Anyone watching the new season? I didn't think there could be many more stories to tell after the first couple seasons and just feel a mix of sadness and anger that the "church" is still getting away with so much. I just can't get over how financially driven this "religion" is. Every church I know encourages tithing but doesn't charge thousands of dollars for bible classes. How is it not a bait and switch to tell people they can get their money back if they want to leave and then tell them too bad, so sad, everything was a donation? Or to tell them there will be a credit on their account that they can use in a future life?

It really is shocking what they manage to get away with. People are so lost and desperate to find peace in their lives, and Scientology takes advantage of that.

I have been watching too and just when I think it can't possibly get worse, it does. What kills me too is that all that money is tax exempt.
It is also funny to me how you hear over and over about people being disconnected from their families because they leave Scientology but yet they release an official statement saying that disconnecting doesn't occur. Unbelievable!!
It is mind blowing how much money they pretty much force out of their members.

Are there any Scientology members on our board? I can't imagine how you could function in the "real world" (have access to internet, TV and print journalism) and not have enough information to make an informed decision that Scientology is not a religion at all but a mechanism of power created by a very warped individual that found people that wanted to be lead. The money isn't so much an issue (but is clearly outrageous) with me as the mental destruction it causes and the fact they are tax exempt.

If I remember correctly, it is one of the things they get in trouble for doing.

I generally don't care for this type of show and its format, but I too was surprised to see I was missing the next season. I like Leah and her family, so I find the whole thing very interesting.

Not sure I’ll ever understand how anyone can follow a religion founded by a failed sci-fi writer🙄

I know Leah said they are not supposed to read anything against Scientology online, but surely they all couldn’t live off line in this day and age.

If they are celebrities they probably have “handlers” doing the posting for them.

Well you can't possibility tell me Tom Cruise can't get on the internet.. hahaha.. but he is so brain washed he would defend them to no end. (and I LOVED me some Tom Cruise)
Yeah I kept thinking how much more could Leah report on but yet there is still more out there. I hope there will be an episode that might go deeper into Leah's story and other celebrities that are still in it. And I haven't seen much on her family since her other show went off the air. Would like to see her daughter and how she has grown since then.

The brainwashing they do upon their members is typical of any cult. It infuriates me that the government hasn't done anything to stop the stealing - it seems like the IRS, etc are afraid because of all of the lawsuits Scientology files when they are being investigated. And Shelly Miscavige is definitely being held against her will!

And Shelly Miscavige is definitely being held against her will! I agree - she was there by her husband's side and at all events and then boom - she is suddenly never seen again. The police did check in on her and said they saw her but that just means they saw her. I'm sure she was told what to say and that the encounter was brief. She knows WAY too much and if she ever wanted to leave Scientology, she'd never be allowed to do so because they would not want his secrets getting out.

I also find the whole surveillance thing really scary. When Mike drove to the compound where they thought Shelly Miscavige was being held, within seconds private security was on his phone alerting someone, taking video of Mike's car. There was a real sense of danger. That he really needed to get the hell out of there. I really hope all the effort Leah and Mike are putting into this pays out. And what a great example it would be to show that ordinary people can take down a seemingly untouchable giant.

He is kept very busy marching his way up the ladder or hanging out with Miscavige. Leah has talked in past seasons about how every minute of her hiatus time while filming was spent in Clearwater doing classes while everyone else was doing other projects, hanging with family or traveling.

I know people that aren't online. Not many but some. I guess if you never get started, you don't know what you are missing. I also think that if your are just a parishioner and not higher up in the church (donate and show up), there are different rules.

My sister lives near the Clearwater building.. so it's one of the 'must' things to drive by when visiting her.. (I haven't been there).. but she said it is so creepy to even be around that area. She says she even feels like she is being watched and/or going to be nabbed at any given second. She said it is just so weird to see them walking around.. so very cult'ish.

I spend Christmas in Indo ever year, first flying into John Wayne airport. We drive up that way and I'm always on the lookout for runaways too!

Just watched this weeks episode. In reference to the man who spent $35,000+ and was ready to divorce his wife....what are people lacking or missing in themselves to be this ignorant? This guy was not born into the cult, that’s a whole different scenario. Kids or not, that wife should run far far away from that moron. I really have no sympathy for this guy.
I think what Leah & Mike are doing is really brave and probably quite dangerous but I’m glad they are continuing with this series. This cult needs to be brought down.

One time, there was concern about a new friend of hers that had gone missing. He'd recently left Scientology and they were afraid he'd been taken by cult members from the org there. Eventually he was found and was okay, but that is a real concern there for those who leave the "church".

I watched all of the episodes for this season in three days. I rarely binge watch anything, but have been scrapping like crazy and this is the perfect thing to listen to while putting together kits.
The church really has their shit together to keep people in the church or if they leave, they have to pay so much in order to keep in contact with family. It all sounds crazy. I can see them going after anyone in the IRS who would try to keep them from getting a tax exempt status. Look at what they did to the guy who hired Mike. Crazy people.
