I’ve just set my DVR to start recording the episodes. I’ve probably just put the nail in his coffin.

My husband and I make sure we're in front of the TV at Jeopardy time. It's so exciting to see what James will bet when he hits those Daily Doubles. I do think though that his method of game-play will change Jeopardy forever. When and if he loses I don't believe that new players will go back to the usual easy/smaller money questions first. And bets may be higher than previously made. Don't know if this will be a good or a bad thing for the show. Certainly praying for Alex and hope he's able to come back after the upcoming filming break.

Did anyone see the Wheel of Fortune episode in which the military vet purposely flubbed a question so that her fellow contestant veterans would win more money? I kind of wish this guy would do the same thing. He’s proven that he’s highly intelligent and has won over a million dollars. Time to let others play and win. He would be going out as a hero and a scholar.

While it has been exciting, I'm ready for him to go. I think it is more his strategy than his knowledge. Certainly he has a wide range of knowledge but so have the other very successful champions. His strategy to start at the bottom throws the other players and builds so much money. Then he makes those high wagers. I keep thinking that sooner or later he is going to miss a couple of those in a row and not be ahead in the final. He's missed one or two but not enough in one game.
We keep watching yet I don't really enjoy the games as much because we at home aren't getting a chance to answer that many questions either. He is either too fast or I haven't quite figured out the category before he jumps to the next one.

I’ve been a Jeopardy fan for ages and usually watch but honestly I just don’t care for James. To me he comes off kind of smug, especially at final when it’s a runaway. Plus, like some of the others, I think it’s kind of boring to watch the sure thing win every night.

I'm enjoying watching him and marveling at all the information that he has in his head. But at this point I'm not sure anyone else can beat him. I mean, out there somewhere there has to be someone who also has a lot of information and who's as fast as james is on the buzzer. But they'd have to find them.
I think he should voluntarily stop playing at some point. Not sure where that point is, but if he did he'd be known as the champion who was never beaten. lol.

I too am getting very bored with him. I almost didn't turn it on tonight, too predictable, but I love Jeopardy. I wonder if they will impose limits after him.

He is either too fast or I haven't quite figured out the category before he jumps to the next one. I respectfully disagree that it is more about strategy. Lots of players in the past have started at the bottom, he amasses so much money because he is faster on the trigger and knows a whole lot about a whole lot of things. Sure when he hits the daily doubles he risks a lot of money, but everyone has the same chance to get the daily doubles, they just had to ring in and answer the previous questions correctly first. He doesn’t ring in if he doesn’t know the answer, which a lot of people do. I think Alex reads the answer so damn slowly I am done reading them on the tv before he is done speaking, meaning I know if I know the answer or not before anyone is allowed to ring in, generally, however, I don’t know the answer! I have always been able to read the answer faster then Alex speaks, so I if I know the answer I can say it before the people on the tv are even allowed to ring in. I find James fascinating and I don’t think he is smug at all, I mentioned before that I think his smile is awkward because he doesn’t show his teeth very often. After watching several nights it is clear he has a very severe underbite and I imagine he is self conscious and that is why he appears to be smirking. I like him. i imagine he will retire before he is beaten, but in the meantime I have become a born again Jeopardy Watcher. How many episodes before they are done for the season, does anyone know?

"Trebek, 78, was diagnosed with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer last month. After his final day of taping his 35th year of Jeopardy last week, however, he told fans that he planned to return later this year for another season."
So taping finished last week.

After I posted here yesterday, I read this interview with James in the NYT last night. He himself credits his strategy for his success. NYT InterviewHere is an analysis in USA Today that basically says the same thing. He knows a lot of stuff, is quick with the buzzer but it is how he runs the categories accumulating a lot of money early and his big bets that are in the writer's words, a game changer. USA Today articleI'm glad more people are watching Jeopardy. And I agree about his smile. At first I thought he was smug but after awhile I decided he is really more shy and just not naturally comfortable in the interview portions.

Yeah, I have not watched his episodes, it is really no fun. I am happy for him, but a game where you know the outcome is not really fun. And the skipping around for the daily double is a pet peeve. DH was on 15 years ago. He was the first to win more than 5 games, he won 6

Haven't watched for the past week.
A 2-man question/answer show is no fun for me. The game is decided long before final jeopardy.

I'm loving it.. for me the fun is to see how this is going to end. And last night he said he was going to donate the winnings (not sure if some or all) to a charity in Las Vegas (something to do with kids I believe)... that nailed it for me. He said his family is fine without the money.. I think he comes across as just not being comfortable with being on camera.. I was SO jumping up and down cause I got the final question right... I NEVER get answers right.. lol... unless it is some category that I am really familiar with.

I find it interesting that people here on the board and elsewhere are calling for James to step down since he's won a million dollars. I don't remember people calling for Ken Jennings to step down during his run of 74 shows/and more than $2.5 million in prize money.
I'm enjoying his run and his interesting approach to the game and I also wonder if he has changed the way people will play the game going forward.
I also liked when he told Alex that his family is doing well enough (Alex had asked if his parents were going to be beneficiaries of his winnings) and he will be donating to some children's charities in the area.

Wait don’t answer that, I may never watch jeopardy again with the wrong answer. And wowzers. Jeopardy was hard back then!

DH was on 15 years ago. He was the first to win more than 5 games, he won 6 How cool is that? He broke a record! I had a friend that was on Jeopardy but she didn't do very well - she came in 3rd but she said she had a blast.

Well, I mean you didn't say it's "wrong", just that it's a pet peeve...but is it an unwritten rule of the game that the clues should be called in order?

For me, watching it I like having the questions be easier, working towards harder. It flows better. We really haven't watched much since Ken Jennings. There should be a 1 million dollar limit. I think.

I kinda like it as it brings something a little different from the game.

I think as long as you are playing according to the rules you can play anyway you want to. If I were Holzhauer I would not step down. Having said that, I do wish he'd lose soon because I am not enjoying nor looking forward to Jeopardy with him on the show. I have missed very few shows over the years. That half hour is my happy half hour and I just am not enjoying it as much.

When Ken Jennings was on his winning streak the totals of each day's three contestants were much closer. There was more than one time when it seemed that Jennings might not win that day. So there was that element of suspense that's missing from James' run. I don't think he should step down though... he's playing by the rules of the game and kudos to him for being so fast with that buzzer and for knowing all those answers. And for being bold enough to make those huge bets.

I'm warming up to him. I think he was just really uncomfortable making small-talk, but is becoming more relaxed as the shows go on. At this point, it looks like he is pretty unbeatable.
