This is a bit of a spinoff from our Weekly Reading Threads, which are fabulous and I've gotten many good recs from those!
What are your reading goals for 2019? Do you plan to read a certain number of books? Do you plan to incorporate different types of texts or voices than you usually read?
My 2018 goal was 50 books and I'm going to Juuuuuuust make it!
My 2019 goal is going to be 52 books (so, a book a week) and to read at least 80% women, LGBTQ+ and authors of color.
I've been using Goodreads to track, so if you're a reader and track, what are you using? Goodreads? Litsy? Spreadsheets?
So, what are your 2019 reading goals?

WOW. I can't imagine reading that many. Good for you! I did 12 books this yr. That's pretty good for me. So my goal is to keep that, and anything above that is gravy.

I use Goodreads and my goal for this year was 75 and I read 77!! I think I'm going to shoot for 75 again and I want to follow a reading challenge of some kind.

My goal this year was 115 and I am barely going to hit 90. However, the first half of the year was spent house-hunting. I think in 2019 I will keep the same goal and hopefully hit it this time.

I read a ton!!!! I even re-read books that I enjoy! So how much I read is never a question....it is finding new books and good authors that becomes a struggle for me.
On the other thread several peas talked about Kristin Hannah’s “The Great Alone”...... I got it and have to say that was a great read!!!! Hope to find more like that this coming year!

I read/listened to 46 books this year (maybe 47 if I finish the one I'm reading now later). I used Goodreads to track my books and joined their reading challenge with a goal of 20 books. I've been way off my reading game for a few years and I wanted to get back into it again. Audible has been a game changer for me - now my 1 hr commute isn't wasted time. I've found some new authors I love this year - Fredrik Backman (my new favorite), Harlan Coben, Scott Pratt - and I listened to a number of classic chick lit novels. It's been a great year for me and I'm hoping to up my game for next year.
I'm hoping to read at least 50 books this year and to try a few new authors. I'll use Goodreads again because it's easy and it motivates me to see my progress.

My goal is 26. One every 2 weeks. I didn't come close this year, but that's not surprising. Next year should be calmer. I used to read 100-300 books a year, so 26 seems low to me. I'm being more thoughtful with my choices.
A GIANT thanks to the Peas who have picked out at least half of my books!!!

I use Goodreads.
My goal this year was 52 and I read 62. Yay me!
Last year I only read 19 books.
I think I will keep my goal at 52 for 2019.

I'm going to do this one also! I did one a few years ago and had a lot of fun coming up with books to read for each category. In the end I didn't get to all of them but I still read more books than usual, and more different ones for sure!

I had a goal of 50, and read 53. Overachiever!
I'll probably set the same goal. Hopefully I won't have so many books that I abandon. There seemed to be a lot of them this year.

I had hoped to read 52 books this year, but I only made it to 48. I had a good reading year, though.
In the past I've read a lot of nonfiction books, but this year I read a lot of fiction. I was inspired by the PBS Great American Read to read several classics I'd never read. I also read several fictional bestsellers that were recommended on the Weekly Reading thread.
The Weekly Reading thread really does help me finish books faster than I would otherwise. I find myself thinking "I'd better get this book done so I can post on the Weekly Reading thread."
I am generally not a superstitious person, but I have this thing about the first book I read each year. It seems like if I my first book is a good one, I'll read good books all year. If the first one is so-so, most of the books I read will just be okay. Pachinko has been recommended over and over, so I bought the digital version on Amazon yesterday for only $2.99 and plan to make it my first book of the year.

I read 116 this year - my goal was 120 so I fell a little short.
I have kept track of my books read since 1993 - at first I just wrote them in a notebook, then I used an Excel spreadsheet, and now I use Goodreads. Since 1993, the fewest books I’ve read in a year is 91 and the most is 139.
For me, I think 120 is a challenge, but very doable, so that will be my goal again in 2019.

I failed miserably on my 2018 goal of 100 books (got 55 finished), so I decided to try the Popsugar Reading Challenge for 2019. It's a list of 50ish book prompts like "Read a book that has a question in the title". Pretty open ended, but some of the prompts will definitely force me to read some books I wouldn't normally pick up.

I think my reading goal for 2019 will be 52 books. Four books is doable a month for me since I like to read on the train and bus when I'm going to work. I don't have a particular type of book I'm aiming to read. Though I did get tons of books for Christmas and I can't wait to start reading that.
My reading goal this year was 52 books, I ended up reading 85.

I failed miserably this year. Based on what I had read the previous year, I set my goal at 30. Actual results? 11. Not even a book a month. Pathetic! I will lay some blame on an extended recovery from eye surgery. But still. Spent too much time online. My goal for 2019 will be 26. Like Really Red said, I have the peas to thank for the books waiting to be read. ETA: I use Goodreads to track my reading.

I use Goodreads too (since 2013). I'm going to set my goal for 100 this year. All audiobooks.
I've been picking out my books over the last 3 days...I've selected about 80 books that I want to read, a mix of books I already own, some classics I've always meant to read and never got to (Anna Karenina is on the list this year) and ones in various library and Goodreads wish/to read lists. The rest (marked 'new') will be for new releases, sequels and other random books that catch my eye during the year.
I put the list into a bingo card generator, then I start at one corner and read either across or down until I've finished the line to the other side. Then I start a bew line. I highlight the book I'm currently reading in red, then it switches to green when I'm finished. 2019 list:
It's not as obsessive as it seems . It's just a guide, I change some of the books during the year, or the order, but it gives me a guide, and gets me out of the "I don't know what to read next" funk. It also reminds me which books I already own and need to read before buying more.
I'm starting the year with When Women Ruled the World by Kara Cooney: "This riveting narrative explores the lives of six remarkable female pharaohs, from Hatshepsut to Cleopatra - women who ruled with real power - and shines a piercing light on our own perceptions of women in power today"

Hi! I love to read and am excited to join this thread for 2019!
My goal is to read 10 classic novels, 10 contemporary novels, 10 biographies and 20 books from my Pinterest board. I'm aiming to read books I haven't read before.
I'll try out using Goodreads for tracking my books and recommendations.
Over the next few days I'll look through the books I've saved to my Pinterest board and choose a few to start with.

Everytime I make these reading goals I never stick to them but I really want to for 2019. I’m one of those people that I’ll binge read a ton and then won’t pick it up for awhile.

I totally bombed my reading goal this year. Going to start fresh, and aim for 12; one book a month. Its really all I can handle right now.

My reading goal was 150 books. I read 67. I'm going to set this years goal for 100. I should be done with my endorsement classes ( which is why I didn't meat my goal) by the end of July. FYI I am a elementary school librarian so most of my books are middle grade and some YA books, which are shorter reads generally.

I just want to read MORE. I track my books on Good Reads, and my numbers have fallen off drastically in the past three years. I don't know if I'll set a goal number or not, but I want to be more intentional with my free time and spend less of it on my phone.

I read 82 this year, but I rarely watch TV. I would like to read 100 this year, but my goal will be 75. I keep track by writing the name and author of each book I finish in numerical order in my planner.

My goal for 2018 was 100 and I only did 71. This is the first year in the 5 years I’ve been tracking that I haven’t hit 100. I will probably set my goal at 75 for 2019. For me Reading is a habit. I had a few stretches where I don’t read much. I’m going to try to be better about always having a book going. DH and I usually spend about an hour In bed each night reading or surfing on the internet.

52. I probably read 25 last year. I should be done with school by the spring and then it's going to be a reading festival.
