I have horribly dry heels...well actually just my right one. It looks great for about a week after a pedicure and then nose dives.
The pedicurist told me to use a foot file in the shower daily.
What type of foot file do you have/reccomend?
TIA

I use this one with this. (I obviously don't use it every day!)

I got the gel they use to file calluses with from my local nail shop. I can’t paint my toes to save my life but I can keep my feet in nice shape between pedicures. I paid $18? Canadian for the gel. I used it last night with my Body Shop file and my soles feel great! I also got the calf and shin lilac massage oil and while it stinks like lilac it works really well, too.

I use Flexitol Heel Balm. It was recommended by several peas on a foot thread, several years ago.
In the shower, I use a sanding block that I get from Sally Beauty. It's the one that solid darker purple.

I’ve had good results with Sol de Janeiro’s Samba Foot Fetish. I use the file after showering, not in the shower. I like it better than anything else I’ve everr used, even the battery operated ones. And, the foot cream is great-smells really nice & is non greasy.

I use a file similar to the one Busy linked. Works amazing, once you get over the fear of using it lol. I love to be barefoot, so my heals callus over easy. So does my right big toe, so it also get some filing.

I don’t like the cheese grater style metal foot files. I use one that’s more like sandpaper - The Swedish Clover Original Red foot file.

I love the Ped Egg. Nothing saves my heels more in the summer than this thing. It's best used dry.

I use both the Pad Egg and the Amopei. They are both good for lots of rough skin.

I've tried all of the above (and several others that haven't been mentioned) except the Sol de Janeiro. They all work ok, but not miraculous. The least effective for me was the Flexitol Consistency is important, so whichever one you will use most often will probably be the most effective. Right now I have a foot block that I keep in the shower. I got it at the dollar store.

I have tried everything to keep my feet soft. Everything! What works best?
1. Always wear shoes of some sort so you do not walk barefoot. 2. Apply lotion after a shower and every night before bed. Sometimes I have to use Aquafor (SP?); sometimes regular hand lotion will do. 3. If my feet get a rough spot I use a black nail file and smooth it down when the foot is dry.
I stopped allowing the nail tech to use the "cheese grater" tool on my foot. It was making the situation worse.

The active ingredient in flexitol was recommended by my dermatologist for dry foot skin. That's urea. You can get it in various applications. I buy a lotion with it off Amazon, but there are all kinds of options. It's a magic potion when used regularly. I do not use the 'cheese grater' file -- much too harsh. I do have any number of other files that I use frequently. I keep two in the shower and I have a basket with others under the end table next to my chair in the family room. It's not really about what tool you use, but the trick is to be regular in your use of whatever you are doing. Ideally, you are doing preventative work this way. You may have to step your game up if you've let your callouses and hard, dried skin get out of control. But you *can* get it rehabbed and then the "secret" is to CONTINUE your efforts to prevent any occurrence of callouses.
