I just watched Ellen scare Sarah Paulson for the umpteenth time and wondered how others felt about this 'prank' that Ellen plays.

I think it’s so well known that the guests must realise it might happen to them during the interview.

I think that prank is getting old, so I don't see it all that funny.

I voted 'other' because it just seems stupid to me know. Funny a few times, with the right people. Now... meh.

I’ve never seen it but I voted mean because I hate it when people scare me. Does anyone like it?! Especially while being watched by millions on TV?

I'll go with generally mean. I've had a few times a friend scared me and it was funny. But mostly I find it tends toward being mean.

I don't watch Ellen but I don't like it when someone is the butt of a joke that scares them, embarrasses them or otherwise makes them uncomfortable. It is just not funny. I like jokes that make everyone laugh and feel good.

I love Ellen. It's mean and stupid to scare people. The world is plenty f(#(*$ing scary and mean enough, thanks.

I thought it was funny the first few times she did it. The novelty has worn off for me. But I have to think if you go on her show at this point, you should know that it is a possibility.
I haven’t watched in quite awhile, but I still crack up every time I see clips of the bit she did with Dennis Quaid repeating the lines she was feeding him at the coffee shop. “Dennis Quaid is here!” 😂.

It’s just childish. It must appeal to the same group of people who think/thought that Punked was great.

This thread is so timely for me as my family and I just had this conversation recently. We agreed that it comes off mean. I will admit the first few times we laughed but now we all think about the other person. No one ever seems to prank ellen. I also do not enjoy some of her games where the contestants are spun around meanly or while scrambling blindfolded, they are punched in the stomach by the small poles going up that WEllen controls. I try to keep in mind that some might enjoy it but I am not sure if I would or not. Maybe they tolerate because they get to meet Ellen and always are rewarded for their participation. Where else could an adult get away with playing these kinds of games.

Input both because I think it depends on the person and the scare. A good friend of hers or someone who doesn’t mind would be funny. It is getting old.

I think it’s mean. I also wonder if anyone has gotten hurt. When she scared Taylor Swift while she was walking into the bathroom, Taylor fell while wearing heels. She could’ve twisted an ankle or hit her head on the wall.

I despise pranks and practical jokes. I think the gist of them is embarrassing someone or making them have an awkward reaction. I fail to see the humor in that.

I said mean because I don’t appreciate being scared and don’t find it funny.

It seems lame to me. Maybe it was funny the first 3-5 times - but now? just taking up air time. I've always appreciated Ellen but no longer record to watch later, there's too much fluff and little content, even humor.

I like Ellen, but I HATE her game show stuff, and the pranks. It's just dumb and mean. I don't know why her people don't tell her that. I've felt that way for quite awhile. She doesn't even talk to people anymore, she just plays those dumb games. I want to hear what people think, or about their projects.

I hope she doesn't scare the wrong person. My dh has PTSD and is slightly hard of hearing. He would react before he thought. Some guy at work came up behind when he was sitting at his desk and tapped him on the shoulder. Dh didn't hear him approach so he jumped up and turned around with both fists up and backed him up about 10 steps before he realized what he was doing. Dh apologized to the guy and felt really bad. Now his coworkers look out for him and wave off anyone who comes up behind him.

I voted other because I think it's stupid just like most of her show. What happened to talk shows where people actually talk to one another? Now most of them are playing loud dumb games and people are screaming to the top of their lungs-omg. And now NBC has Ellen's game show at night??? Can't they find anything else to show? ANYTHING would be better than that. I don't watch any of this but my mom watches her in the afternoon- drives me insane. I usually try to leave and go somewhere... I guess that was more than you wanted to know!

Frankly anyone still scared by her while doing the interview isn’t paying attention, she reaches for her left lapel right before someone jumps out of the box or comes out to scare them. I don’t hate the scaring, but it isn’t my favorite. I don’t mind being scared though, so there is that. My all time favorite segment is when she sends Andy through the Haunted Houses, I hope she never stops doing that.
I don’t like the games with people in the audience, but I like 5 second rule or hot hands with the celebrities, those are often very entertaining .

Although I don't generally watch her show, I have seen it a couple of times, I don't like it and I think it's inappropriate and not funny. *maybe* funny around a time when people might expect to get scared, like a Halloween show, but apart from that, no.

What would happen if a guest got injured??? I saw Julia eat it into the floor of a bathroom. Others were so scared they went down hard.
Its fun if the person enjoys it but most don't. It's embarrassing. I LOVE the Halloween haunts but I just wish those she sent actually wanted to go.
I feel sorry for Andy.
