Last night I started purging my papercrafting supplies and I'm proud of myself that I made a decent dent in things so far. Here's my issue though....I'm finding myself getting very overwhelmed with everything that needs to be looked through and tossed out...like my house is a mess at the moment because I have piles of crap waiting to be either donated or trashed so it's really holding me back waiting to do more because I feel like I'm just making my house look a mess.

Perhaps take a break from the purging and concentrate on getting the donations and trash out of the house. I find it helps if I make donation runs every couple of weeks (weekly if I have a lot). By emptying out the space they took up, you can actually see the progress you are making. I spent some time yesterday afternoon in the sewing room. I went through one shelf of clothing fabrics and pulled 2 pieces to get rid of. A third one is on the chopping block, but I need to make sure DD isn't interested in it. I also pulled 2 pieces of decorator fabric as well. Purchased one at the thrift store to maybe recover the dining chairs DD was using. She didn't like the fabric, we got rid of the chairs, so why is it still hanging around? The other is left from the lining when I made some den drapes...over 20 years ago! Went through my quilting fabrics (fat quarters and 1 yd pieces) to get out fabrics for some projects. Pulled over a dozen pieces that I'll never use (many were mom's) and added to the donation pile. While I was in there, I also did a quick run through 2 desk drawers and added a few thing to the donation bag and tossed some other things. Even the small amounts add up over time!

Great thread! I usually make lists on chalkboards I have in the kitchen. I got a lot done already, but still want to do much more. We live in a 3/2 apartment that's huge and you'd be amazed at the clutter that could quickly accumulate if you're not on top of it......... So:
*Clean up my desk area - clean & organize file boxes on both sides of desk (figure out where to stash them!) *Clean out my personal closet - organize my boxes in there too! *Clean all carpets and sectional (I have a carpet cleaning machine) *Go over all paperwork that needs to be looked at.
*Remind/help DD30 to CLEAN out her room (3 cats in there) - she needs to clean the carpet and wash everything in sight and organize her walk in closet too!
Other than that, I got to everything when I de-decorated. Every closet is in order. It's nice to see when things get clean and organized!

I knocked out my list last week. The only thing on my list this week is clean out the tupperware storage and clean out the last 4 drawers in the kitchen.
Half of our walls in our house are being painted this week, so there isn't much I can do.

You are all so inspiring! I've taken 3 carloads to our local Savers since Christmas. Started organizing the stuff for the kids consignment sale which is the 1st week of March. (I'm going to start inputting it into the computer this weekend.)I've also cleaned out 1/2 of my nightstand and a few random cupboards here and there. I've made a list to work on this weekend since we have a holiday on Monday.
My weekend goals are: Winter decor away and replace with Valentines Day Get my son some Lego storage Work on the hall coat closet

I saw these threads last year but never participated. I still need to read through this thread but have taken a few loads to goodwill, 6 bags of trash, and have 4-5 boxes of books/curriculum/HS stuff going to my daughter’s school on Tuesday. They will be having a book sale next month to raise money for picnic benches. I have tried selling some of these items on FB and am just tired of it, so donation it is.
Was on a roll at the beginning of the month but then I injuried my foot. Barely being able to walk for a week slowed me down but I’m back at it now.

It was bound to happen. A local thrift store has stopped taking donations for the next week. They said they don't have enough volunteers to process all the clothes they are receiving and have run out of room to store the donations. The shop manager says the surge in donations is because of the Netflix series "Tidying Up". Thrift Store Halts Donations, Thanks to KonMari Craze

