You can get a wireless mouse to use with the laptop. I have to use one with mine because I suck at using the touch pad. I got mine on Amazon for about $15.

Get a wireless mouse and keyboard. They're very easy to set up!

I had to get a wireless mouse to use with my newest laptop, too. The touchpad is not responsive half the time, it's located in such a way that I can't NOT move the cursor while I'm typing (this was not a problem on my prior laptop), AND it won't let me set the touchpad settings in such a way that I can use the edge of the touchpad to scroll up and down. The real trick for me was to find the touchpad settings and tell it to completely deactivate the touchpad when the wireless mouse's dongle is attached to the computer.

I too have a wireless mouse for my laptop. I don't like the trackpad. Or I use my phone.

I hate laptops too. You can add a regular keyboard and mouse, no problem. That is what I have done in the years when my desktop died, but we had a spare laptop to let me use.

If you sit at a table or desk to use the laptop, an external keyboard and mouse is very easy to use by just plugging them into the laptop, however, the screen maybe to low and you will get a neck ache. Might help to sit it up on something, but remember it also needs to breath, so something like a wire basket makes a cheap laptop riser or you can buy a laptop riser made specifically for that purpose. Here is a link to an example of what I'm describing. Laptop Riser

I use a wireless trackball mouse with my laptop, I don't like the touchpad. I hope you can get used to your new laptop quickly if your desktop dies. It's hard switching when you're comfortable with what you have and know how to use it! My laptop started crashing at the beginning of the month and then the hard drive died. I really like this one, thankfully I was able to buy a new hard drive and my husband fixed it.

thanks for all the tips my son gave my husband a tablet but the keyboard is small. I looked at my keyboard and it seems pretty big...almost real size. I can still get a mouse to go with it

I use a wireless mouse, too. I do not get along with the built in mouse or whatever it is called. The keyboard is a bit different, but you get used to it.

Be sure if you get a wireless mouse that it can be used with your Apple laptop. Some of the newer laptops do not have a USB port (mine does not). Then you have to get an additional adapter for that! Apple does like to nickel and dime you.
I have quite a few computers/laptops and I swear, not having a mouse is crazy. I admire people who can speed away on the mouse pad!

I have a laptop and I use a separate keyboard, mouse and two large screen monitors. It’s basically the same as having a desktop. The exception is when I travel for work. Then I use it like a traditional laptop, although I bring my wireless mouse.

mine died for the last time. we had planned on finding a new tower right before my husband went in to the hospital. I have HD and can't drive and I do not have any local freinds left . so I desparately needed to be online with all my freinds. I told my daughter that. she saw a tower in our living room with a box with the rest of it she is pretty good at computer stuff thankfullyy so she and her boy freind tested and hooked it up and placed it in my desk it was my husbands . I am so glad he had it my hussband really wanted the apple laptop my son gave me for xmas.. he took it to the hospital..my daughter showed him how to use it.. he was watching movies, tv, music and is an avid reader too so my daughter showed him the library and books he can buy or get free
