It's like that children's book... There once was a crooked man who approached a crooked coach to help a crooked parent... If you give a pig a pancake...

I wonder if Target will stop carrying the Mossimo brand. That is the company that Lori’s husband owns. Imagine what a financial disaster that would be.

Which is good, I hate that brand. It was the gold standard for too thin t-shirts, cheap materials and inconsistent sizing.

I don't mean to derail the conversation, but why would this be? I don't recall a single college or employer asking this question. I am a first generation college graduate. I am also the only member of my family with a masters. . It was a common question when I was applying in the late 90s. It is part of an effort to increase diversity. There is also some thought that an education is doing to be greatly valued and worked hard for for first generation students. I’m a first generation college grad myself and went on to get a masters and doctorate level degree I wonder if people were writing this in their letters? I went to 2 colleges (transfer student) in the late 90s and one in the 2010s (masters degree). I have never been asked this question. I also work for a large University and was not asked this question when I applied for my job, or any other job I've had, for that matter. I did not come from parents who knew anything about going to college (they didn't even know I applied until I told them I was accepted), and I would not have known to say/write so without being asked directly.

However, the schools do receive the FAFSA info so I wonder if it effects their decision in some way, shape or form?

Late to the game but if anyone is interested in hearing a succinct version of how this all played out, The Daily (NYT) podcast on Spotify did what I thought was a good podcast on it yesterday. Worth listening to IMO.

My nephew (applying this year) was asked both is a parent was an alumni and if he was the first in his family to go to college.

I’m tall, and they were extra long, so they fit me perfectly. I was upset when they stopped selling them. But apart from those, yes, you summed them up perfectly. 😅

Luckily I found some on ebay and poshmark recently.

Lori's daughters are dropping out of CSU for fear of bullying. News break, Lori, your daughters would have been kicked out anyway: Lori Loughlin's daughters are not letting USC decide their fate, because they will NOT be returning to the University for fear of bullying ... sources connected to both daughters tell TMZ. We're told 19-year-old Olivia and 20-year-old Isabella have made the decision to withdraw from the University. Our sources say they have the full support of their parents, Lori and Mossimo Giannulli, both of whom have been indicted in the college bribery scandal. Our sources say the family feels certain, if the girls went back to USC, they would be "viciously bullied." So, the decision has been made. www.tmz.com/2019/03/14/lori-loughlin-daughters-olivia-isabella-usc-bullying-college-bribery/Do shady shit, except to be called out on it. 🤷♀️ Bullying at USC is nothing compared to the worldwide bullying they are already getting. They probably also dropped out of SC so the could lay low for awhile. Meet with mommy's PR people so they could devise a damage control plan.

I applied in the early 90s and definitely remember being asked about my parents education in most if not all my applications. I know it's part of the common app- which became popular in the late 90s early 2000s

To paraphrase him, they have a fire in their belly. His company has an internship program specifically targeting first generation college students as well. ETA: He was a first generation college student himself so this is also personal for him. What exactly makes one qualify? My parents didn't go, my father's parents didn't go, but my mother's parents and her grandparents did. Could I have an advantage just because my parents and some of my grandparents didn't go?

Why aren’t the kids being charged? There’s no way they were ignorant of what was happening. Maybe the ones who had test scores changed or faked may not have known but there’s no way the Loughlin girls didn’t know they don’t row crew.

I wonder if it is because they were 17 and not an adult (not sure of their age).

This article outlines which kids were actively involved, which were likely ignorant to the fraud and a few that it isn't really clear if the kids knew anything. I'm not sure why at least some aren't being charged and wonder if it is related to the fact that they aren't the ones entering into the agreements and making payments to Singer.

I guess that makes sense. Even if they participated, it makes them guilty of lying and cheating, but nothing illegal.

Interesting enough....I had insomnia and was binge-watching the Oxford University based British murder mystery series, "Lewis." There was an episode that involved a ring of parents-high school teachers-Oxford deans in a pay for admission scam. I believe it was called "Intelligent Design." From 2013.

I feel zero sympathy for her. This is a case where money obviously cannot buy smarts or integrity.

But I really want to know if she said “Do you know who I am?!” when getting arrested. Apparently that works in DUI cases (Reese Witherspoon).

When you commit a crime and are caught, a plea deal is a gift. Turning it down is like gambling in Vegas…where the odds always favor the house.

I would seriously love to be a fly on her attorneys wall. Surely they told her the plea deal was the best she would get? They had to tell her jail time was going to happen, right? I bet they are already tired of dealing with her.
