how do you view OTA networks (NBC, CBS, etc.)? I'm switching from cable to streaming and decided on Sling. The only thing that is missing are the OTA networks. I bought an antenna and the Fire TV Recast so that I can get OTA channels and watch them on any of my TVs. The recast works great except that I live in a rural county and I can't get as many channels as I was hoping. The local NBC stations come in great and sometimes I can get a weak signal from the closest CBS station. If I turn the antenna a little bit I can get the closest FOX and PBS stations but then I can't get NBC or CBS. ABC has never shown up at all. The antenna is supposed to have a range up to 80 miles. All of the networks have stations within 80 miles of my house but I guess there are obstructions that block the signals.
I know there is CBS All Access but then that would be an extra charge. And I think I wouldn't be able to watch shows like Survivor until the next day. Can anybody confirm that? I found an ABC app for the Fire TV stick and I think I can watch shows but again it looks like I can't watch shows live and have to wait until the next day. Most things I would be ok with waiting until the next day except for Survivor. I have a couple of friends that we usually watch at the same time while it's airing and discuss via text as the show is going on. I would hate to give up that text time with them. I don't think having everyone watch it together the next day would work. My primary concern is getting the local NBC station so I can get the local news that I prefer, but I sure would like to get more networks.
I should add that I know the OTA stations are available on some streaming services such as YouTube TV, but my choice of Sling instead was because YouTube TV doesn't offer the Hallmark channels and it's not available on the Fire TV stick. If that ever changes, I would consider switching to another streaming service but for now Sling gives me the most options of what I want.

Hulu Live has all of those channels. Watching the 6 PM news now when I don’t have cable or any kind of digital antenna just Hulu live

I'll have to check into Hulu. For now, I'll stick with Sling for the 3 month promo I got.

I use Hulu Live plus Philo to get all the channels I wanted. I really think I have too much, so I am thinking about dropping hulu live. I also live in a rural area and needed an outdoor antenna vs an indoor antenna (I'm not sure which you opted for, but if you do not have an outdoor antenna they are much better).

When we stopped our cable TV service but kept the high speed internet through u-verse, they offered us a bundle with the local channels plus the internet for the same price as internet only.
We rarely watch local TV, but it’s been nice to be able to switch over to those in the event of bad weather.

We quit cable and went with Play Station Vue. It streams all the local channels plus everything else we could want for $45 / month.

Why do you need the antenna with Hulu Live? We get the local stations- no PBS and no CBC, but otherwise, we get everything

Digital antenna - I get 47 stations with it but really only watch 3-4, and Hulu live.

Thank you for this information! I've been wanting to cut the cable but have been afraid of choosing the wrong streaming options.

Most of you guys are probably so far ahead, have nearly lapped me but now it seems I'm ahead. I only ever had antenna TV so nothing to cancel and still do to this day. We do stream stuff now on both Netflix and Hulu. Oh, and some Prime. But as far as "regular" TV nothing has changed, get plenty of stations over antenna. Mostly watch the big 3, PBS and Laff.

We like to watch the Goldbergs/Modern Family/Big Bang reruns in the evening and can't get CW on Hulu Live.

Is Hulu Live a different app from the Hulu one? I'm trying to find it on my Roku but the only one that pops up is Hulu. Probably a silly question but I am technologically inept!

We don’t have a live streaming service right now. We have Netflix and regular Hulu. We have an indoor antenna that you just plug in to your TV and we can pick up all the regular channels. We may add Hulu live once the new TV season starts, but for the most part we are ok with watching things a day after they air on Hulu.

We have YouTubeTV. It has CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX, and CW. No PBS, but I've read that YTTV and pbs are in talks to carry it.

An outdoor antenna isn't an option for me so I'm using an indoor one. Reviews have people commenting that they get 50+ channels with it. Most I've gotten has been 12, but when it finds that many it doesn't find the local NBC station that I was for the local news. I live in a 2 story house on the top of a hill so I should get good reception, but I'm just not real close to any transmitter. I did find a website that gives a list of channels and how far away they are. I think the closest one is 13 miles and most are over 25 miles away. I did get more channels when I taped it to the very top of the window in my bedroom which is on the 2nd floor. I'm going to play around more with the placement. The nice thing about having it connected to the Fire TV Recast is that I don't have to have it connected to a tv which gives me more freedom in where I can place the antenna.

We dropped our cable/landline and now just use Xfinity for our internet. My dh decided to go with Direct TV Now, largely because it offered HBO and he needed that for Game of Thrones. . I can't say I mind-- I've been watching Big Little Lies on HBO recently. He had started out with Hulu Live and he was not happy with it. The lack of HBO was definitely a part, but I'll have to check with him to see why he decided to switch. Direct TV Now seems pretty good. We definitely do not have as many channels as we had on cable, but it suits our purposes just fine.

When you set up your account, just choose Hulu Live. I had Hulu Live but then the cable company I have mu internet through offered a similar streaming option for cheaper so I went with that. I don't get a ton of channels, but I get the local and Food Network, which I love, and some others we enjoy.

We use sling and my husband has the CBS All Access. I do miss ABC live (esp Dancing Wtih the Stars) but it turns out I was busy on those evenings anyways and the show has gone downhill, so I don;t miss it much. I have the Hulu app (I got an offer for a year for 99 cents monthly!) so I could watch the Handmaid's Tale, but it's not the live one. I've been enjoying watching Goldbergs, Younger, Nashville, etc, shows that I didnt get to watch when we cut cable. Not sure I will renew Hulu as we already have Netflix and Prime.
Sling has a lot more than I thought it would, and we hvae the DVR option too. My DH gets the RedZone during Football season, and we have NBC and Fox live through that.
HTH!

I'm seriously rural. Like no where. And I can get channels. What are channels are you not getting that you want?

Oh, that's weird, we get both CW and ABC on ours - must differ by area. No PBS, but we don't watch it often. The channel we miss is CBC

Lots of things factor in. I live in a stucco house. The wire mesh they use in construction of it heavily interferes with the OTA signal into the house. Also I live in a heavily treed neighborhood which has an affect also. I only live 15 miles from the towers, and our reception varies from very good to non existent. I use DirectTV now, soon to be AT&T TV Now. I am grandfathered into a great plan, but the new ones aren’t as good value, IMO.

Local channels you get on the live tv streaming services vary greatly from city to city. Because each station ownership had to come to transmission agreement and costs with each channel. 🤨🧐
I get none of my locals on my steaming service because no agreement has been made with any of the various ownerships to carry them.
How they can be allowed to charge someone to transmit something that is available OTA freely is beyond me.

We originally went with Sling and subscribed to CBS All Access, along with the Prime and Netflix we already had. It was . . . okay. CBS All access was VERY glitchy. Lots of freezing and refusing to finish a program. We’ve switched to PlayStation Vue and get all our local stations streaming. Still not perfect, but much better than Sling and my non-HD via internet provider that I had before.

Seemed like at the top and bottom of the hour it would buffer and took a while to get back up. Hulu Live is much better in that respect.
