Me: I'm the family go-to on dog breeds. I am my friends' go-to on autism. Mostly, I am the go-to when someone just wants someone to listen to their concerns and lift problems. I am a great listener.
DH: he's our history buff, and our backyard mechanic and handyman.
My 26 yo son with autism is our movie savant. He can tell you who starred in a movie, who directed it, produced it, and who did the music score. He also knows everything there is to know about dinosaurs.

I'm the go-to person for crafts, that's for sure. At work, I'm the problem solver. If someone messes up the craft they are making, I can fix it.
DH is the man for your financial planning questions, though that's not he does at work. He's also good at fixing toilets.

DH repairs pinball machines, both electromechanical and solid state (1980 and later) games. Electromechanicals are the ones with the score reels in the back like an old gas pump. This was not his regular career. He took it up before retirement and now it is a business that keeps him busier than he wants to be. We are getting calls from people 4 hours away because there are so few people in the area that do this and everyone who does is covered up with work.
I had a business for 16 years making custom window treatments so I occasionally get asked to hang draperies or something like that. I sew other things but I've often told people I don't make clothes so no one asks me to do alterations, thank goodness. Sometimes I get requests to make a special card for someone also.

DSO is the go-to person for any handyman type stuff - his motto is "I'll give it a crack!" I guess I'm the go-to person for food..... if you want to know what kibbeh or mahalabia is, or what you would use kecap manis or sambal oeleck for, or what's the best recipe for pork belly, then I'm your girl. (Actually, my MIL is your girl, but if she's not available then come to me! ) And if you need a particular spice, then come to my house because I have just about every spice under the sun.

In the work realm, I was the go-to person for anything MS Word related. Our company actually had a Word expert on staff, and she frequently came to me to resolve things that she didn’t’t Know how to deal with. It was fun for me to figure out why a document was behaving oddly and a disappointment if it was an easy fix that I had seen before. I liked the really weird and tough problems. For family, it was anything to do with their computer and setting up templates for anything they needed.
My younger sister was the president of a small rural school board and she asked me to set up a template to help them include all of the new rules and/or laws that they were required to know. A few years later, my sister stopped her association with the school because her last child had graduated. Her replacement wanted me to drive out there, over 150 miles from my home, to show her the template’s capabilities. Uh, not without charging a consultant fee, I won’t. It wasn’t necessary to use the template components, the file was just fine adding things manually. It was just so much easier to use the things I had created. I didn’t feel badly about refusing because the file was perfectly workable manually.
At home, I am asked about buying something new because I am a big researcher. I rarely buy something expensive without doing the homework on it. Neighbors just ask what brand I buy and then copy that.
I’m also the one they come to regarding making anything crafty or for advice on fixing things. I have a little knowledge in a lot of areas, and I enjoy the excuse to learn more to help a friend out. Last week, I made a mold from some large wooden numbers I had in my craft stuff and then poured the mold with resin to make custom address numbers for our mailboxes. The original peel and stick kind didn’t last long at all, so these resin numbers, painted with high heat spray paint and glued with E6000 should last For years and years. Maybe regluing might be a necessity, but the resin will not degrade.

Dogs, dog rescue, dog training, import export regulations for moving dogs. Korea. Fundamentalists.
I’m a good proofreader and editor too.
I thought I was good at trivia, but here in Korea all the trivia nights are EU/UK heavy so they have questions on rules for snooker and crap so we only ever come in 2nd or third!

All things writing (your personal proofreader here!) and classroom management. My principal always said I should write a book on it. When we read Harry Wong's book, The First Days of School, she told me I already did most of those things. I would also say that a majority of it is just building relationships with kids and high expectations. The rest comes so much faster when you have those two things. Have you read Teach Like a Champion? So many good ideas in that book that aren't about management, but when the kids are doing them, you don't need a lot of management. The relationship part is spot on. It's also a whole lot of parenting.

I'm a generalist; I know a little bit about a variety of subjects. While I'm not an expert on anything, I'm fairly good at trivia. Most often, I'm consulted about spelling and proofreading. At work, safety slogans and haiku Secondly, it would be "who sang. . .?", especially regarding 80's new wave music or "who wrote. . .?". On the street, I'm regularly asked for directions, even when I'm in a foreign country. I must look approachable, non-threatening and knowledgeable, which is weird because I definitely have RBF. My husband's strengths are emergency planning and response, finding a bargain and being generally handy.

I know lots of useless tidbits on rock music history and particularly the Beatles. I can do the same with old movies, movie stars and tv stars.
That being said, I never did figure out who David Holmes was.

I get the questions on gardening, herbal remedies, and cooking. My friends have said I’m really good at listening and then cutting thru the bullshit and excuses. Usually this occurs when my mouth opens before my filters engage, but my friends seem to appreciate since they often ask if they can run something past me. I’ve been dealing with my husband’s and daughter’s health conditions for so long I’ve become the go to person when it comes to addressing health issues from a dietary or herbal perspective.
DH has an eidetic memory, so anything he reads, he remembers. He is especially good with music and Apple information since he was a music major (percussion) who changed over to computers in college. He has a really wide knowledge of anything to do with comics.

No matter where I have lived, I’ve always been the person to recommend restaurants, bakeries, etc. I love to seek out local, non-chain, locally owned places to eat.
Before Amazon became so popular, friends always asked me where they could find this or that.

For me, it changed throughout the years. Currently, it’s probably what to do with pictures, and all things photo organization, scrapbooking, scrapbook organizing, etc.
When my girl was in Girl Scouts, I would have said that. I dove in head first, and we had a blast. I knew everything we needed to know, and gave lots of advice and our girls got things done!
After college, I was handy at work for translating Spanish. I wasn’t fluent, but pretty good. We had work in Mexico, and all communication that was mailed or faxed was in Spanish. No one else in the office could translate anything past the word taco lol. I’ve since lost most of the ability because I’m not using it at all.
My BF is a go to person for fishing, trout (creek, small stream) specifically. He probably has 30 fishing poles. And knowledge about rock bands. (He’s watching video on YouTube right now, about guitars and who uses what, and knows the sounds)

My dh calls me the vessel of stupid knowledge. He swears that I know a little something about everything. Lol That sounds like what my late DH would say of me lol! He would look at me funny and say, "Where did you pull that from? That can't be right!" Then he would look it up and roll his eyes.

Fabric, sewing, quilting (though I am far from an expert on that) are the subjects I am best at. Also, I am an expert researcher, or as DD says the Queen of Google. No matter the subject or person, I can usually track down lots of information. I love to take a question and jump in the deep end looking for answers. I've always thought I'd make a pretty good private eye! And through sheer repetition, I've become an expert on moving, especially international moves.
