I watched a few episodes of Tidying Up this morning, then I got to work! I’ve already picked up the Christmas decorations, yea! I also cleaned my bedroom up. My goals for January- take the donation bags to goodwill or ALS Repair broken Christmas ornament and nativity figure and put away Go through the shelves in the closet The big one- clean up my craft room! I have been shy and piling things up on my desk, so now I have to go through a bunch of stuff so that I can use my desk Another big one-no craft or clothing shopping
It feels good to write it all down!

Looking forward to watching Tidying Up later this evening. I've been busy today around the house since the weather was so nasty. Emptied the fridge, gave it a good cleaning and tossed a few expired items. Also started a grocery list as I saw things that were low. I also organized my eBay armoire and added a couple of things that haven't sold to the donation box. Was hoping to get more done but ended up doing laundry and house chores since the housekeeper can't make it tomorrow (her DH is having surgery). Tomorrow is supposed to be another messy day so I plan to stay home and work on my January goals.

I love to organize and de-clutter . . . so much so that I purposely let things pile up a little just so I can have the fun of un-piling, lol! Yesterday I spent about an hour going through all my purses and only keeping the ones that 'spark joy' and got rid of about 2/3 of them, which translated into two big garbage bags. Today I had to make the contents of a big IKEA Expedit 16 square bookshelf fit into the existing shelves in our den. Luckily, the more time I spend working in libraries, the easier weeding books gets for me, so I pulled out four big Rubbermaid bins worth of books and everything fits nicely! I also cleaned out my socks and undies and came up with an entire laundry basket of things to go. Tomorrow isn't so much a de-cluttering day as a redecorating day--I'm going to take down the wall of curtains in my bedroom, remove all the old curtain rods and hardware, patch any holes that need patching and get ready to repaint the room . . . than might be a Friday job, depending on how tired I get! Dd wants to take my old curtains and repurpose them in her room, so maybe I'll do a little guerrilla tidying in her cesspool of a room while I'm in there . . .

I will be starting small, because otherwise I get overwhelmed. So January will be the month that the linen closets get purged and organized. There will also be a trip to the Goodwill to drop off the clothes we decided to purge in December.

I followed but never posted in 2018.
My goals for 2019 are going to be broken down into monthly goals or I get overwhelmed 1. Plan monthly calendar at beginning of ever month- Jan completed! 2. Finish taking pics/posting stuff for sale on Varagesale 3.Keep up with my personal monthly planner 4. Meal plan / budget / meal prep for days I work evenings.

Today I recycled a paper grocery bag full of school papers from the first half of this school year. No important papers, so it wasn't hard. The school seriously sends home incredible amounts of paper each day.
I also donated two large plastic bags of kid clothes that hadn't sold on eBay, and I just don't want to deal with anymore.
And not decluttering, but using it up... I tore into rub-ons and used nearly a whole pack on a layout. I have a little goal to use as many rub-ons as I can this year, because I'm tossing the rest next January. I'm sick of seeing them in their package and not in my albums.

I have a few things I want to do. There are lots more, but this is where I want to start.
Now that Christmas gifts are out of my craft room closet, I want to finish organizing and purging stuff I will never use. I want a tidy craft room with an organized supply closet!!
I want to re-fold and figure out a better plan for my purses/bags and for my jeans and shorts. I went through every item in my closet, got rid of a ton, and sorted things in a way that I thought would work. It’s not exactly working so I want to fine tune it. I want my closet and dresser to be organized and make it easy to get stuff out and to put it away.
There’s a lot more I need to do, but those are the two areas I want to focus on first.

