Just got a notice for an attempt of delivery because they do not leave packages unattended? We live in a house with a nice covered front porch. It was our snowshoes and we got a big storm this morning.. BOOOOOOOOOO. Is this new?
UPDATE: And it's crazy4scraps for the win! My DH went to post office to pick up package and he said the box was HUGE (sent from Amazon)... like hard to get through the front door... so I guess it was oversized and probably a combination of not wanting to get out of the truck. Most often Amazon will deliver direct to our door, so not sure why it was handed-off to USPS to deliver. Never can predict. Thanks for all of the replies.

Not in my neighborhood. In fact, they are the worst about leaving stuff in plain sight.

Maybe the sender requested a signature?

I’ve noticed over the years USPS makes up their own rules when it’s convent for them no matter what it may state officially.

We have found our packages on our lawn, by our uncovered side door on a rainy day, and under our rain spout at the corner of our house instead of our covered front porch. DH put a sign on our side door for them to please use the front porch and a package has yet to land there. One time, while walking my dog across the street, I watched the driver get out of the truck, walk half way up my lawn, and heave the package the rest of the way so it landed on our front walk. DH operates ham radio, and sends his equipment out for repair. Lucky for us the package was not radio equipment.

I would guess that the sender required a signature —we have a big covered front porch and they leave packages all the time! Most will ring the doorbell just to let me know if it’s here.
(That’s when he isn’t trying to cram everything in the mailbox).
Now I’ve had a few packages too big for the mailbox in which I received notification that they were going to be delivered that same day, yet nothing was delivered and no slip to pick up. I call the po to let them know I didn’t receive it and that the mailman was already long gone. It usually shows up the next day or so.

Maybe the sender requested a signature? Or if the package is insured, I can see them not wanting to leave it.

I have to say it's "make up their own rules" here as well. They definitely leave them...all over. In fact, the last two times we had packages delivered they left packages at our front door in such a way that we couldn't open the door -- at all! Twice! I panicked the first time before I remembered we have two sets of sliding glass doors and weren't actually trapped inside. We had to trudge through knee deep snow drifts both times to access the front door to dislodge these packages. FUN!

Mine never leaves packages no matter how big or small. I get a notice to go the the post office to pick it up. Irritates the daylights out of me when amazon decides to ship by USPS instead of by fedex.

My bet is your postal carrier didn't want to bother carrying the box to your front porch.

The only time mine doesn’t leave the package (or envelope) is if it requires a signature. Usually it’s on my front porch which is not visible from the street. But I remember one time, many years ago, when they left it on the driver’s seat in my unlocked car in the driveway.

Oh, that would annoy the heck out of me, especially since you got snow today. I’m heading out to go snowshoeing in the mountains in about an hour...hope you’re able to get out today too!

I've had them place a package in the mail box that was WAY too big for it AND THEN held the rest of our mail because 'the box was full'. 🤯😡🤬 I had to pick up the rest of the mail at the post office. I'm not saying all driver's are like this, but there are definitely some that make up their own rules.

They said the package was too large to put in mailbox... obviously.. it's a package, not a letter. Driver probably did not want to get out of the truck because it's snowing.

I've voted they make up their own rules since the day I was gardening in the front yard and watched our carrier deliver the mail to the box across the street. After she left I walked over to get our mail. I was not happy to see a notice card that she tried to deliver a package but no one was home.

How big is oversized? Maybe it is too big to fit in their Jeep or van?

How big is oversized? Maybe it is too big to fit in their Jeep or van? It is 24 inch snow shoes with telescoping poles. I think that would fit in the truck. Who knows. I bet they did not want to walk in the snow. They needed my snow shoes...lol

I ordered a large sized pooper scooper shovel thing a couple years ago and it came in a box that was almost big enough to bury me in. Had to have been around 2.5’x2.5’x6’. No lie! But that one came on the UPS truck.

We were getting a delivery one day and the mail man left a note like that - he was just a few doors down the street so my daughter went up to him in his truck- box wasn’t even big- he just didn’t want to get out of the mail truck and walk to our door.

It was 2 pairs of small sized, 21 inch snow shoes in a bag...guess they put them together...idk...crazy amazon shipping..like others have suggested...ironic that it was snow shoes to use for a big storm that happened that day....ironic indeed... cheers..

When we’ve ordered blinds from Home Depot they deliver them to our garage! Yup! They stand them up next to our garage door. We’ve been very lucky it hasn’t been raining or snowing when they’ve delivered. They don’t put them on our covered front porch. I’m also glad that it hasn’t been windy or I would of driven over them backing out of the garage.
