Well. I’m really disappointed in Cricut discontinuing the Cuttlebug and it’s accessories. I’m on a spending freeze and I really need new plates. Bah humbug. Has anyone read if they are replacing it with something better? I do already have a Gemini machine, but used the Cuttlebug for the Hot Foiling machine. I don’t think it works with a Gemini. Off to try to find Cricut plates before they disappear. help.cricut.com/hc/en-us/articles/360009501973-Cricut-Cuttlebug-FAQ

TFS. I love my Cuttlebug so I better go find some replacement plates before they are gone! Maybe they are coming out with something else. There are a lot of other manual die cut machines on the market so it might be hard to keep current, though the Cuttlebug has been out for a long time.

I am pretty sure that I read that they are not replacing it with anything. I love my cuttlebug even though I have a scan n cut and a cricut

Well this isn’t the first Provo Craft has discontinued a product on short notice. Sorry that happened. Hope you can find those extra plates.

Thanks! I go check that out. I’m considering getting a 2nd machine because I use mine so much.

That is disappointing. I was thinking of getting another one. Mine went to Cuttlebug heaven last year & I miss it even though I have the Big Shot. I loved that little machine.
I don't think they will replace it either. Cricut has been wanting to become a tech craft company for a long time, unless they make a Cuttlebug that is electronic.

I can understand discontinuing the machine, but also all the replacement parts? That's really a downer for anyone who owns one. Plates are a consumable, so unless you go with one of the alternatives or find a 3rd party solution, not making them anymore renders the Cuttlebug dead in the water. Stories like this are one of the things that make me really leery of dedicated 'craft' machines; no aftermarket support.

FYI - There are plates on Ali Express that should work. C plates are 5mm and B plates are 3mm thick. I think I did a search for something like 'cutting plates' on their site when I saw them.

I cracked a plate in half not long after I got it 10+ years ago, still works fine 😂 but maybe I should look into plates now

I was wondering if there were ‘knock offs’ available. I’ve been very reluctant to order from Ali Express because I have no way to not use a credit card and I refuse to make them vulnerable to hacking. Plus, there is all of the lack of ethics in knowingly buying a counterfeit product. I think the fact Cricut is discontinuing the Cuttlebug and the accessories is a game changer. I’m buying some official plates, but will certainly not be reluctant to go the counterfeit route in the future.

thank you! Just got some extra plates. My space is very small and the bigger machine lives in the closet. Use my Cuttlebug all the time.

In the last 3 years I have used only my Credit card on Ali and my Debit card for almost all U.S. purchases. In that time I have had my debit card hacked 4 times and my credit card hacked zero times. I don't save it on the site, I just punch the numbers in each time.

Your CC info only goes to AliExpress, not to the vendors themselves - just like eBay. All the same if you're worried, go to your bank and ask for a second credit card with a low limit. Then only use it for online shopping. Keeps your credit and your liability safe. I don't think replacement cutting plates are 'knock offs', unless all replacement car parts, or plumbing parts, or house repair items are also knock offs. AliEx doesn't usually try to pass its goods off as official CuttleBug products from what I've seen.

I’m buying some official plates, but will certainly not be reluctant to go the counterfeit route in the future. One of my CCs offers an option to generate a single use card number. I use those when shopping on AE. I've only shopped there a few times (most times I can find the same things on eBay for around the same price and with enough searching if I'm patient enough) because you can only choose all carts or one cart to check out with and sometimes I'd like to buy from a few sellers, but not from every seller I have stuff in my cart from. Partly due to laziness and partly using the extra step as a way to convince myself I really don't need the things I have in my cart, I usually don't check out. That being said, I've never had any issues with hacking doing it this way.
In terms of something as basic as cutting plates, it's not really a counterfeit. Every company with a die cut machine makes a cutting plate of some type. It's a piece of plastic. I hardly call that intellectual property the way they knock off stamps and dies.
Also, you might want to check out the hacks for cutting machines to see if it works for the cuttlebug...I know it works on many but no idea if it works on all. There has been a trend lately to cut up self healing mats and using them instead of cutting plates. They are apparently better for some dies that require shims galore with typical plastic plates. The WRMK magnetic platform set that I bought has cutting plates that are very similar to self healing mats. One die I couldn't get to work with my usual sandwiches and enough shims to leave me concerned about breaking my Big Kick using the standard plates went through like butter on the first pass using the WRMK 'plates', so honestly, trying out a self healing mat hack might work out better for you if it works on that machine.

I think the Vagabond plates are very similar. I have used my Cuttlebug plates in my Vagabond & vice versa.

Has anybody found knock off platforms? I want a smaller one for my Vintaj. I have the long platform and I am over it, lol. Embri trust me this is so much a Cricut thing to do is discontinue everything at the drop of a dime and leave us all with the door stop consumable. Least the Cuttlebug had a massively long life span. It is still upsetting because a lot of us were or are attached to our Cuttlebug machine. The old ones were workhorses. I hated retiring mine after it went to CB heaven. It really did need to be replaced. Did everything I could to save it. Everyone I was going to replace my CB after it broke last year. The official plates were super pricey and then the machine was kind of hard to find. I knew something was up. If any of you are looking for official plates I hope you don't have sticker shock and aftermarket might be cheaper if you want the acrylic plates. I am using quilting mats with my Sizzix Vintaj. They are working great. I am so happy about this alternative. Videos I have seen the Cuttlebug is taking the quilting mats with perfect cutting results.
What foldable manual machines are out now?

Check to see if you have a plastics fabrication shop nearby. They should have a suitable material and be able to cut it to whatever size you need. The corners may not be rounded or the edges polished clear, but the plates should work as long as they are the right thickness.
And yeah, typical ProvoCraft. ::thumbsdown::
And if your looking at replacement I highly recommend the Spellbinders Platinum 6. It's a bit larger and more heavy duty than CB, and the sides fold up.

Another replacement option would be the Big Shot model with the fold up platform.

Just stumbled across this topic looking for confirmation of the Cuttlebug news.
This company in the UK has a very good reputation for all sorts of cutting plates and ships worldwide
I've heard that the chinese ones are made of the wrong material and break very easily

Have you considered trying a self healing mat as the cutting surface in your sandwich? Here is a link to the thread: SELF HEALING MATS FOR DIE CUT MACHINEI have made the switch (I have a Big Shot) and it's working great. I only need to use 1 of the actual cutting plates, and it's the top of the sandwich so it doesn't get cut lines. So my cutting plates will last forever unless they break... I assume it would work in the cuttlebug too.

I love my Cuttlebug! Now I have to decide if I want to pick up another one or make do with my Big Shot (that makes me sound so spoiled).