I've missed participating in this thread the year I did I accomplished so much so TY! Everyone has some great goals! I have so many goals this year it's amazing how much crap collects when your life is on pause. January Goals Take down everything Christmas, tree and all the Christmas decor I have so much that will be a 2 day job As I take it all down I want to organize and go thru the boxes of stuff I didn't even put out and make piles for my 4 boys if they don't want it then it will get donated. In the fall we became empty nesters as our youngest moved out so his room became the catch all for our Christmas decorations, wrap and decor I had to take down to make room for my Christmas decor. It looks like a bomb went off in there LOL so need to clean that up. I'll add photos as I work on it so you can appreciate the task I have ahead of me UGH My scrap room It's become the catch all room dump site for a long time and it needs to be culled of non scrappy stuff. It also needs a overhaul. I got paid out for my vacation pay so for a portion of it I bought a kallax unit from IKEA and a tall Alex unit and a unit from Michael's. This month I want to set it all up in my room and shift stuff around. I will add photos as I know lots of us struggle with scrappy storage/organizing. These are both huge tasks and need to get done!! I'll update with photos and progress as I accomplish things! I've been busy trying to accomplish all my goals this month. In my scrap room I replaced a cube shelf unit that had canvas boxes in it with a kallax unit I already had and bought a larger kallax unit so I've been slowly re-organizing those cubes and adding some better containers for storage. I had to make a return trip to IKEA for more containers. I also bought one of taller alex units for all the embellishments I had on a clip it up. I also took a bunch of stamps I had on another clip it up and put them in a container from IKEA. I also bought from Michael's one of those wooden white storage things on rollers that hold 7 iris containers. I used this to replace the 2 3 drawer Rubbermaid 12x12 units. This holds all my Christmas paper and Christmas embellishments. I have about 5 more of those Rubbermaid units that store various themed embellishments and papers I want to replace those with more of the ones from Michael's. I bought one yesterday just need hubby to put it together. Hoping I only need one of them. I have a few bags of purged items I am going to try sell those and the clip it ups and Rubbermaid containers at a craft sale in February. Once my room is totally re-done I'll add photos. Regarding getting Christmas put away I took down all my Christmas home decor and put that away I have so much of it but it looks so awesome when it's up but it's a lot of work. Also took all the decorations off my tree today. Hubby will remove lights and out tree away tonight. I'll add photos at end of post so you can see the huge amount of Christmas stuff I have. I've got a few boxes of stuff I no longer want that if my kids don't want will go to good will. Regarding the spare room that will get tackled hopefully this weekend. I need to buy some huge Rubbermaid containers for all our outdoor lights. Thankfully my husband rethought the idea of storing the huge glittered reindeer in our basement. You'll see in one photo I had a little helper LOL. Boomer is so worried he's missing out in something apparently!

I’m glad I saved them as it won’t be long until he can put those sets together.

I think we started the small sets at four. My son was so dang active (exhausting) at that age, that the Legos challenged him and made him sit down and think for more than two minutes. He could look at the booklet and figure out the configurations. He would see how many of each piece and count them out. They were a lifesaver. I was hoping it would lead to a life of reading. Nope. But he did go into engineering.

I cleaned out DH's drawer of flannel pants and long sleeve tees, aka his retirement wardrobe.
I purged some, then Konmaried the drawer. I can't wait to hear what he says, lol.

Still working on the upstairs area..the main room in focused on is my craft area...I have even more stuff collected to be donated now. I bought a few over the door shoe organizers, but I’ll use them to store cleaning supplies in them in my hall closet. My house is a mess from pulling things out and making piles of stuff to donate...I called about getting a trash pickup (we're allowed 2/yr for stuff that’s not your everyday trash) they can’t come for weeks so I’m stuck with all this crap laying everywhere until I can haul it off to the alley.

I'm checking in, but I haven't made much progress this month. We took on a mini project that is impacting my ability to do anything else, but it should be done soon and I will be back at it! I feel like my entire house is in crisis mode and it is just depressing.
Edited to add my January goals:
1) Break down all Christmas & return all holiday boxes to the barn (waiting on mini project to be able to move holiday boxes to parlor to get ready for barn). 2) Sort through winter gear, put out what we need and return the extras/spares to the barn (ditto waiting on mini project). 3) Come up with a method for incoming paper and put it into place. Started this but need to keep going. 4) Go through 2018 receipts, collect important ones and shred the rest. Claim healthcare related receipts with FSA. 5) Create and start new planner (also one for PTA). Started both but need to organize both a bit more. 6) Use up what is in the pantry and freezer (aka January austere grocery plan). 7) Deliver one box of books to bookstore (for credit). 8) Clear phone and add new apps.

