I was a busy bee this morning. 😀
All Christmas stuff is put away.
Furniture is put back I to place. (It was moved to accommodate the tree).
I vacuumed living room and diningroom.
Working on all the laundry. Tossed some items that just looked too worn.much
And replaced all the calendars. Wrote upcoming birthdays and appointments on them.
I'm feeling very accomplished this morning. 😀

Marking my spot! I read The Life Changing...whatever the book is called 😂 I actually got it for my sister for Christmas.
I’m determined to completely be organized this year.

I am very lucky as my condo building has partnered with the Diabetes Association and has made an area in our laundry area to be a "pick up" area. I simply have to put clothing, magazines, kitchen items and other household items in this area and they are picked up by this association.
It is very easy to simply put items in this room, with a weekly pickup.
My condo is also very "recycle friendly". There are bins for paper only, plastic only, cardboard only, organic only bins, plastic bag only and a battery only bins.

I started yesterday too so I could enjoy the Rose Parade and game.
I purged and organized the last cabinet in the kitchen. It is a bottom one that is long and then in the back turns towards the sink area. I found dh's old lunch box, an old reusable water cup and old containers a friend gave me for ds' medical formula (so I could have pre measured amounts).
Donated a crock pot and un opened huge long rolls of foil.
Dusted and wiped down the area and then put things back.
I also reorganized a smaller kitchen cabinet.

Since I have some unexpected time off from work, I really want to get organized and only keep things I truly love.
First thing I've done so far is purge my books. It's tough going through them but I am donating books that I don't really like or was just meh about. I have a pile of 100+ plus books so far in my donation pile.
I put away most of my Christmas stuff, still working on that.
Next is my clothes, I have tons of clothes that I need to just donate since I never wear them. I'm eager to get that done since my closet is just so cluttered and it's bee driving me crazy.
Last thing I am going through is my craft supplies, cardmaking, etc...I have SO much stuff I don't use.
Also watching YouTube videos to get me motivated, I love DoItonaDime, her videos are so good and motivating.

My goal this year is to have waaaaay less stuff! Main goals: 1. Take down, purge and organize the Christmas stuff 2. Reorganize the toys in the living room - purge, sell and move where they are stored 3. Sell everything from my past DS business - if not sold by the end of the month, purge it. 4. Clean, purge and organize my daughter's room - and prep for paint 5. Organize, ongoing purge of craft stuff (and doing a lot more crafting!) I'll probably end up doing some more, but these are my main goals starting tomorrow! Today is dishes, baking and playing in the snow

My craft room/office will receive the last coat of paint today. The flooring has been ordered (because the color I want is not carried in the store). I am going through all of the stuff that came out of my room: organizing. Purging, etc.).
Last night I went through cards (Christmas, Birthday) and got rid of some of them.

I want to get my craft room/guest room cleaned up. I got a lot done earlier this fall, but with Christmas crafting and then less time to put things away it has become a bigger mess. First thing - and an easy thing - is to break down and get rid of the extra boxes I’d kept to use if needed for wrapping gifts. I can get rid of those now!

Today I'm spending my last day of vacation to organize my craft room. I've purged a lot of the scrapbooking items but acquired a lot of yarn. Yarn is squishy but not 'that' squishy so I need to find an organized home for it. I also need to figure out how to safely purge old paperwork that needs to be shredded. Our shredder broke so I'll need to pack it in something and look for a shredding event in the area soon.
Thanks for the 2019 thread!

I’m new to this thread.
Have no idea how to start.
Last year my sister died unexpectedly and I need to purge her stuff that ended up at my place. Shortly after that my mom needed removed from unsafe living conditions so much of her stuff ended up at my place too, and her dementia hit hard, and I’m left alone to deal with both.
My health my daughters health were both impacted negatively this year from different surgeries for both of us, so the house is a disaster.
Need to start small but it’s all overwhelming.

And that’s exactly what you do - start small. Pick one small space, a drawer, a cabinet, a basket. Start by cleaning it up and getting rid of what you aren’t keeping there. You’ll feel good and then it’s motivating to do another space. You’ll get there!