I've missed participating in this thread the year I did I accomplished so much so TY!
Everyone has some great goals!
I have so many goals this year it's amazing how much crap collects when your life is on pause.
January Goals Take down everything Christmas, tree and all the Christmas decor I have so much that will be a 2 day job
As I take it all down I want to organize and go thru the boxes of stuff I didn't even put out and make piles for my 4 boys if they don't want it then it will get donated.
In the fall we became empty nesters as our youngest moved out so his room became the catch all for our Christmas decorations, wrap and decor I had to take down to make room for my Christmas decor. It looks like a bomb went off in there LOL so need to clean that up. I'll add photos as I work on it so you can appreciate the task I have ahead of me UGH
My scrap room It's become the catch all room dump site for a long time and it needs to be culled of non scrappy stuff.
It also needs a overhaul. I got paid out for my vacation pay so for a portion of it I bought a kallax unit from IKEA and a tall Alex unit and a unit from Michael's. This month I want to set it all up in my room and shift stuff around. I will add photos as I know lots of us struggle with scrappy storage/organizing.
These are both huge tasks and need to get done!!
I'll update with photos and progress as I accomplish things!

January Goals. Well get down Christmas. The isn't happening until January 12th weekend. But I am reorganizing my Christmas when I pack it away. My storage closet is getting an overhaul. I have bought shelving and once Christmas is away (empty christmas bins in there currently) I will have it done. So that is next weekend's project.
DH goes back to afternoons starting Monday so I have my weekday evenings to myself again. My goal is to work on my scrapbook room starting this week. I am participating in a craft yardsale so need to purge. Yardsale is at the end of the month.
This weekend in between being very busy this weekend we are going thru our clothes and getting rid of them. We both got a bunch of new stuff so out with the old.
I want to get my routine going for 2019.

So my wonderful friend who helps me organize my life has just had a day from hell and I am not burdening her with my decluttering drama.
I looked at the top of the dresser and there is all this stuff on it and I don’t know what to do. It doesn’t have to happen today. I would just like to start on it.
I did discard 10 items twice I counted them one by one. The cosmetics can go to the women’s shelter as there are new makeup brushes, good micellar water, and stuff. The other stuff is garbage unfortunately. It’s a start anyway. 10 things at a time.

Good Lord I'm so pissed and frustrated!
So we got a few things from IKEA fot my scraproom re-do that need to be put together. He started putting them together last weekend some parts were missing so there was a delay. He said he'd do it today after he took down our outside Christmas stuff done but I didn't realize you planned on putting all that fucking shit in our basement! Traipsing 5 huge glitter covered reindeer and one snowman thru my house seriously WTF. Glitter from one end to the other.
When I asked why can't these go outside in the garage or shed oh well I have to move shit around so maybe the spring and I might wanna put my car in the garage if it gets really cold out FFS in the past 3 yrs I can count on one hand how many times you used the garage.
I had such big plans for this month and now I just feel like saying fuck it!!!

I haven't read any comments yet.
But I unexpectedly have to move as my landlords need my home for a family member. I have less than two months although I might see about extending the move a week.
Nothing like a move to make you want to get rid of everything! Gah. So I will be following.

My dh just bought flooring for the basement. It currently has carpet. All the stuff down there is mine- jewelry studio, crafts & exercise equipment. Looks like I’ll be purging.

I'm jumping in again! I participated for the first part of 2018, then we went out of town and I never got my mojo back. My year goal is to get rid of 2020 things. I fell way short last year, but I've done it in the past so I know I can.
My January goals:
1) Break down all Christmas & return all holiday boxes to the barn. 2) Sort through winter gear, put out what we need and return the extras/spares to the barn. 3) Come up with a method for incoming paper and put it into place. 4) Go through 2018 receipts, collect important ones and shred the rest. Claim healthcare related receipts with FSA. 5) Create and start new planner (also one for PTA). 6) Use up what is in the pantry and freezer (aka January austere grocery plan). 7) Deliver one box of books to bookstore (for credit).
I know that's a lot, but I really need a reset. Thanks for starting this up again -- we can do it!

