dh and I are ready to quit this show. Not sure if we will give it one more chance tonight or not. That's how we feel about The Blacklist. We stopped watching Grey's this year. So I really do understand giving up on a show if it's no longer working for you.

I almost did that with Walking Dead but so glad I stuck around as this past season has been really good! My BFF and I watch together and we have also been debating about giving it up this season. For us, it’s the Vietnam story line. We just don’t care. We don’t understand the need to go that far back. Jack died. He’s dead. Now we know how he died. Move on. I like the current time story lines of the Randall, Kate, and Kevin. Every time they go back to Jack and Rebecca I pick up my phone and zone out of the show.

We don’t understand the need to go that far back I think because somehow the brother is going to be brought in to the story, and we need to see the back story. Along with the pendent he gave Kevin. Lots of back stories explained. It's how this series has always worked.

I don’t care about the Vietnam story, I really dont care about Jack, and I don’t care about the brother. I think it’s just the series trying way too hard to keep Jack in the show when really his storyline is over.

Well, it really doesn't matter if you don't care. I'm just telling you WHY they are doing what they are doing, most likely. They've always done the show in flashbacks and back stories. It's what made it what it is. Learning the history of everyone. This just cont's it on. I'm sure if the brother comes on, we will see more back story/history from him.

I'm loving the Vietnam backstory. I think my very favorite episode of This is Us is the episode titled "Vietnam" - the entire episode took place with Jack in Vietnam and didn't show any of the present day characters. I thought it was so well done.

Oh thank you, genius, for explaining this. The show has flashbacks? It’s more than one timeline? Really? I didn’t get it until you explained why. Wow. You’re the only one who sees it coming that Jack’s brother is going to be on the show. Shocking, should have had a spoiler alert. Yes, we all know why. In this thread we are having a conversation. Welcome to it. A pea asked why people are losing interest. I answered with why I am losing interest. I wasn’t talking to you.

I think it’s just the series trying way too hard to keep Jack in the show when really his storyline is over. I can see what you are saying. They decided to keep Jack going once the show proved to be such a hit, but I really don't think the writer's ever intended to write him out of the story. They are peeling back layers of the family and individual family members each week and we are learning about everyone as we move along in the story. I personally think Jack's story is not over...meaning we are seeing the impact his life has/had on his kids...choices he made and how they played out even after he was gone...things like that.

Someone needs to explain to me...why was Randall's election night in January? Election day is in November, unless of course it is a special election, which this wouldn't be because he was running against the incumbent. So why was the election in January?
I wondered how Kevin had a photo of the stadium, when the house was destroyed by fire but...then I got to thinking that I believe Kevin's room was in the concrete basement, so perhaps it didn't get burned or have much water damage.
I thought it was pretty good last night. I'm so glad it is back.

Good questions...although I will admit I don't think of those things when I watch shows...I never seem to make those connections!

I'm with a couple others, I definitely don't care if I see the show or not. Co-workers talk about how they cried etc, I can't say that I ever cried watching the show. It just doesn't do it for me.

Last night was one of the few episodes that I didn't cry (well except at the end when Toby got the stadium gift for her).. that was sweet, but I will cry when someone wins big on the Price Is Right.. I cry over all kinds of weird stuff so this shows usually makes me do the ugly cry.. lol

I did in the beginning but it started to feel mellow dramatic instead of just being a drama that I emotionally disconnected the show. I mostly watch out of habit.

I almost did that with Walking Dead but so glad I stuck around as this past season has been really good! It just isn't holding our interest this season. I think the show is falling into the trap that a lot of shows fall into, where the characters become unrealistic or over the top. I just feel like this is where this show is going and the storylines aren't enough to keep me watching. We might watch last night's episode this weekend while it snows, but if it can't keep our attention, we'll be done.

DH also questioned Randall's election taking place in January. I thought it might have been a runoff election, but it's not... Weird.
Justin Hartley has been all over social media, reminding people to watch... I think their ratings must be lagging.

I was wondering about the election in January, too. I just assumed that I missed something.
And yes, when Jack ran back in to save the dog, he grabbed several photo albums.
I loved it when Toby and Kate were talking about what to pass down to their kids. I get it Toby, I get it! I'm too invested in Kate's pregnancy. I get how precious a pregnancy is after a loss. And with fertility issues. It just hits close to home. I don't ever watch the show unless I'm alone, just because of that. I alternately hate it and think "they get it."

Watched the first four episodes of the season, and then just disconnected. Had many episodes on the DVR and deleted them. Think I'm done.