January - I'm working on my bedroom and the spare bedroom across the hall that has been turned into kind of a dumping ground.
I have gone through my closet and most of my dresser drawers and pulled out all of the clothes I no longer wear and don't plan to ever wear again. I saw that I needed some sort of a jewelry hanger for necklaces and I ordered one from Amazon. It should be here at the end of the week. I also went through the bottom of a tv stand in my bedroom and threw out a bunch of stuff and straightened out the things I want to keep - big improvement.
Spare bedroom - threw out a bunch of stuff. Worked on putting my yarn into dresser drawers so it is not all sitting in bags looking like a mess. I also pulled out the scrap blanket that I started working on this summer and plan to continue adding to it in an effort to bust my stash.
I need to continue to throw, give away, and arrange what I plan to keep in the next weeks.

I'm watching Tidying Up with Marie Kondo on Netflix and some of these homes are stressing me out. I need to purge a lot of things.
This month I am focusing on using up stuff - doing a pantry/freezer challenge. So I will be working on both areas a lot this month. Going to focus on a few things that have been there a while and I have forgotten first.
I am also working on using up samples for beauty boxes - I started last year and then got sidetracked. I need to use them or toss them this year. I pull out one thing of hand lotion and then move on when I get to the next same with face cleaner or moisturizer. Right now I have a few items that I swear are unending - I like them so won't purge but seriously I have a thing of shower gel that is almost unending along with a little vial of perfume.
I also have some books that I am pretty sure I won't want to reread but want to read them before I purge so I need to focus on those but of course I am reading other books on my kindle - I get started on a series and then want to finish it vs reading a real book. I need to spend a month and just read and then purge these books.
Our garage has gotten crazy in the last few months so I want to reorganize that. I am hoping to take care of two areas this month.

Anyone know what to do with used car booster seats? For reference, my youngest is now 12!! Toss. Target has a trade in event a couple of times a year where you can drop it off and they will (presumably) recycle them and give you a 20% off coupon towards another car seat. I've done it and just left the coupon in the car seat section because I didn't need it. Last year they did it April and September. Packed up Christmas decorations and managed to get a few boxes to donate. Also have five boxes of general household stuff to donate too. Will drop off tomorrow and get it out of the house!!!

Nothing like a new year to get you started. Last week I thinned out the wrapping paper before putting away and repiled the someday ebay stuff. I told my son home from college if he posts and sells the stuff that I'll split any money with him.
This week I want to: -re-org the drinks cabinet -thin out our liquor collection -clean out the pantry, or at least the bottom 2 shelves -clean the toys out under the stairs and up date it age wise for my grandson -make my college son thin out his t shirts -take a wad of stuff to Goodwill -clean drawers where pots and plates go

(((Hugs))) You've been through a lot. My advice would be to start small. One tabletop, one night table, toss something that isn't difficult for you and consider it a victory. Decluttering has a snowball effect (for me, at least), and once I start to see my space more peaceful, I want to continue to enjoy it more and more.

I'm not surprised you are overwhelmed! I agree with the others, start small. Try to get rid of one thing every day for a while. I keep a box in my laundry room at all times for things to donate. Every time I see something I no longer love or need, I put it in the box. It's so easy to drop off at Goodwill. The ones by me have a drive up area and they'll unload your items for you.

**GypsyGirl** www.theminimalists.com/game/You basically get rid of one item on Day 1, 2 items on Day 2, etc. At the end of one month you’ve gotten rid of over 400 items. I don’t plan to be strict about it. If on Day 3 I find 20 things to get rid of, I’ll count that for Day 20. I had a friend do this but she started with 30, then 29, then 28, etc. She thought it would be easier to start big.

Falling in line with my word of the year "simplify", I started organizing my home office. I'm digging through the closet getting rid of anything that I don't need or have strong sentimental value for. I still have a ways to go, but it's a good start.
We put all Christmas decorations away yesterday. Why is it always more fun pulling them out than packing them away?

Update for my Day 3 - Kitchen. I did it. That Fry Daddy Jr is out of the house! along with a cr@p load of other stuff. All items are in the back of my car ready to be dropped off tomorrow.
DH asked me what my next area was going to be, I think so he could stay out of my way. I think it will be the basement but too cold down there now.

