Do you find they leave blue lint on your dishes? A lot of reviews I was looking at (not necessarily for the linked product, just that I saw earlier) said it left blue lint/threads when using to dry. We could definitely use some more absorbent towels. No, we have no problems with lint. I was coming to ask which huck towels are best because I had never heard of them and went to look them up on Amazon. Thank you for the link and the recommendation!

I use paper plates for things like toast...but not for meals.

Hi, my name is jeremysgirl, I hate paper plates, paper napkins, and paper towels. I am married to a man who loves all these things and each time he is at the store, he picks them up! For the sake of marital harmony, I shut my piehole and use a proper plate.

No, unless it's an outdoor, huge party sort of thing. I find them incredibly wasteful unless you are in a situation where they are truly necessary. And the styrofoam ones are the worst. We don't have a dishwasher. Washing an actual dish takes literal seconds.

Ugh, no!!! I do have some in the house, for when I’m doing a project that might need a little bit of paint or glue or something, but I can’t remember the last time I ate off a paper plate.

We rarely use them. I think it's a waste for one thing. Also I just prefer using real dishes. But I think under the right circumstances, there's nothing wrong with it. We have remodeled our kitchen and used paper plates because we couldn't use the sink or dishwasher. If you don't have a dishwasher and you are sick or have a lot going on, I totally understand why you would use paper plates.

I use paper plates. Not for dinner, unless we have pizza, but for sandwiches and lunch stuff, or a snack, yes.

I have Corelle plates in three different sizes, 16 of each I think, so it’s easy to use a real plate for a meal, a sandwich, a snack, whatever. I have a dishwasher and now that it’s just me it does take longer to get a full load, but that’s okay. I have lots of glasses and silverware too.
I have used paper plates when we’ve had parties and still would use them under certain circumstances. I will admit to using paper towels still. For messy things I really prefer to use them rather than washable cloths or towels.
I think there can be good reasons for choosing paper/disposable items (illnesses, injuries, water for washing not available, etc.), but I don’t need to use paper plates every day.

I grew up using Styrofoam plates. I was in my 20's before I realized not everybody eats all their meals on disposable plates.
I now use paper plates & red solo cups for every meal. It's so much easier not having dishes.

No. We use them very rarely and only if we are having a big gathering where we don’t have enough plates etc. I have become much more aware of how much waste goes into landfill so single use anything is only when absolutely necessary.

This is the kind of question that needs a poll attached, monklady123. We rarely use paper plates. Yes for the kids birthday parties when they were younger and DD's grad party. Never for everyday meals or parties of 50 or less.

When I was writing exams I used paper plates. That was handy. I don’t think we even have any paper plates in the house. Everything we have is permanent except Kleenex, toilet paper and paper towels.

This is us too. I think I have a few from a craft project probably 8+ years ago and they’re stashed in the pantry for the next paint project which will probably be never! I’ve seen those Pinterest/Instagram posts with food on paper plates and found it bizarre too. Never have I thought to use paper plates instead of regular plates (besides attending bbqs/birthday parties in a park).

I keep an additional set for when family is in town, I can’t imagine storing enough for 49 people! For those items a lot of people use paper plates for like pizza, sandwiches, snacks I like to use our small salad plates for that purpose. Might as well get some use out of them

I hardly ever use paper plates.
This thread did make me curious about the environmental impact of using ceramic dishes as opposed to paper plates. The little bit of research I did (if you can call a google search "research") led me to the conclusion that it's probably best to use ceramic dishes over paper, but the impact to the environment is probably negligible because so much energy is expended to create a ceramic cup or dish in the first place, and a lot of energy is expended keeping it clean.

We use paper plates... I am in West Texas where our water is more valuable then the landfill... we burn most paper trash out here in the country so it doesnt really go in a landfill...
We do use regular flatware but we have waxy paper bowls and buy paper cups..
Now to really skeeve yall out.. lol... we also have a septic tank and dont flush our toilet paper or tampons... they go in a brown paper bag and get burned.... separate small trash bag for plastic and metal... that does indeed go into the dumpster...
I do have corelle dishes and glasses for when we are eating on "real" china

We use them for pizza delivery night, under a messy sandwich, heating up small convenience items in the microwave, that type of thing. I buy the cheap thin ones. It’s not anymore wasteful to use them the way we do than the using water to wash real plates all the time.

And I totally do judge people for being that lazy and wasteful, especially being "too lazy to do the dishes" that's just mind boggling & makes me wonder what other cleaning/cleanliness routines they are too lazy to complete properly. like...WTF? I think most of us said it was our dh's that are lazy, and who's job it was to do the dishes, and then you go on to more insults? ooook, then. It's like saying, your dh is an ahole, so you must be a bitch.

But how much is expended hauling it away in the trash truck, then to whatever means of conveyance takes it to the landfill far away? How much energy is used to dispose of millions of paper/plastic/styrofoam plates, vs. the simple act of putting the clean plate back in the cabinet for re-use? Not argumentative, just curious - I've never seen a comparison study that factors in the cost of disposal scaled over time and quantity. ETA: I want to say also that I'm not interested in judging what anyone else does in their own home. I've got enough problems of my own to worry about!

Only for a big community event we host once a year, and we are transitioning to compostable everything for that. Not as pretty, but prettier for the planet. I am another who has a hard time eating off of paper, yuck!
I'm glad you asked this, though. My in-laws use them for every meal, which I didn't realize until recently when we were talking about how much trash we generate (spoiler, they have a lot of trash!). They said everyone does it, and I didn't believe them. I don't know anyone who uses paper products like that. For context, they live in New Jersey, we live in Vermont. They have a dishwasher, we do not. We don't spend a lot of time with them, so I had assumed they used paper plates when we visited because it added too many dishes for them (and I thought that was weird but whatever). Nope, it's absolutely every meal for them.

LOL there are so many housekeeping things I am too lazy to complete properly. I won’t tell you the last time I vacuumed. But I’ll do the dishes and don’t use paper plates. Do I win or lose?

ONLY if I don't have enough 'real' plates (fiestaware). I have service for 20 so not too often!

I use them when all my kids are home...but they are welcome to use glass at any time. I have them because I seem to the only person who can do the dishes here, and I swear we will run out of plates if I happen to be gone! I don't like soup in paper at all. But I did break out the "good paper" (Chinet) when we had family over for BBQ two weeks ago, normally its just Dixie or whatever. I also use them when I bulk bake my bacon.
I have paper towels, but our usage is way down as I love my norwex/ecloths for cleaning....

Only for large parties, like my daughter’s graduation last week. For smaller parties, I use my dishes, which I have plenty of. We switched to cloth napkins a few years ago & I rarely use paper towels.