I am still working on my craft room . I bought three of those little three-tier carts and have organized a lot of things that I want to keep onto the shelves. I picked up some small plastic containers for things that I’ve been storing in random boxes. I think that I am still keeping too much stuff. There are things that I haven’t used in years that I am still hanging onto. My goal is to get everything off of the desk and mostly out of the cabinet so that I can see it and have easy access to it. That room is almost done. I haven’t bought any new craft items this month, so I am not adding to the problem right now.

I think that I am still keeping too much stuff. There are things that I haven’t used in years that I am still hanging onto. I find that while I have no problem getting rid of stuff in the rest of the house, when it comes to my sewing room all bets are off. What I've been doing is downsizing in "layers". I got through every few months and get rid of more each time. Last summer I did a huge purge and got rid of several bins of fabrics and supplies (filled the back of my SUV) with a garage sale table at a crop I go to. Almost none of it came home with me. Haven't missed a bit of it either. This month I have started pulling more fabrics to get rid of. I'm becoming more honest with myself on what fabrics I'm likely to use in the future. My tastes, as well as styles, have changed. Several years ago I attended a lecture at quilt festival that addresses creativity. One of the things mentioned was letting go of old projects because they tend to weigh you down and cause guilt. It's one of the things that will hold you back in your creativity. If you actually use the stuff that's fine. It's the stuff you don't use, haven't touched/seen in years, that is taking up space in your room and in your mind.

I really purged my Christmas decorating items this weekend. I either donated or gave away half my stash. Okay, I still have like 10 Rubber Maid totes, but I used to have twice as much. I am proud of myself.
Next up: the overflow clothes in the guest room and the gigantic laundry basket of socks.

Due to measles issue at my daughter’s school/local area, the five boxes of books will still be in my house for another week or two at minimum. No parents are allowed on campus since we have had an exposure in her campus. In fact due to the uniqueness of the school, they are actually going digital for at least the next week. At least I know those boxes will eventually leave. It’s times like this I miss my minivan because i could have just stored them there.
Spent yesterday sorting through legos. We have totes of them (and then a shelf of new kits waiting to be put together). My daughter is about done with legos (so she says) but my husband and I are not! So he has said he will put up shelves and we need to rebuild the sets that have fallen apart before tackling new sets. I still want to sort the smaller piece from the large to help with our journey.

I'm back again to try some more this week, even though the week is half over. I finished all the drawers/cabinets in the kitchen. But the biggest task is:
cleaning out fridge (I'll save that for the weekend)
In addition I want to: -go through all my paperwork and shred -organize my desk -go through all the pens and pencils, sharpen pencils and toss pens that are out of ink

I find it really soothing to do. Scribble, toss, organize. My mini-project is done and the parlor is clear, but I am a little hesitant to mess it up again to deal with the boxes of winter clothes. I also need to clear off the kitchen table. My goals are overtaking my progress, waahhhh!

I wanted to share a new to me organizing website/blog. The Home Edit is the organizing business of 2 women in Nashville. There are so many photos of closets, pantries, etc that they have organized. Definitely some good ideas there to incorporate while you are purging and decluttering!

I've had a situation of non-purging! Last summer I packed up two very large bags full of books and gifted them to my MIL (avid reader). Unfortunately she passed away earlier this month and ta-da, those books ended up back here. My plan was to literally put them in my car and take them to the charity store but my DS, who is a reluctant reader, was intrigued with several of the titles, so now there are approximately 15-20 books that are staying! AAaargh! Actually I really don't mind, especially if he reads some of them. And I was happy to see that my MIL had read quite a few of them, which I'm sure brought her pleasure.
The rest of the books did leave the house this afternoon and were delivered to the charity store.

Need to takle my office. Cleaning out files, filing new papers, etc. Next is the basement, which I've had on my list for about 9 years. However, I recently got divorced and the house is all mine. Silver lining - 1/2 the basement stuff is gone! So I'm halfway done! LOL
