wonder why no one asks trump about this little truth.