Yesterday was productive -- Christmas is all gone, and I labeled all of the little boxes that go in the big boxes. I'm so happy about that! We still have holiday boxes from Halloween and Thanksgiving in the house, so I'm only partly done with goal #1. I accomplished a bonus goal of going through DS' clothes. I got rid of quite a few things that did not fit and I was also able to persuade DH to let me get rid of things that were too big that shouldn't have even been handed down (absolutely shredded jeans that weren't worth patching but years ago DH insisted would be helpful to have someday). Yippee! But unfortunately I found a new goal: 8) Clear my phone and add some apps that I need. Hope the weekend was productive for everyone else!

I'm dropping off a few boxes for donation this afternoon. I went through my large Pax cabinets in my craft room to add in some extra shelves I bought last year to take advantage of wasted space. But then I got rid of a bunch of stuff. My goal is to clear off the hutch counter in there by the end of the week, organize projects to get them going too.

There are some great goals on this list!
Mine are:
1) get monthly planner filled out 2) itemize and deliver things to charity that have been collected 3) clean closets and attic 4) sort 2018 receipts, keep necessary ones and scan, shred the rest 5) delete unused documents and apps from phone / pc
I think I'm going to be busy this month!

Today I went through the rest of my sell pile and was ruthless. I donated two garbage bags full of clothes that haven't sold and aren't worth the time to keep trying to sell. Then I took photos of what was left. I'll list later this week.
I uploaded December 2018 photos and ordered prints.
Last week I finished buying the bones of my capsule wardrobe. A few new pairs of jeans in blues and black, and two pairs of leather flats, one black and one brown. Today I wore the first outfit and I'm super happy with it.

I've spent the weekend cleaning up my computer and digital photo files. The photos were a nightmare. Between the 2 Macs I've had and external drives, I somehow ended up with multiple copies of photos and videos. Most were just duplicates but I did encounter some batches that I had 4 copies of! And I have no idea what happened to give me 12 copies of some iPhone videos! I downloaded a duplicate finder and ran it a couple of times. When all was said and done I had deleted over 11,000 photos from my Mac. Also upgraded the Mac to Mojave and put all my files and photos in the cloud. That's going to allow me to delete the second user I had set up (stupidly I might add) to free up even more space. Saturday I took photos of several pieces of Corningware and Tupperware to list on eBay this week. This is stuff from the 70's and 80's that hasn't been used in years. Time to get rid of them. I am motivated because a pair of Douwe Egberts coffee mugs sold this weekend for a nice price - going to England. Once I get this lot of stuff listed, I need to pull anything else eBay out of the guest room.

I transfer all of my iPhone photos to my desktop at the end of the year. Then I keep them organized in folders by year and then month. I rarely use the desktop and it uploaded them into a windows photo app or something, I’m not sure. But I like them in my pictures folder, very simple for me to keep track of them. As I moved them , I deleted them from the app not realizing it was also deleting them from my folder I wanted them in. I spent over two hours trying to figure them out and got so annoyed I gave up. I was able to find them all in the recycle bin and restore them but all that work was for nothing and I’m still not sure how to fix it. They’re a mess!

Ok I have a minor update here. BFF said take all the stuff on the dresser and put it into paper bags. The take things out one by one. If I don’t use, it need it or want it, it goes. There is only a photo of DS on the dresser now (and an important doll that stays). I do have to go through the bags and I just need to be ruthless. At least everything is self-contained on the bed. It just needs to be gone through. I keep saying this. If I could post photos I would. I love going in there and not seeing anything on it. Maybe I will get motivated to start looking at stuff.

I will try, but it will be useless to do any cleaning before my kids go back to college. They trash the house! They have their mattresses from their beds on the floor in the family room so they can do nothing but lay around and watch tv/play on their phones all day. And dirty clothes are everywhere! So frustrating because I want to clean this house!

I find that if I take the items out of the area being decluttered, I am more successful in getting rid of things. If I am in the room and have mild interest in an item, I can simply just turn around and stash it someplace. If I bring a box from my bedroom into the dining room it means I have to bring whatever I keep BACK into the room and that is more work than just putting it in the donation box.
