Hi all! I am a newbie at crocheting. I joined a craft group and they started teaching me to crochet. I didn't think I would like it but now I am HOOKED! This is a "granny square" blanket and I have started another one. Granny Square Blanket by Kelly Roberts, on Flickr Welcome, great job on the blanket. We can "help" you spend your money, yarn, patterns, kits, just ask!

Thanks for the welcome ladies! I am working on a yellow and aqua blue blanket and a multi-colored one. I am so glad to finally get how to do these granny squares. At my group, I thought I had it and then had to unravel it all and start over! I didn't like that but it did help me see what I was doing. Then, after lots of practice making smaller squares, it just clicked one day. Now I have all these squares and I would like them to show me how to hook the squares together to make a big something! LOL! They ladies in our group are experts and do some beautiful work.

The beauty of most crafts today is YouTube! You can find pretty much anything on there and you can play the video as often as you need and stop it as often as you need until you've mastered what you want to make. Google something like crochet joins video and you'll get lots of hits. There's lots of great crochet videos, especially check out Bella Coco and Crochet Crowd...oh and in case you don't already know the terminology of USA crochet stitches is different to those of UK crochet so always make sure you know which one you are using and check that any video matches. Even though it's called a double crochet (DC) in both, they are different stitches. Most patterns and videos will say at the start if they are using US or UK terminology. I find US terms more logical so I stick to those.

I've been working on this rainbow afghan for the last few weeks. The pattern, Lucy at Attic 24 Neat Ripple is warmer and more substantial than the Woodland Ripple I made a couple of months ago. Each repeat is about 12 inches long, so I'll probably make 6 repeats in all. I really like the rhythm of these ripple patterns. Great for crocheting while watching Netflix!

Reading about everyone here has really got me excited about crafting again. I'm totally into crochet lately. I've been making some granny squares and will eventually try to join them all into a blanket. (I'm envisioning my own version of the Battenberg (sp?) blanket that someone here posted a link to.) I'm completely self-taught using the Internet and know that it shows; but, I'm just trying to make myself remember that I'm doing this for fun, regardless of the end product.
As far as online sources, I really enjoy the tutorials that crochet crowd and blossom crochet offer.

On the tutorial side, I found the videos for the individual squares of this blanket great. You don't have to make the whole blanket but you can pick a square you like and give it a go. I love the look of tropical delight and colours she uses in the video. A great way to learn new effects itsallinanutshell.com/2017/02/25/nuts-about-squares-cal-2017/

I need opinions. I have finished my woodland throw. Want to do a border. I have some of the dark copper color left and I have some of the dark blue left. That's all I have that is enough to make it around the perimeter. I found a cream color at Joann's that is about the same thickness. So what would you do?

jeremysgirl before I did a thing I would check ravelry images for the same blanket and see if any have borders and if they appeal to me. I doubt I would use a colour that is not already in the body of the blanket so I won't use the cream. Eta good job, by the way.

Good suggestion from wellway to check Ravelry. A blue border will cool the blanket down and copper will spice it up. Depends on the look you want. It’s a lovely blanket.

Finally got this Quilt of Valor labelled and sent off to my brother who is a 20 year Air Force veteran. I love him so much and I'm so proud of him. It was a real honor to be able to make him a QOV.

kellyr21 it took me a year and a half. But that is because I have squirrels in my brain so sometimes I can't focus. And often the squirrels lead me in other directions and I then end up with at least five other projects going. For normal people it was a crochet along from attic24 blog. I think it ran 8 weeks. It is the Woodland CAL if you want to go look.

When I read this stuff my rose colored glasses get put on and I truly think "OM Gosh, this cannot be real life." It's got to be made up, right? People do not act like this in real life, right? Really...?!?
