i cannot find table lamps that I even slightly like. I can find something to dislike about every single table lamp I see. I am scrolling through all 24,000+ table lamps on Wayfair and cannot find any I want to put in my family room.

There is an online lighting store I like that I can’t think of the name now, but if I do I will let you know. They have beautiful pieces, and a huge selection.
Curtain, or material for curtains for my open space living area. I found some great fabric when I moved in that was over $100 a yard and since I needed over 20 yards I decided it wasn’t worth it. I found some a few years ago that was about 50 to 70 IIRC, but I would only use it for a valance type piece and buy less expensive fabric for the lengths. But then I couldn’t find a valance that looked modern that would work with the different spaces I need it, both 3 windows side by side (in living room with curtains and kitchen hanging alone) and over a French door. So I never bought the fabric and I’m sure it’s gone now. Well, I did get enough to do a faux Roman shade in my powder room but that hasn’t happened ether.

Rugs. I have the hardest time finding rugs. It took me almost three years after remodeling my kitchen to find a rug to put under my kitchen table. It was so hard to find one the right size, colors, etc.
I have many more rugs to buy, and I can't ever find what I want.

I’m not sure what exactly you mean by *unicorn*. If it’s something impossible to find the perfect one - that would be paint color. Oh, I know the color I have in my mind - but finding the exact, perfect shade is a huge, long process.

I have carpet and the only one that has ever laid flat is a cheap oriental one. I've tried tape and a rug pad- nope. I've also gotten rid of a heavy coffee table trunk and replaced it with a lightweight ottoman- nope it still buckles. I've tried 3 different rugs and they all do they same thing. Sorry, a hijack- is there anything that will make it lay flat or do I need to go rug shopping again???

I can't find a coffee table I like that works in our family room. We have a nasty, cheap thing from Target right now.

All of it. I hate choosing anything especially furniture. It seems like no one sells quality furniture anymore, it’s all particle board junk. And if we ever do find something decent it costs a freaking fortune. I’ve been looking for a big dining table for our cabin. Nothing too fancy or too rustic but in between. Needs to seat about 8 because we frequently have potlucks with the neighbors and we have a good sized group. I’ve really been shell shocked by the prices I’ve seen for sets like that. It’s insane. I’m almost ready to tell DH to find some plans on Ana-White.com for a farmhouse table and just build it himself.

I wanted a different one quick for company coming from out of state. I thought it would work for the short fix. That was 12 years ago.

And if we ever do find something decent it costs a freaking fortune. Even the particle board costs a fortune if it has the right label on it! Pottery Barn, Crate and Barrel - half their stuff is press wood and veneers. No thanks! We have a large furniture store here that sells decent solid wood furniture at a fairly reasonable price, but I don't love the styles they carry.

@merge do you have any Amish communities near you? We have been buying our wooden furniture pieces from the same family for over 30 years and the quality and price are excellent. If you aren't in a hurry to get it, you can customize it to almost anything you want.

I spent over two years looking for a comforter or duvet for our master bedroom.
Finally settled on a duvet... now it has been 6+months looking for wall art to go with it.

Window treatments for my dining room. Two walls are all windows and not the pretty kind. I can't decide if I want drapes or Roman shades or blinds or what. I am repainting in there and I hope the new color speaks to me.

Comforter for our bed I have been looking for what I vision for 6 years.
In a perfect world I would love all white, but that isn’t practical. Our bedroom is a dark gray and I would like something neutral, not a solid color, no flowers…you can see why I can’t find my unicorn.

A new couch.
I’ve been shopping for one for 7 years.
Everything now is soooo neutral which is so boring and I just don’t understand. All the furniture salespeople keep telling me “but you add accents with pillows.” Yea, well a cute pillow isn’t going to cover up that ugly ass couch or hide the fact that it’s beige or grey or some other non-color excuse for design.

If you aren't in a hurry to get it, you can customize it to almost anything you want. We have a store in our area that sells primarily Amish built furniture, it’s where we got our current bedroom set. But they want $$$$ for it. It’s not that it isn’t worth it, it’s just that we don’t have that much money to spend. I think our oak bed frame with drawers underneath and a big dresser together were close to $3K ten years ago. MIL bought them for us or we couldn’t have afforded them and we needed to consolidate space in our bedroom to accommodate DD’s bassinet when she was a newborn.

Do you have a La-Z-Boy near you? My mom was having the same issue and we found what she wanted there. They have a huuuuge selection of fabric swatches available to see( and touch) that you can choose from. I was pleasantly surprised by the bright choices and unique patterns.

Omg I’ve had so many unicorns. I looked for a round walnut pedestal dining room table to seat six for years. Finally found one a year ago! Then it took a year to find chairs. I looked for an area rug for the living room forever. Then one day I had 10 minutes to spare and walked through Homesense and found the perfect wool 8x10 rug for $400! Current unicorn is walnut bookshelves with some closed storage for the dining room. I usually find the perfect thing when I’m not really looking.

Something to go on the wall over our bed. There is a window on each side of the bed, and we have a headboard. It's been over 2 years since we've been in this house, and I still haven't found the perfect item

I can't find a coffee table I like that works in our family room. We have a nasty, cheap thing from Target right now. It took me 3 years to find a coffee table I liked. It was my first place, and I literally had nothing other than a futon, a lamp, and a television during that time. Once I found the right coffee table, everything else just fell into place.

See if you have a Norwalk Furniture near you. You pick out the piece of furniture you want and then the fabric. The salepeople/designers at the two locations we purchased from were really knowledgeable about which fabrics would work for the particular piece, and with our existing furniture and decor. We have had a couch, chair, and our dining room chairs made by them and the quality is excellent. Make sure and buy a sample of the fabric when you buy the furniture, it comes in so handy for future shopping for the room. Also, haveyou tried looking through the fabric swatches at places like Ethan Allen? It is not as extensive as Norwalk, but more than many other stores. And they have interior designers that can help you out.

Ugh! A media cabinet. The TV hangs on the wall but I need a cabinet below. Problem is I have too many requirements: can’t be more than 60” wide, must be tall (36”+), can’t be ugly. Everything I find that I like is $2000.
Funny about table lamps...I find too many I like. I always have an excess of lamps because I keep finding new ones I like.

Coffee tables! I fall in love with various ones on insta then I swipe up to purchase and for some reason they don't seem right for my space..😕 the vision I have in my head hasn't fell into place yet.

Based on my own experience, I warn against LaZBoy. We bought three pieces from them. Two of the pieces showed significant wear within a year and the third piece showed wear within 2 years. The frames and construction are good, but the material was not worth the money. (Note that we are not hard on our furniture and at the time, I just had one kid at home, so there was no monkeys jumping on the bed situation). I have bought crappy furniture from crappy stores whose material held up better than LaZBoy's expensive stuff. My decor unicorn for almost20 years was a dining room set from the 50s-60s -- the formica top, chrome legs, etc. Finally found one at a flea market in WI.

A library card catalog is my unicorn. On the rare instances you see them for sale the cost is jaw dropping.
For years I described our decorating style as "International Military Eclectic".
I have to say a good amount of our household stuff we inherited from my parents or MIL: end tables, curios, etc.
I am always looking for lamps whenever I go to Goodwill or thrift stores. I found two sets a couple of weeks ago. They are not the perfect be all, end all, but with a coat of paint and a new shade they will give light just like they were made to do.

I’m with you—. I LOVE color, and I LOVE my red couch. Looking for MY red couch. Having a few difficulties with the exact color.... With age a bit darker, I think is better for me, but not so sure either! Problem is that I too much other red stuff it will have to go with.