I have a BFF who likes to organize. She is the best so what she did was tear apart one of my bedrooms and it’s awesome now. I am working on the other one now. The dresser top needs to be organized and I am sending her a photo and she will tell me what to do. I make her French toast or Yorkshire pudding when she visits and she is happy with that for payment. I seriously have a good deal here! So Friday maybe I will start on the dresser.

I was able to mark Christmas off my list. All the decorations were boxed and put away this afternoon. Donation box got 2 centerpieces (20+ years old), about 5 ornaments (luncheon favors that aren't my style/taste), and all the tree lights for our 4' tree. Got them on sale at $2/each and don't want to bother with storing them. In order to store some nicer things in a small armoire, I rearranged some shelves. Added some empty boxes (potential craft projects for 10 years) to the donation box and tossed a pair of needlepoint stretchers that were broken. This afternoon I also cleared off all my kitchen counters, cleaned them well, then rearranged my work zones. Cutting boards and vintage bread bowl w/vegetables moved to counter closer to trash bin, coffee pot and grinder moved to the other side of the sink where there won't be such a bottleneck in the mornings. Also shifted some things that are more decorative, putting the big champagne bucket on an open display shelf and putting a cute set of painted canisters from S. Africa on my wine bar. Gives me more working room there and something different to look at. I'm used to moving every couple of years and now that I'm not moving I get bored with layouts and decorations. DH asked me what my next area was going to be, I think so he could stay out of my way. Could be he's afraid he's next (or his stuff)!

I already got a bit done. I'm starting on my sewing supplies because I want to get a lot of projects done soon.
I dumped my sewing kit (large tool box) that I've been using since the '90s. All the old useless junk went in the trash, all the old useful stuff got organized and repacked. The most frequently used items went into a caddy I can easily access things from.
I gathered the power cords and pedals, manuals, attachments, and machine specific accessories for my 3 machines (general use machine, heavy duty machine, and serger) and put them in separate plastic bags for now. I want to get some clear boxes to put them in, stacked on the shelf next to the machines.
Next are my pattern boxes. I have lots of patterns. Most are usable, even the vintage ones, but I'm sure some can go. Regardless, they need to be better organized, they're all mixed in together now and I have to flip through all of them to find specific ones. I'll categorize them and make file index tabs for different categories then repack them.

I spent the whole day yesterday taking down and packing away the Christmas decorations. So. Much. Work.
I got everything dusted and vacuumed and I feel like I can breath again with all that clutter gone. I did miss having the tree and lights on early this morning though.
I need to get the outdoor decorations down today and then start decluttering the closets and drawers in my bedroom. I do this so often and it just never seems like enough.

Not exactly decluttering, but on the process of making a capsule wardrobe, I bought 4 cardigans and some shells & tank tops to wear underneath. I like the idea of having versatile mix and match outfits.

I did a really good job of purging in 2018. My goal for this year is to seriously cut down on excess spending which means way less coming into the house and stick to my grocery budget.

Today is the day the second hand store starts taking in new clothing. I have 3 bags in the garage right now. Maybe 4 but it doesn’t matter as there are more than one. I have had this date in my appointments calendar for a month. I am really tired today. I have a dull head and am just fatigued. I have 4 big garbage bags of clothes to get rid of. BFF called and she needs a destination so she is taking me. I do 90% of the driving so she knows this is important to me. I am excited to get rid of the stuff.

I've been doing really really well the last 18-24 months. I've been around the house a bunch of times, purging and organizing. There's still more to go -- actually it's always ongoing. I've been sick the last two weeks, so not much other than Christmas stuff put away. The family did most of it and I just helped a little bit.
I bit the bullet to do some work on the house and the painters arrive tomorrow morning. I'm having every room on the three levels painted, so my house will be upside down for a bit. Now that I've cleared away a lot of clutter, I look forward to doing some decorating. I haven't done very much of that in the last 20 years!!!
I try to do a zone a week, although during busy times at work it's more like a zone a month. I put on self-help podcasts and work my zone for 30ish minutes a day. Sometimes more, but usually 30 minutes.
