Just an observation from browsing through the Facebook Instant Pot group...People always post photos of the food they've cooked and SO many of them show their meals being served on paper plates or in paper bowls. I totally understand using them at home for certain occasions -- maybe a problem with the water, or having a living room picnic with your little kids, or cooking for a bunch of teens, or something like that. But for routine meals, no. And we don't even have a dishwasher. I don't know, maybe that's why a lot of people use them? -- But I know that even if I did use them all the time if I was taking a photo for a large group like that I'd pull out my good china (Corelle... hahahahaha ) When I cleared out my mom's apartment in Pittsburgh I tossed some things into a box, things that I didn't want to just throw away but that couldn't be donated. One of those was a pack of paper plates.... so I think I'll go put my breakfast on a paper plate!

No, I probably last used paper plates a decade ago for dd's birthday party and even then I only used them for her party. So once a year, a decade ago.

I can't imagine eating " normally" on paper plates. I've only ever used them if I was having a large party and serving finger food or when the girls were little I would buy themed paper plates for their birthday parties, again it would have been finger food.
I can't imagine anyone eating " wet" food off a paper plate or bowl!

The only times I use paper plates is for parties, where we don't have enough real plates for everyone. I just think it is wasteful to use single use items when there is an alternative. We even have a picnic set with reusable plates and cutlery. The only time I could possibly think of where I would use paper plates for regualr meals would be if we were having a kitchen re-do, and didn't have water for washing up.

We had a picnic set like that also...it was that hard plastic like melamine, or something like that. Four plates, cups, bowls, even "silver"ware. I always liked them better than paper plates anyway because they were much more sturdy... no danger of the plate bending/folding with your food on it!

I do have them in the house but only because the DGDs like to craft with them or hold teddy bears picnics. I can’t remember when I last ate from one and it would only have been sandwiches or cake.

I just stocked up on them. I’m having neck surgery Monday and I won’t be able to look down for weeks. I don’t have a dishwasher so I bought disposables and will be using them. Typically i mostly use them for group events.

We use them on occasion like if we pick up sandwiches from the deli that are messy, or if we're eating leftovers and DH does not want to do dishes because we're running to an event right after.

We rarely use them, I think they are awful for the environment so I try my best to avoid them. When I have a huge party I really don't have a choice as I don't have enough plates. I just bought new flatware and I kept my old set and have it stored in the basement so that hopefully I'll have enough of that for the next big gathering. I also don't use plastic cups, even for large gatherings.

Typically i mostly use them for group events. Good thinking! When DH had both his abdominal surgeries, we made sure he had shoes he could slip on easily. He could not bend down. That would be useful for you, too. I will keep you in my prayers, dear Pea. I hope you have a wonderful outcome, so you can begin moving back to your normal life. Please don't go down the stairs while you are healing!

I keep them on hand, but can't remember the last time I used one.
I remember there being a thread sometime ago, where I was surprised how many Peas did use them regularly. No judgement, everyone needs to do what works for their own family.

I don’t even have them in my house.
Not that I’ve never used paper plates but I haven’t had a party since I moved so no need.
I use regular plates every day or sometimes China. I have my mothers 4place settings of China not expensive China I’m sure she collected it with green stamps or something lol. I looks barely used. So I started using it. There are no bowls though

Rarely. I don't like eating food off of paper or drinking out of plastic. Even if we've ordered pizza and we're eating on the patio, we'll use our regular plates and glasses.

We do. Way too often. I just ate my breakfast off of one and put strawberries into a paper bowl for dgd. We have two different sizes of plates all the time and bowls on occasion. We don’t use them for regular dinners but do for sandwiches, pizza and the like. And if I were alone I’d never buy them...but I do use them and grew up using them. We spend way too much money on paper plates, napkins, paper towels and toilet paper (the only necessity, IMO).

These days no. But when dd was a young child and I was working full time with two hours commute a day and no dishwasher, I sure did. And again a few years ago when life just kind of fell apart for about a year.
Nowadays though only for parties or when on vacation. Even though we rent condos I refuse to cook or do dishes. But we only eat breakfast in the condo.

No, not at all. Aside from the expense and the fact that I don't care for eating off of paper in most cases, I don't care to be putting more unnecessary items in the landfill. Soiled paper plates, just like greasy pizza boxes, can't be put in the recycling.
We also recently stopped buying/using paper towels. I have a bunch of huck towels that we use instead and wash as needed. Works very well.

All the time. We only use the regular dishes with certain meals and with company. Honestly, my dh started it and I never thought twice of it...until this post!! No paper bowls. Also we have a dishwasher so it’s easy enough to clean them. Hmmm...

No, don't even have them in the house. I put a lot of effort into my cooking overall and I'm eating the food off a real plate. We got take out last night which is a rare thing here and I transferred the food to plates to eat.
The ironic thing is it was my mother who started my disdain for paper plates and now that's all she eats off of. She is healthy and active and more than capable of doing a few dishes, plus she has a dishwasher that needs to be run every few days anyway. I baked her a birthday cake that took hours to make and when we cut it, she started to get the paper plates. No way, I went and got some glass plates from her cabinet. I suppose you can do what you want with the food you cook, but if someone brings you food they have prepared, it is insulting to turn around and serve it on a paper plate unless it is a large gathering and that is what you are using for everything.

Well, I don't eat bacon, but if I did, I might keep a roll for that purpose. Or I might keep a couple of cloth towels specifically for grease like that, knowing they'd have to be washed extra well. (We do keep a roll of PT under the sink for things like pet messes, but it's not strictly necessary.) J u l e e, we found it surprisingly easy, especially since we don't have small children any longer.

I bake mine on a rack and it doesn’t need draining. Then afterwards I let the fat harden, scrape it into the trash, and wash the pan. No paper towels needed.
