Where did you buy the self-healing mats? Any recommendations on particular ones to look for? Any craft store should have them, some stationary / office supply stores do as well. You may also get lucky searching them out at thrift shops. Online of course is an option, and AliExpress also sells various ones. I'd probably stick to trying to buy in person if it's an option for you though, since the thickness of the mat is critical and not all brands or styles are the same. I've also seen small cutting mats at the dollar store, packaged with a craft knife; it was 3mm thick and 4$ Canadian for the set, 9" x 7.5" size. I don't have a Cuttlebug to test it with though.

Where did you buy the self-healing mats? Any recommendations on particular ones to look for? from the youtube video, it seems that almost any self-healing mat will work, you just may have to adjust your sandwich depending on how thick your mat is. I have a green "selectum" mat that is always on my desk (it's huge) and when I replaced it recently, I cut up my old one into the right size for my die cut machine. You can get them on amazon. I got mine at a local surplus store.

I mean, is ProvoCraft going to make a new machine they think I'm going to buy if I can't get replacement pieces for my Cuttlebug?
Because I promise you, ProvoCraft, my next machine is going to be a big shot.

I was wondering if there were ‘knock offs’ available. I’ve been very reluctant to order from Ali Express because I have no way to not use a credit card and I refuse to make them vulnerable to hacking. Plus, there is all of the lack of ethics in knowingly buying a counterfeit product. I think the fact Cricut is discontinuing the Cuttlebug and the accessories is a game changer. I’m buying some official plates, but will certainly not be reluctant to go the counterfeit route in the future. One of my CCs offers an option to generate a single use card number. I use those when shopping on AE. I've only shopped there a few times (most times I can find the same things on eBay for around the same price and with enough searching if I'm patient enough) because you can only choose all carts or one cart to check out with and sometimes I'd like to buy from a few sellers, but not from every seller I have stuff in my cart from. Partly due to laziness and partly using the extra step as a way to convince myself I really don't need the things I have in my cart, I usually don't check out. That being said, I've never had any issues with hacking doing it this way.
In terms of something as basic as cutting plates, it's not really a counterfeit. Every company with a die cut machine makes a cutting plate of some type. It's a piece of plastic. I hardly call that intellectual property the way they knock off stamps and dies.
Also, you might want to check out the hacks for cutting machines to see if it works for the cuttlebug...I know it works on many but no idea if it works on all. There has been a trend lately to cut up self healing mats and using them instead of cutting plates. They are apparently better for some dies that require shims galore with typical plastic plates. The WRMK magnetic platform set that I bought has cutting plates that are very similar to self healing mats. One die I couldn't get to work with my usual sandwiches and enough shims to leave me concerned about breaking my Big Kick using the standard plates went through like butter on the first pass using the WRMK 'plates', so honestly, trying out a self healing mat hack might work out better for you if it works on that machine.
Does anyone know if Spellbinder plates will work in a Cuttlebug? If so which ones and what is the best way to layer them?

Well. I’m really disappointed in Cricut discontinuing the Cuttlebug and it’s accessories. I’m on a spending freeze and I really need new plates. Bah humbug. Has anyone read if they are replacing it with something better? I do already have a Gemini machine, but used the Cuttlebug for the Hot Foiling machine. I don’t think it works with a Gemini. Off to try to find Cricut plates before they disappear. help.cricut.com/hc/en-us/articles/360009501973-Cricut-Cuttlebug-FAQProvocraft has dropped the ball again. First by not supporting their existing machines, then by discontinuing a general craft item. If I did not have so much money in machines and cartridges I would jump ship.

I am so disappointed in Provocraft. They have all of my contact info. It would be nice of them to send a message that they are abandoning their customers once again. If I didn't have so much money invested in their now defunct products i would jump ship. First the Gypsy, then the Cricuts now the Cuttlbug. What next. Design Space so you lose all your purchased images and stored cartridges? Over it!

Get the Big Shot, personally I think it's better built and Sizzix products are high quality.

As it is I already feel "left behind" because I have an original Explore. Well, the thing still works.
