Spent the better part of today making a birthday card for my daughter’s 25th in a few days and went to use some moonshine glimmer paste that was opened for the first time a couple of months ago only to discover that it was hard as a rock. Completely unusable and very disappointing. I happened to have another unopened jar, only used a very small amount, but now I’m thinking that it’s going to harden before I will be able to use it again! I put a piece of plastic wrap between the jar and the lid but I’m wondering if this will suffice or if this is a product that will harden unless it’s used quickly after opening.
After finishing the card I started to wonder about the state of the other Nuvo glimmer pastes I have purchased so I went to check. Low and behold one of them which had never been opened is hard as a rock and completely unusable. The seal on this particular jar was a styrofoam type whereas the others that are unopened are a foil type so I’m hoping they’ll be ok.
Then I searched for reviews and it turns out that I’m not alone. Some people said they contacted Tonic and received no response, or if they did basically Tonic wasn’t willing to do anything about the dried up paste. I emailed them about it so we shall see. It reminds me of the Nuvo a Embellishment Mousse that dried up after the first use too. Has anyone else had this happen? Did Tonic respond favourably?

I love Nuvo Glimmer Paste.
What I do is put the saran type plastic over it and press it onto the paste and up the sides so there are no air pockets. Just like it's a bowl of leftover guacamole (yes, sometimes we have leftover guac). So far that seems to be working for me. I do the same with the Ranger texture paste. You do lose the bit that sticks to the plastic when you remove it. But at $7.95 a jar the little bit is better than wasting the whole jar.

At Scrapbook Expo our embellishment mousse demonstrator said you can add a bit of water to it [the mousse] to revive it. I think the store/demo was Sparkle and Sprinkle. I'll look later and try to post a link.
I didn't find what I was looking for, but in the description for the EM it says :
The Embellishment Mousse is a very versatile and can add a lot of colour and texture to your projects. The Mousse can be used with a stencils to add a dimensional design to your card. You can also rub the Mousse directly on to paper using your finger, to add a textured look to it (This works particularly well with embossed paper). If you add a little water to the Mousse, because it is water based, it can also be used as paint. And if it is added to a spritzer with water, you can use it as a spray.
I did find an article that the Glimmer Paste is water-based also. So maybe you can scoop some out and try adding water to reconstitute it?

Oh man, that sucks! That would seriously put me off buying those products. I'll stick with the homemade texture concoction I made (which also dried up, but only cost pennies)
Use it or lose it, I guess...
I hope you can revive what you have or get some relief from Tonic.

I had 3 bottles of Nuvo drops that were rock hard - they were previously unopened. I had to throw them out. I was so disappointed. So, I'm not surprised the glimmer pastes dry up so fast, either. I love Tonic but I've been disappointed in this kind of product.

I don't have experience with this exact product, but I feel your pain. I always hesitate to buy some of the mixed media type supplies because, even though I love them, I find that they often dry out before I use them more than once or twice. One of my goals this year is to do some "making ahead" with my texture pastes. I figure if I can make several backgrounds or generic embellishments I will feel more like I have used them and less bad if they are dried up the next time I open them.

I love Tonic products, glimmer paste, Nuvo drops, embellishment mousse, but I have to say that the quality really seems to be disappointing! I did put a small piece of plastic wrap on the glimmer paste I just opened so hopefully that will help. I'm not at all happy about the one jar I have that was never even opened and is completely dried up. I emailed a representative from Tonic that I have previously dealt with regarding my rock solid embellishment mousse (and who I will add was very helpful). She responded this morning by saying she had passed on my email to someone else that I should speak to, but I have yet to hear from her. I haven't checked my Nuvo drops but I'll be sure to have a look at them when I get home from work tonight! GiantsFan, no amount of any liquid would have saved my embellishment mousse. Tried it and even went to YouTube to see if I should be adding something different, but apparently once it has dried up, it's ready for the trash. Tonic ended up sending me new jars of the ones that had dried up along with replacement lid liners for the ones that were still ok. But the lid liner of the second dried up jar of glimmer paste that I had never even opened is the same as the replacement liners Tonic sent for the embellishment mousse so I'm not optimistic that they will help at all. Another product I have to check on when I get home tonight. At the end of the day I'm not entirely sure that I would buy these types of products from Tonic again unless I know I'm going to be using them up quickly! I'll keep you posted as to what Tonic does about my dried up pastes!

I had that on my wishlist. Looks like no. I used to spritz my mousse and the one time I didn’t it dried up very qiuickly. I poured a lot of water in it and stirred it and it made a concoction that I can use with my finger to add a little shine but it’s mostly still chunky. Not really rehydrate-able after it’s gone hard. Someone on another forum said that Tonic was using a new top with a plastic liner instead of the old cardboard one and were aware of its short life.

Ugh thats incredibly disappointing. That an unopened jar has completely dried up is ridiculous. Obviously something wrong with the product or the packaging for that to happen. I bought a jar of embellishment mousse to try out ( haven’t as yet) but that really puts me off trying any other similar products.

I had the same experience - mine wasn't rock hard but on it's way. I mixed in some water and then also put about a teaspoon of water on top and let it sit for a couple days. A few stirs later and it seems to be ok.

One of my glimmer pastes looks smoooth after rehydrating and stirring. I used a ton of water so I’m not comfy stenciling with it. It might warp the paper. The other one is chunky but slightly moist. I did find this smooshing technique video that I thought was pretty cool. You can use inka gold or Nuvo. I don’t think it would matter if the texture wasn’t perfect since you spritz a lot of water anyway. www.stampingwithloll.com/2015/10/smooshing-with-inka-gold.html

Mine turned rock hard too. I added a tiny bit of water, and it made no difference. I had several jars and threw them away. Very frustrating. Not too impressed with this company. Several of my Nuvo drops got hard too.

For anyone who has dried up Nuvo Glimmer Paste, I highly recommend contacting Tonic. I sent them a photo of my two dried up pastes and within a day they responded telling me they had a bad batch and asking me for my address. I received the replacements last week! I doubt that the batch was bad and imagine that these pastes will dry up quickly after opening, but now that I know that, I will have to plan out a few projects in advance so I can use up the paste shortly after opening. I did use a piece of plastic wrap on the one I opened before Christmas... I should check it to see how it's holding up!

Oh wow, this was on my wishlist and now I'm wondering about my hoard of nuvo drops! I will probably pass on the paste now. But it is an incentive for me to actually USE the stuff I have. I'm glad they sent you replacements and I will be interested to see how they hold up!

I bought some texture paste(white) and some Heidi Swapp shimmer paste(2$ on clearance a while back) I just scoop a little out and tint with acrylic paint. I love the glimmer from the HS one, it’s really pretty
