My dryer is about 13 years old, I had it fixed 2 years ago and over the summer it stopped heating up. I have been hanging our clothes ever since and I am about to go crazy. Main thing is hanging does not take off the DOG HAIR. Washer was fixed once but it still working so I am thinking I won't replace that yet. I have a nice set that back in the day had all the bells and whistles but I am starting to realize I JUST NEED TO DRY!! With one in college and another about to go, I do not want to spend a ton of money and have a bell or whistle go bad and need to fix again. My Bosch 2 year old dishwasher is broken as well. That I will get fixed but it pisses me off it is broken after 2 years so I am thinking of just getting a plain, simple dryer. But all the commercials show these beautiful sets that make me glaze over So, does anyone have a simple, less expensive dryer that works very well and will help me from falling for these advertisements and going broke??

I do. I have had it 5 or 6 years and bought it to replace another very simple dryer. I basically use my timed cycle and the low heat or medium heat. I have never used any other cycle. Therefore I don’t feel it necessary to buy high end or something with a lot of bells and whistles. I tend to buy simple for all of my appliances.
Buying an an appliance is almost as high up on my hate list as buying a car.
ETA - ha I can’t even remember what brand. I am pretty sure I got it from Sears, but maybe Home Depot or Lowe’s. I will look at the brand and update.

I am insistent on having simple, basic appliances. I had to buy a new washer/dryer pair a year or so ago and it was difficult to find a basic pair. All the options at Lowe's and other large box stores were not what I wanted. I finally had the best luck when I went to a local appliance dealer. They had my old-fashioned white washer and dryer without all the extra bells & whistles. Maybe try some place like that.

Yes. We've been able to find the best deals through big box stores online. They carry the basic models on their website even if it's not in the showroom.

Have you had a repairman come look at the dryer? I had that problem once and it turned out that the dryer ran on 2 fuses or something, I can't remember. One part would turn it and one would make it heat.

I have had good luck finding them on craigslist. People move and need to quickly get rid of them. Last one I got was $50 about 5 years ago and its going strong

One part would turn it and one would make it heat. I had it fixed once before-- $300 so I have been afraid to call someone again and pay the same when it just might be getter to get a plain new one. It cost $80 just to come to the house. Thanks all, I guess I wanted reassurance that I don't need it all

Yep. I have a large family and do a lot of laundry but don’t need the extras—I just want reliable machines. We’re on our second set of Fisher & Paykel. First set lasted us about 15 years of 15-20 loads of laundry per week. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy them again. We’ve also had the best luck with a local appliance store.

We have a basic, simple dryer that we bought in 1993. Pretty sure it's a Kenmore. It still works great and because of the wonders of YouTube, DH is able to fix it when something goes wrong. We are, however, on our third washer in that same amount of time.

I have a roper dryer I've been pretty happy with. Had it for 11 years now. Finally had to replace the washer last fall and had the same problems finding something super simple.

What kind of bells and whistles come with a dryer? Mine dries and will buzz if I want to to. It has 4 heat settings (well one is fluff)

My hubs fixed our washing machine with a zip tie a couple of years ago. I am another that buys basic models. No bells and whistles and I have never been sorry. ETA: Dryer not heating brings up a lot of videos on YouTube.

We have the regular basic set from Sears and have had it for 27 years. It was our first adult purchase and I won’t get rid of them until they die and can’t be repaired. They just don’t make appliances like they used to.
I’d suggest Googling and seeing if you can fix the problem. A dryer not heating is a common problem and can be fixed by a lay person.

What kind of bells and whistles come with a dryer? Well, the latest craze is those steam dryers that require a water hookup, for example. I also don't need mine to sanitize, have an option for adding clothing while it's running, or have wi-fi/app access.

Yup, we do. We didn't need it to last forever because we don't want to pay to move it whenever we move out. That being said, a friend told us to get simple washer & dryers, so we got Bravos

(Front loading washers, sure, but I have never known of a dryer not to let you in whenever!)

Yes- just got a Maytag from Home Depot 5 months ago. About $600 delivered, installed and old one removed. Bought online. Easiest transaction ever!

Eddie-n-Harley -- A friend has one with door that opens two ways. It swings open like a regular door and/or drops down like an oven door. Supposedly, it allows you to add a garment mid cycle without everything tumbling out when you open the door while it's running.

I have a high tech Samsung one and it sucks. I would like a simple one because the one I have I dislike.

Another vote for checking out YouTube videos. I am not handy in the least bit, but have tackled dryer repair and maintenance a few times. From what I understand they are some of the simplest repairs. YouTube saved me bundles! My dryer is a 23 year old Kenmore. A bitt dinged up but does the job well.
I hear you about the dog fur removal! I couldn’t live without one because of that!

We have a Whirlpool that has 3 cycles. We have had it about 5 years. Same here. I've had mine for going on 10 years and it's still going strong. Nothing fancy. Two of the setting have heat, and one is a cold, fluff setting.

Did you purchase your Bosch appliance on credit card? Sometimes you can double your warranty up to an extra year with your credit card.
