What are your favourite and most used KitchenAid attachments?
Are they easy to clean?
Are there any attachments that you would not recommend?
I received a mixer for Christmas, and I am researching my options.
Thanks!

I have the ice cream maker, and I love it. It is easy to use and easy to clean. And easy to store. LOL I used to have a Cuisinart machine, and I never used it because it was huge, and I had to store it, and I just rarely got it out. The KA one is way less trouble. The bowl stays in the freezer, and the paddle attachment is stored in a little bin with my other KA attachments.
I just got a few other attachments for Christmas--the pasta roller set and a grater/slicer set. I haven't tried them out yet, but I am really excited to try homemade pasta.

I don’t have any extra attachments for mine, but I did go buy one of the paddles with the rubber scraper on the side and an extra bowl for my 4.5 qt tilt head. It’s nice having a spare bowl and need to get an extra for my new 6 qt but dang they’re expensive!
I think of all the things that are available to get, an extra bowl is really a must.

I have the pasta roller set and I love it. If you currently own a pasta roller, it isn't necessary to get, but it is nice

We have...
Ice cream attachment
Pasta rollers
Sausage grinder/stuffer
Grain mill
All are awesome and easy to clean. The ice cream one lives in the freezer.

I have the grater set and the peeler/spiralizer set.
So far I have used the grater for cheese and carrots.
I have used the spiralizer for zoodles.
Both are easy to clean and use.
I got mine at Kohls using kohls cash and reward money so I paid $0. They were also on sale

I have the pasta attachment (smooth roller/fettuccini set) that I use weekly.
Of course, I use it for rolling fondant for even thickness for cutouts for cakes, and rarely use the fettuccini attachment, but I've had it for several years now and it is still going strong!

The silicone edge blade is a must for me and what I use 90% of the time. I have the meat grinder and only used it once. It's a pain to clean and just easier to go to the store and have the meat department grind whatever I need. Would love to have a second bowl because I have a couple of recipes where that would be handy. I used to have a Cuisinart machine, and I never used it because it was huge, and I had to store it, and I just rarely got it out. The KA one is way less trouble. The bowl stays in the freezer Funny how everyone is so different in their likes and preferences! We have the Cuisinart ice cream maker and use it all the time. It hasn't been a problem to store and we also keep the bowl in the freezer all the time.

I have an extra bowl (must!), 1 extra regular paddle (got on FB from someone whose mixer died) and the rubber edge paddle.

Thanks for asking this question. I'm a new KitchenAid owner with a birthday this month and wondering which attachments would be good adds.

It had places to put "mix ins" and it wouldn't fit in any of my cabinets. I stored it in the box on my walk in pantry floor, kind of in a back corner. I just rarely got it out to use. It was an impulse purchase. LOL Looking back, I should have gotten a smaller one.

The KitchenAid mixer was a "surprise" gift from my DD for Christmas and "thanks for helping with the wedding."
I had told her about the special anniversary edition mixer with the hobnail bowl. This was not a gift suggestion, but I really like that bowl! She bought me the 5qt Artisan instead, and picked a colour that she liked better. I was certainly not expecting such a gift.
I have been using a Hamilton Beach stand mixer and was happy with it. The only issue was some bad feelings attached to it. On her death bed, my Mother said "make sure your Dad gives you the KitchenAid." He kept it, and started to make bread. He got the HB mixer free with points and gave it to me.
I know that it is both silly and immature to connect bad feelings to an item. Now, I have something given with love, and DD will take the old mixer.
I have already purchased a white patterned ceramic bowl that is similar to the hobnail bowl.
DH thinks the ice cream maker would be a good idea.
I can't make a decision, yet.
Thanks for the input.

The silicone edged paddle is a 100% must have. Agree. That’s the only extra attachment that I bought.

I have:
pasta roller meat grinder spiralizer
Love them all, don't use them that often, but when I do I am filled with gratitude. Buy the ones that suit what you cook.

Well I broke my rubber edged paddle, and haven’t replaced it yet. Primarily because I’m not sure which one fits my model. And my Kitchen Aid has not been out of the cupboard since that damn paddle broke. So I’d say that paddle is a must

Thanks LeaP. I was waiting for someone to say that!
I do know that I would not use a meat grinder, grain grinder or sausage maker. I am unlikely to use a juicer.
I have never made pasta. At the moment, the spiralizer and the ice cream maker sound good!

I got my KA mixer the Week before Christmas because the enablers on this board pointed out the great price at Best Buy! LOL I have gotten a small 3 quart bowl that came with a whisk/paddle that fits the bowl lift and its an amazing addition! A lot of the recipes I make have a cake type of base with a topping of some sort and the five quart bowl and three quart bowl are like BFFs in the kitchen! I also got a rubber/silicone edge beater for the big bowl. We have affectionately named the Bowls Big Bertha and her Little Bitch. What can I say, I live in a house of males who occasionally help cook. I will be getting the pasta rollers and the pasta press since we make a lot of our pasta fresh, and retiring the ancient Atlas pasta machine. Next it will be a toss up on the metal meat grinder/sausage stuffer or ice cream maker. You all have given some good insights on why we need the attachments!

Extra whisks, bowls and paddles are by far the most used accessories I have. I also have the Spirilizer (I think there are better ones on the market that use elbow grease but if you want the machine powered one this one definitely works), flat noodle maker (haven't used it yet - oops), Ice cream bowl (lent to my sister because I don't have space in the freezer for it) and meat grinder (used last week to make sausages and it reminded me all over again why we never use it - lol)

I just got the grater/slicer attachment, and I love it. I really hate grating cheese by hand, and would get out my food processor just for that. The KA attachment is so much easier to clean.
I got my niece the ice cream set for Christmas. She was so excited!

At work today I saw the food processor attachment. Hadn’t seen it before. I agree the silicone batter scraper attachment is a must have.
I would also like the bowl lid to put it in the fridge for certain recipes.

I have the bowl scraper paddle. I use that all of the time. I also have the meat grinder (got it at a garage sale for DH) but we have never used it.

The only thing I have bought for my KitchenAid is the scrapping paddle. There have been many times I have wished I had another bowl, but have not spent the money on one. I don’t want to live without my KitchenAid, though.

Meat grinder/strainer
We buy quarter cows and I use it to make ground beef out of the beef cuts we won’t use. I use the strainer part when I make applesauce or can tomatoes sauce.
Also, the lid for the bowl with an indent in the middle is invaluable. It keeps the dust out of the bowl when it sits on the counter and covers food in the bowl when I need to refrigerate it.
And, the silicone paddle.

First, make sure you get the extra SMALL bowl that will nest inside the bigger bowl. Get TWO scrapper paddles and two lids are handy to have. I like the shredder/slicer attachment, the newer version that does NOT have the meat grinder. So much easier to clean after shredding cheese, zucchini or carrots than the food processor is. Food processor is now down to only crushing graham crackers and mixing the melted butter in to make graham cracker crust. I have a total of 4 metal bowls, 2 small that fit inside the two large, lids for all, and the glass bowl with lid, 2 slicone paddles and of course the regular one, whisk and dough hook that came with it. And if I go on a cooking spree, I can have many of the parts dirty in a couple of hours!

I have an Artisan 5 qt tilt top ka. I would LOVE to have a smaller bowl to do whipped cream in. But they do not say what size mixer they are for. Also, do you need a smaller paddle with the smaller bowl?
